    A Widow's Lament

In 1942 Christina Cahill made the hazardous journey to England from the west coast of Ireland to train as a nurse. This is her story.

  2. 6

    From The Mountain Top

An old-fashioned rockin' protest song. Words & music by Mick O'Sullivan

  3. 5

    Bomber Boys

Written and performed by Mick O'Sullivan. My Uncle John is the one on the left in the picture. I don't know who his friend was. John was a gunner on a Whitley bomber that took part in the 2nd of the 1000 bomber raids. He was 19 and had just completed his training. The aircraft was shot down by a night fighter near the Dutch/German border. All the crew were lost.

  4. 4

    Martin

Inspired by a night on the town many years ago with my cousin in Kinvara, Co. Galway, though I hasten to add that the Martin in the song is entirely fictitious. My aim was to make a recording that sounded like a folk session with my old friends, to whom this is dedicated.

    You Wrote The Stories

Written & recorded by Mick O'Sullivan. I bought a banjo, learnt a few chords, then this song seemed to arrive out of the ether. Not something that happens too often these days.

  6. 2

    The Train To Castleisland

Written & recorded by Mick O'Sullivan. Inspired by my search for the grave of my great grandfather. According to his obituary his remains 'left by the 10.25 train for Castleisland'. With the kind help of some local people I did eventually find him.

  7. 1

    Waterloo - 1974 Band Version

Recorded at PSL 4 track studio in Wandsworth in the summer of 1974. Had a bit more hair in those days! The band was called 'Dark Alley' (I think!). Ian Hunter was on bass & backing vocals, Mike Davies on guitar & backing vocals, Mike Townsend on drums & bongos (otherwise known as Jim - 3 Michaels in a band was a bit much to cope with!).
