#3 - The End of a Chapter w Garrett Kocis

The price of getting what you want is getting what you once wanted. Dreams change. And that's a good thing. If we had all stuck with our first dream, the world would be overrun with cowboys and princesses. But still, it's tough to reach the culmination of years of hard work and be faced with the reality that the pursuit of a dream is over. Our aspirations shape our identity. And when it comes time to let a dream go, it can feel like the world is crumbling around us. Unfortunately, one of our best friends is currently going through this painful process. In this episode, Ian and Erik sit down with our longtime friend Garrett Kocis to talk about ending his pursuit of baseball, the challenges of reinventing himself, and some nostalgic childhood antics. And remember if you don't love what you're doing, make a change. Do something you love today. Make someone else smile today. Build mental momentum. This episode features music by our very talented friend Charlie Goracke.

#2 - Tools for dark times

How do you escape the ruts in life? It’s becoming harder and harder to find young people that haven’t been affected by depression or anxiety. Studies have shown that the average kid today experiences more anxiety than the average psychiatric patient in the 1950s. And rates of depression are skyrocketing, particularly among Gen Z. With such a broad undercurrent of poor mental health, how do you move forward, challenge yourself, and grow? In this episode, we discuss some of our personal experiences with depression and anxiety and the tools that have helped us to stave off the dark times. Unfortunately, there is no panacea for these conditions, but a great first step is understanding that you’re not alone. And remember, if you don’t love what you’re doing, change it. Do something you love today. Make someone else smile today. Build mental momentum. This episode features music by our very talented friend Charlie Goracke.

#1 - The Thinker vs The Doer

Welcome to Mental Momentum! We’re your hosts, Ian Freeman, Erik Fahner, and Kent Fletcher. We believe mindset and inertia are keys to unlocking the best things in life. You know, purpose, meaning, connection, all that good stuff. Over the last decade, the three of us have taken different life paths, but we’ve always found ways to stay connected. This podcast is a fresh tool for doing just that. We’ve been lucky to learn from some incredible strangers, mentors, and friends. And now, we want to reflect on those experiences in a public space. This week, in episode 1, we’re digging into the cycles of overthinking that prevent us from taking action. It’s easy to talk yourself out of taking risks, but–the reality is–nothing gets accomplished if it stays inside your head. Take agency over your life. Be a doer. We’re super excited to bring you this show. Subscribe wherever you’re seeing this episode. New episodes drop weekly! And remember, if you don’t love what you’re doing, make a change. Do something you love today. Make someone else smile today. Build mental momentum.
