E280: You Are Enough: Book your ADHD Mom Retreat Ticket
Have you ever made a mistake and immediately spiraled into shame? Like, "What is wrong with me!?!" Because, same. Except… this time was different. In this episode, I'm sharing a very real (and slightly painful) story about accidentally taking my stimulant medication before bed. Yup, that was rough. But instead of going down the usual shame and guilt spiral, something surprising happened – I gave myself grace. And that moment? It's exactly why this year's retreat theme is "You Are Enough." We're talking about what it looks like to stop beating yourself up, to drop the constant pressure to be perfect, and to finally feel at home in who you are – mistakes and all. I'm also giving you all the details for the upcoming 5th annual Successful As a Mother Retreat on October 16-18, 2026: who it's for, what we'll do, and why this weekend might be exactly what you've been craving. If you're tired of carrying the mental load, tired of feeling like you never quite "get it right," and just want a space where you can breathe… this is your invitation. You don't have to earn rest. E279: Avoid ADHD Burnout by Slowing Down to Speed Up: 7th Anniversary
Have you ever pushed so hard to finish something… only to realize you're not actually at the finish line? In this episode, I'm catching you up on life lately, from wrapping up my book to what the last several months have really looked like behind the scenes. Writing over 100,000 words, navigating intense editing, and learning how my brain works best stretched me in ways I didn't expect. And honestly, it was both exciting and exhausting. We're talking about what happens after a big push, that weird in-between space where you thought you'd feel "done," but instead you feel a little lost. I'm sharing what I learned about perfectionism, pacing, and why celebrating your progress matters way more than we think. I also open up about slowing down this summer, rethinking what actually matters in this season, and how I'm trying to make life feel easier instead of doing more. Plus, a few personal updates, including a surprising health discovery and what's coming next with the book. If you've been running on empty or wondering what comes after the sprint, this one will feel like a deep exhale. E278: How ADHD Women Are Vulnerable to Toxic Partners
Ever wonder why so many women with ADHD end up in relationships that drain them? You're not alone -- and it's not a coincidence. After hosting another magical ADHD moms' retreat, I couldn't shake the conversations we had around partners -- some amazing, others... deeply painful. In this episode, I'm sharing the patterns I've seen over and over: women with ADHD stuck in emotionally abusive relationships, often with narcissistic partners. And honestly, it makes me furious. We're digging into why this happens, how low self-esteem and a lifetime of gaslighting make us vulnerable, and how abusers prey on our empathy and longing for stability. I'm not a narcissism expert (yet), but I've got a stack of library books and a brain buzzing with questions. If you've ever doubted your gut or felt like your relationship was slowly chipping away at your sense of self, this one's for you. Plus, I give a life and book update, talk about the whirlwind of writing with ADHD, and how I'm navigating deadlines, stomach flu, identity theft, and everything in between. E277: Build Your Confidence by Failing Faster
Do you ever second guess every decision until you freeze? Same here for the first few years I ran my business. In this episode, I answer Jacki Hayes' question from her podcast, Here's What I've Learned: How have you evolved as a business owner over the years? The funny thing is, my response wasn't really a "business" answer. My hard won wisdom fits most situations when ADHD folks are trying something new. Or just trying to live. Chasing a goal, no matter the size or complexity, requires a lot of the same foundational skills. I bet you'll find at least one nugget helpful, no matter if you're starting a new business, going back to school, or organizing your hall closet. Today I'm sharing how I build my confidence when imposter syndrome is high; how I collect real data to make better and faster decisions, and how I use simplicity to make it doable, especially by matching my energy levels. When I protect capacity and use my energy management skills, I show up better for both my family and my work. If you want practical support for your brain, grab my free guide on How to Manage ADHD Beyond Medication at patriciasung.com/beyond-meds. And if you want to hear how other owners answered Jacki's question, check out her podcast, Here's What I've Learned. You do not need "The Perfect Plan" to begin. E276: The Real Reason You're Always Running Late
