Milestone Movies

I'm marking my own Big 5-0 by celebrating the best movies of the last 50 years!

  1. 46

    Episode 45: 2019: AVENGERS ENDGAME

Send us Fan MailYou must have known this one was coming! The culmination of 22 amazing game-changing movies came together to make not just the ultimate comic-book movie, but simply one of the greatest stories ever made!I could do this all day!

  2. 45

Episode 44; 2018: TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES

Send us Fan MailAt a time when the cinemas were choc-a-block with comic book superheroes, one film stood head and shoulders above the rest as the smartest, funniest and coolest of them all- and it was based on a kids cartoon!Join me and my special guests (yep, they're back!) to discuss this and everything else from 2018!

  3. 44

    Episode 43; 2017: VARIOUS

Send us Fan MailYep, another year when i can't quite decide which is my favourite film of the year (although, i do actually get there in the end!), but there are some absolute cracking flicks this year to discuss! As mentioned on the episodes, i'm planning on doing a wrap-up Q&A episode as we get near to the final instalments (*sob*), so please feel free to send me any questions in advance! Thanks for listening!

  4. 43

Episode 42; 2016: EDDIE THE EAGLE

Send us Fan MailAnother life-affirming, hugely positive slice of film fun again this week, with Dexter Fletcher's 'Eddie The Eagle', which documents the true-life rags to (almost) riches story of Eddie Edwards who, through sheer force of will, managed to capture the hearts of the whole world in the 88 winter olympics.

  5. 42

    Episode 41; 2015: TOMORROWLAND!

Send us Fan MailHere's another one of those movies that I love, but suspect that many people have decided they don't like without actually watching! I find it an endlessly entertaining, and, importantly, really optimistic story with some jaw-dropping visuals and awesome performances; give it a go- i reckon you'll love it too!

  6. 41

Episode 40; 2014: THE LEGO MOVIE

Send us Fan MailI know, I know: ANOTHER kids film? But what a film- so much funnier and cleverer than anyone was expecting, Everything really is Awesome!

  7. 40

    Episode 39; 2013: VARIOUS!

Send us Fan MailA bit of a change-up today, as I meander around all over the place talking about the best movies of 2013, without actually settling on my favourite! Still, it was a bumper year, so wont you please join me once again..for Milestone Movies!?

  8. 39

    Episode 38; 2012: JOHN CARTER

Send us Fan MailA really under-appreciated Sci-Fi gem from 2012 this week, a fantastic adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' 'Barsoom' series of pulp fantasy classics, which is SO much better than it's reputation would have you believe! Check it out please! We are hurtling towards the Big 5-0 now, just a few more episodes to go, so keep it Milestone Movies! Thanks for listening!

  9. 38

Episode 37: 2011: RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

Send us Fan MailMonkey Magic this week on Milestone Movies, as i delve deep into the epic long-running Simian franchise that is P.O.T.A.!From the Ape-Mania and the rubber masks of the 60's and 70's, right up to today's flawless motion-capture masterpieces, it's a fascinating and thought-provoking series that seems set to run and run!

  10. 37

Episode 36; 2010: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON

Send us Fan MailNo, seriously- hear me out! If you've never experienced the DragonsVerse, you need to get on board! I was as pleasantly surprised as anyone that this movie (and all of it's many spinoffs!) turned out as well as it did, and there was no real competition when it came to choosing my movie of the year for 2010!

  11. 36

    Episode 35; 2009: DISTRICT 9

Send us Fan MailA brilliant slice of sci-fi that came out of nowhere (well, actually from South Africa)  to blow us all away, Neill Blomkamp's "District 9" is my movie of the year for 2009. An oddly affecting 'alien invasion' movie like nothing before or since, it was a decent-sized hit at the time, but deserves to have been enormous!

  12. 35

    Episode 34; 2008: IRON MAN (& the M.C.U.)

Send us Fan Mail2008- the year that everything changes! Jon Favreau casts Robert Downey Jr in the role he was born to play, gives us a tiny glimpse of Samuel L Jackson and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is born! Cinema and TV will never be the same again...

  13. 34

    Episode 33; 2007: HOT FUZZ

Send us Fan Mail"The Greater Good..." The team behind Shaun Of The Dead strike Fried Gold once again with their awesome take on all-action cop thrillers... except it's in a sleepy English village!Properly laugh-out-loud comedy alongside blistering action sequences, all delivered by the very finest of British character actors, Hot Fuzz is the second part of the 'Cornetto Trilogy', and it's amazing!Join the discussion online, and thanks for all your support for the show!

  14. 33

    Episode 32; 2006: CLERKS II

Send us Fan Mail"With No Power, Comes No Responsibility!" Kevin Smith returns once again to the 'Askewniverse' that he accidentally created with his low budget debut in 1994 with an absolute corker of a sequel; 2006's 'Clerks II'. Building on everything he'd done up to this point in his movies, Smith elevates the story of a bunch of slackers and dealers in an unexpectedly moving new direction, that for me is the high point of the Jay & Silent Bob movies.

  15. 32

    Episode 31; 2005: SERENITY

Send us Fan MailYou can't stop the signal!Gather round, Browncoats, as i delve into Joss Whedon's superb space opera SERENITY, as well as it's parent TV series, the amazing FIREFLY!Thanks for listening, please do like and subscribe etc!

Episode 30; 2004: SHAUN OF THE DEAD

Send us Fan MailYou've got red on you! For my money, the greatest British comedy film of all time, Shaun Of The Dead is an absolute gem! Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are amazing in Edgar Wright's movie debut, and the legacy of what they created here is still being seen to this day.Join me for this week's episode of Milestone Movies!

  17. 30

    Episode 29; 2003: THE COOLER

Send us Fan MailPerhaps a less well-known treat for us this week, as I take a look back at Wayne Kramer's Vegas-set 'The Cooler', which despite a trinity of fantastic character performances and a mesmerising story, was never really rewarded the success it deserved. If you've never seen it, check it out, and then listen to this week's Milestone Movies Podcast!

  18. 29

    Episode 28; 2002: SPIDERMAN

Send us Fan MailWith great power comes great responsibility. We're not yet quite at the dawn of the MCU, but we are thick in the beginnings of the Comic book movie boom, with Sam Raimi's pitch-perfect take on everybody's favourite web-slinger, which paved the way for a series which is still going from strength to strength today!

  19. 28

Episode 27; 2001: LORD OF THE RINGS

Send us Fan MailYou. Shall. Not. PASS!! Well, at least not until you've listened to this week's podcast anyway! We've reached 2001, which was the year that "The Fellowship of the Ring" launched us all into Peter Jackson's fully realised vision of Tolkein's world, so join me as I dive deep into Middle Earth!Wishing you all a very Happy New Year, looking forward to another great year of movies ahead...

  20. 27

  22. 25

    Episode 24; 1998: BASEketball

Send us Fan MailPossibly my favourite comedy movie of all time, tonight I'm taking you back to 1998's "BASEketball", in which the director of Naked Gun and the stars of South Park combine for a hilarious take on the tropes of Sports movies and create comedy gold!

  23. 24

Episode 23: 1997: GROSSE POINTE BLANK

Send us Fan MailAnother cracking film this week, as we look at the fantastic "hitman goes back to his old hometown to attend his High School reunion and face the girl he left behind" movie Grosse Pointe Blank. This unlikely premise was the recipe for an absolutely beautiful story, so well made and perfectly pitched! Check it out!
