    Insights from an MEP: MEP Niklas Nienaß

    Join us on this special episode where we gather exclusive insights from MEP Niklas Nienaß about his work in the European Parliament. Having been elected into the European Parliament at the age of 27, MEP Nienaß is one of the youngest MEPs of the current 9th parliamentary term. He is active in various committees and intergroups related to regional development, culture and education and climate change. He is also one of the rapporteurs from the associated committees of the Net Zero Industry Act Regulation which is one of the two topics of MEUS 2023.

During his time as an MEP, MEP Wölken has been involved in various committees and activities related to economic and monetary affairs, as well as legal affairs. He is also the rapporteur of the Anti-SLAPPs Directive which is one of the two topics of MEUS 2023.

    Lobbying involves various individuals, organizations, and interest groups seeking to influence the decision-making process of EU institutions. It is a common practice and an important aspect of democratic governance, as it allows stakeholders to voice their concerns and provide input to policy-makers. Join our special guest Giorgio Corbetta, a lobbyist who has been working for over a decade in EU politics to gain an insight on interest representation and lobbying in the EU.

    The Role of Interpreters at MEUS

    The EU is a multilingual institution with 24 official languages, and interpretation plays a crucial role in enabling communication and understanding among its member states. Paying homage to the linguistic diversity of the EU is why MEUS offers interpretation in over 7 languages as part of the simulation experience. Dive into the world of Interpretation with our lovely guest Petra Badalec, an EU accredited interpreter who also participated in MEUS 2022 as an interpreter.

    Photography at MEUS

    Conference photography and especially MEU photography is a specialized field of photography focused on documenting and capturing key proceedings, emotions, reactions, important speeches and more. Together with our host Mirna, get an insight into the world of Photography at MEUS with our special guest Diana Ter-Zakaryan, a passionate photographer who was the Photographers' Coordinator of MEUS 2022. Diana is also the Deputy Director General of MEUS this year.

    Our second episode touches on all things journalism. Journalism, regardless of whether one is aware of it or not, plays a central role in shaping nearly all aspects of society. Together with our host Elaena, we hear from our special guest, Annika Sinner, about her experience and intriguing aspects as a working journalist. Annika incidentally has also been an organiser and journalist coordinator in a number of MEU simulations in our network across Europe.

    In this episode, we talk about a very special topic: Chairing! A chair is the referee of the debate during MEUS - they take over the role of the president of each of the institutions we simulate.