Are you running late before you even start getting ready? That's time blindness at work, mama. And wow, does it make everyday life harder! In this episode, I'm sharing the real talk from conversations with two different coaching clients this week about how ADHD brains process time—and why "it's time to go" means something totally different for us than it does for people who are naturally on time. Walking out the door isn't one task; it's a whole project. From shoes and water bottles to wrangling kids and finding the missing lunchbox, no wonder we're always scrambling. Here's the shift: it's not about fixing yourself or forcing your brain to work like everyone else's. It's about figuring out how your ADHD brain actually works and using that knowledge as the key to the puzzle. Once you see the pattern, you can set up systems that work with your brain, not against it. I'll walk you through how to break down "leaving the house" into actual steps, estimate how long it really takes, and give yourself the buffer time you need. This isn't about rushing or becoming a morning person – it's about giving yourself space to breathe and creating a rhythm that makes sense for you. Want a simple way to stop living in reactive "emergency mode"? Download my free Secrets for Overcoming Time Blindness at patriciasung.com/monthahead. In just 15 minutes, you can make major headway on avoiding crises, and feel like you've got your life together. You're carrying a lot, and you're doing better than you think. Let's make space for mornings that feel calmer and less like a fire drill. E274: How to Support Your ADHD Child: Mothers Together Q&A with Guest Host Megan Champion - Best Of Friends Series
Have you ever wondered if you're doing enough to support your ADHD child? Or maybe you've questioned if what you're trying is even working. You're not the only one. When I saw that last year's most downloaded episode was about supporting your ADHD child, I knew I wanted to share this conversation from 2022 with you! In this episode, I'm sharing a Q&A session from when I was a guest expert in the Mothers Together community, for parents of neurodivergent children. The moms in Megan's community share vulnerable and raw struggles that I know you'll relate to. We dive into some of the most common struggles moms face when raising ADHD kids: school challenges, emotional regulation, should your child try medication (especially when you're worried about them not gaining weight), and that exhausting cycle of wondering, "Am I messing this up?" You'll hear encouragement, practical strategies, and lots of validation from a real conversation with moms who get it. Because sometimes the most powerful thing isn't a new parenting hack – it's gaining a new perspective or realizing you're not alone and you don't have to figure it all out by yourself. E273: Managing Your Daily Energy Levels as a Mom with ADHD with Guest Host JoAnn Crohn - Best Of Friends Series
Do you feel like you're already running on fumes – and it's barely breakfast time? You're not alone. In this conversation from the Happy Mom Summit, I talk with JoAnn Crohn of the No Guilt Mom Podcast about what really drains our energy as ADHD moms – and how to recharge in realistic, doable ways. Spoiler alert: it's not about naps and bubble baths (unless you love those). It's about understanding your own patterns, recognizing the difference between physical, mental, and emotional energy, and creating a rhythm that actually works for your brain. We also dig into how ADHD makes energy management trickier, why asking for help feels so hard (but matters so much), and how to tell the difference between when you need to push through… and when you need to rest. Plus, I share more about my Energy Recharge Workshop, and why it's one of my favorite ways to help you find your spark again. This episode is your permission slip to stop chasing those unicorn days, and start making peace with what realistically works for you. You are not a robot. Let's give ourselves some grace. E272: You're Not Lazy: Why You Don't Finish Simple Tasks
