6. Disinformation vs. Misinformation
The very real impacts of disinformation have been felt across the country and, for many of us, engender great concern about the information circulating among our communities, families, and loved ones. In this paper, we will explore the phenomenon of disinformation as a malignant tool of power. Students from the USFVotes community-engaged learning class, Reclaiming Our vote, contribute their own research that examines the political role of disinformation historically and its current role in American politics, how social media has intensified the phenomenon and damage done by disinformation, and how the law has begun to address the issue.