You start the day with good intentions. "This afternoon, I'm going to drop off this return real quick." But then you can't find the box. Or the tape. And now your printer is out of ink. Suddenly, the whole day's gone, and the box is still sitting by the door. Sound familiar? In this episode—recorded from my car in full chauffeur-mom mode—I'm breaking down why your ADHD brain struggles to finish simple tasks. Spoiler: it's not because you're lazy. It's because what looks like one small task is actually a full project with multiple steps... and no one told us that. I'll walk you through the three phases of any project (even the "easy" ones): deciding, preparing, and doing. And more importantly, how recognizing those steps can save your time, your energy, and your self-esteem. If you've ever beat yourself up over why that return never made it to the post office, this one's for you. You're not lazy. Your brain just needs a different approach. E270: You're Not Missing Out When You Say No
Ever feel like if you say no to a good opportunity, you'll regret it forever? Like the next big thing is right around the corner... and you'll miss it if you stop moving? I've been there. Saying no is hard, especially when your ADHD brain loves chasing shiny new ideas. In this episode, I'm sharing a clip from my friend Jacki Hayes' podcast where I answered, "What's the biggest business lesson you've learned lately?" And spoiler alert: it wasn't about business strategy. It was about letting go—of plans, of good ideas, of the fear that saying no means missing out. You'll hear why I closed something I loved, how I made peace with doing less, and what happens when you create space for what truly matters. And if your brain, like mine, struggles with feeling like every season is forever... this one's for you. Come take a deep breath with me. E268: This Season Is Hard, But Your Tears Aren't Wasted
Ten weeks. Fifty-five thousand words to go. One big, messy dream. I'm officially writing a book, and I'm on a serious countdown. But let's be real, life isn't made up of word counts and deadlines. This season is stretching me in ways I didn't expect, and I'm reminded (again) how hard it is for me to ask for help. So I'm uncomfortably practicing that skill. In this episode, I'm sharing the behind-the-scenes reality of what it looks like to chase a giant goal as a mom with ADHD. From reworking my timeline and outsourcing laundry to crying on the front curb, this story gets personal. You'll hear how a season of grief, a loving husband, and a research fund created ripple effects that showed up in the most unexpected way over 20 years later. We often don't get to see how it all comes together, but this week I got a glimmer of hope and encouragement. If you've ever questioned whether your hard season means anything… this one's for you. You don't need a book deal to matter. Your efforts, your tears, your small wins, they all count. Need some hope today? Come sit with me in the mess. Let's find the meaning together. E267: Constantly Feel Like You're Behind? 4 Reasons Why
What "should" you have done already? Finish your degree? Pass your driver's license test? Make that doctor's appt? Left the house for school pickup? If you're constantly thinking "I'm behind!", this episode is for you. Often it's literal, as in, "I'm 20 minutes late to my appointment!" But it's also in the big things, like you "should" have more kids by now or gotten that promotion. You're not alone! Feeling behind has come up in several discussions recently both in Group Coaching, and in writing my book. What are the patterns showing up in this pervasive problem among women with ADHD? Here's how to move forward both logistically and mentally. ***Note: This episode originally aired in April of 2024. E266: No Perfect Plan: Letting Good Enough Be Good Enough
But I want to do everything... well. Ever find yourself trying so hard to get it just right… only to realize that you're missing the whole point?!? This week, I'm sharing some very real behind-the-scenes of my life right now: juggling the end-of-school chaos, trying to write a book I've dreamed about for years, and realizing (once again) that perfectionism is still sneaking into the driver's seat. In this vulnerable episode, I unpack the mental load of ADHD motherhood when the "busy" becomes relentless. I talk about asking for help (even when it feels bougie), redefining what "good enough" looks like, and letting go of the fantasy plan I had in my head. You'll hear about my new sourdough hobby adventures, the emotional labor of summer transitions, and how I'm learning to hold my goals a little more loosely. Plus, I share what I'm learning from my work with Dr. Sandra Kooij's team on rewording ADHD diagnostic tools for women to encompass a more realistic and relatable view, plus how that work is shaping the way I understand myself and my capacity. This isn't a "wrap it in a bow" kind of episode. It's messy, real, and honest. If you've been quietly wondering, "Why can't I do it all?", this episode is your reminder that you were never meant to. E265: How Do You Keep Up with Everything as a Mom with ADHD?
How do moms do ALL.THE.THINGS in a methodical, consistent manner? My client asked me this earlier this month. She wanted to see how someone else "does it all" in order to get a better grasp on what it looks like. Plus she asked for an example of a weekly schedule where somebody meal plans, cooks, takes care of their kids, and works part time. "Doing it all" is an overwhelming challenge that so many moms face. In this episode, I'm sharing a clip from our call where I explain how I do it all. Spoiler alert: I don't do it all at the same time. This episode is a deep dive into real, actionable strategies to build a flexible weekly schedule that fits your unique brain—and your real life, messiness, and all. Reminder: you are not a robot. You're also not parenting a bunch of predictable and programmable robots. Plus, ADHD is anything but predictable! Unless you're predicting chaos… Soooo, how do you deal with unpredictability in a job that requires a lot of consistency, such as parenting? You work WITH your brain. Instead of chasing an unrealistic ideal, I'm walking you through a realistic plan that is easily adjusted as your life (and your kids!) change. Lowering the chaos starts with identifying what is most important to you, taking care of yourself, and implementing your foundational schedule in baby steps. Peek behind the curtain as I share my own approach to balancing meal planning, part-time work, household chores, and kid schedules, emphasizing the power of routines, batching, and giving yourself grace when things don't go as planned. Tune in for: The honest truth on why consistency in motherhood is a myth (and why systems and batching are your new best friends) A step-by-step walkthrough of creating a foundational schedule that works for real humans (messy mornings and all!) Why "bare minimum" isn't lazy—it's brilliant Meal planning hacks that even "please-don't-make-me-cook" mamas can love Permission to do less, love yourself more, and actually enjoy motherhood—even when the doo-doo hits the wall (literally and figuratively) This episode is packed with practical tips for lowering decision fatigue, embracing imperfection, and giving yourself credit for how far you've come. Whether you're struggling with meal planning, juggling conflicting priorities, managing transitions, or just feeling stuck in the chaos, I've got your back with honest advice and a reminder: you already are a great mom. Pop in your earbuds, take a deep breath, and let's figure out together how to keep up with all the things—on your own terms. E263: Am I Too Much? Accepting & Loving Who You Are, Plus Your Retreat Invitation
Ever feel like you're "just too much"—too scattered, too loud, too mistake-prone, too ditzy, just…too all over the place? Maybe you dropped your phone in the ocean and screamed "noooo" until you cried? (Raising my hand slowly…) If so, you're in the right place. This last couple of weeks has been tough – a sinus infection, perimenopause brain fog, sunburned kids, lost phones, scraped bumpers, too-much-talking children, and waves of "am I too much for everyone?" If you're a mama with ADHD barely keeping your head above the laundry—err, water—this one's for you. Here's what we're discussing today: Why "careless mistake" is a phrase I wish would disappear (like my phone in the waves) The inside scoop on what "I'm too much" really means—and how it's all relative (spoiler: it's not you, it's the situation and who you're with) My tried-and-true tricks for loving yourself through chaos, mistakes, and feeling like a walking, talking, sticky note of forgetfulness How to communicate with your family when your ADHD turns up to level eleven—and what a little vulnerability can do for your relationships What it looks like when you stop trying to shove yourself into everyone else's "normal" and start being unapologetically YOU (even if "you" occasionally forgets the sunscreen) A sneak peek at the amazing ADHD Mama Retreat—your chance for a whole weekend of self-care, nature, and connecting with mamas who actually get it (and won't judge you for that time you forgot your own age) This isn't the land of Pinterest-perfect life. It's the real, messy, laugh-so-you-don't-cry journey of being a mom with ADHD who is embracing their quirks—and finally letting go of the "I should just try harder" myth. I'm hoping you feel seen, heard, and maybe even ready to forgive yourself for that thing you messed up last week (you know the one). Ready to hug your "too much" self and join a community of mamas who do the same? Hit play. And join us in October for the 4th annual ADHD Moms Retreat. E262: How to Ask for Help When You Have ADHD
How can you ask for help? When you have ADHD, you may not ask for help. Maybe you feel like you have to figure it out on your own. You may not want others to know you're struggling or working this hard to keep up. Or maybe you don't want to look weak or incompetent. But humans aren't meant to function entirely solo. Mamas Nicole & Rebecca both submitted the question of how to ask for help. Here's a clip from Successful Mama Meetups during our month themed "Help Me Help You (How to ask for help from your non-neurodivergent family, friends, and coworkers)" because the mamas requested this topic. You're not alone in this. I'm sharing supportive strategies on how to share about your ADHD at a level that makes you feel comfortable. Then how to ask for help, even when you aren't exactly sure what you need or how to explain it. Want to suggest a topic for a future podcast episode? What if everyone hates me? What if no one reads my book? No one told me that writing a book came with an existential crisis. E260: Are You Lazy and Procrastinating or Prioritizing for Later?
HOT TAKE: I don't believe people with ADHD are lazy. There is a reason that they don't want to or can't do the thing, and when you untangle that obstacle, voila! It's easier to get things done. How do you know the difference between procrastinating and prioritizing for later? There are some things in life we can't avoid, so how do you deal with them? How do you know when it truly is not the time for certain tasks and feel okay setting them aside without worrying if you'll never remember them again? E241: Tend & Befriend: ADHD Support Group as Self-Care for Moms
When you go to a party, no matter the occasion or fanciness level, people often gravitate towards the kitchen. They circle up near the host at the grill or around the kitchen island, chatting while leaning against the counter and snacking on crackers. Even when they could be sitting in a comfy chair, people gravitate towards the heartbeat of the party. The kitchen. This is how I want my community to feel… casually hanging around the kitchen counter, with snacks and drinks. Come and go as you please. Showing up as yourself, in whatever you're wearing that day. No pressure. I want you to feel like someone is taking care of you. Guiding you. Feeding you snacks and cleaning them up. Giving you a big hug when you walk in and out the door. (Because honestly, I'm pretty peeved you're not getting the care you deserve.) Having YOUR people in your corner is more than a nicety. It gives you sturdiness and stability. It's self-care for tired moms. You're invited to hangout around my kitchen island, figuratively speaking. Join us in creating a space where you can be you, laugh, talk, and even let out a mom sigh or two, because we've all been there. Plus, you'll get to enjoy activities like body doubling and small group discussions where you can find the peas for your pod. You don't have to juggle everything, including the mental load, on your own. It's been so good for the moms (and me, too!) and I want you to come too! E240: Raising Out-of-the-box ADHD Children Well with Tracy Otsuka
There is a 50-75% chance that your child will have ADHD when you, their parent, have ADHD. That means everything multiplies exponentially - both the struggles and the wins! Parenting is already a tough job, and ADHD adds extra flavor, spunk, and responsibility onto both our and our kids' plates. How can we raise our ADHD children well? Meet Tracy Otsuka, author & host of the ADHD for Smart Ass Women podcast & book. Tracy Otsuka, JD, is a certified ADHD coach and the host of the ADHD for Smart Ass Women podcast. Over the past decade, she has empowered thousands of clients (from doctors and therapists to C-suite executives and entrepreneurs) to see their neurodivergence as a strength–not a weakness. Tracy leverages her analytical skills from being a lead counsel at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to identify the right questions to ask her clients so they can boost their productivity, improve their finances, save failing relationships and live happier lives. Tracy's expertise and experience as an adult living with ADHD are regularly sought out by top tier media including Inc, Forbes, ADDitude magazine, and The Goal Digger Podcast. When she's not sharing her thought leadership around ADHD on other platforms, she hosts her own podcast which ranks #1 in its category and has over 5 million downloads across 160 countries. She also moderates a Facebook group with nearly 100,000 members. A married mother of two, Tracy lives in Sonoma County outside of San Francisco. We're often told that people who have degrees or do well in school couldn't possibly have ADHD. Giant Eye Roll! While Tracy excelled in school, including a law degree, but it wasn't until she was late-diagnosed with ADHD that she knew it was because she worked harder than everyone else and implemented some serious organization and structure. Today we're discussing how both Tracy and her son Marcus struggled with undiagnosed ADHD and dyslexia in school, affecting their grades and confidence. Tracy focused on supporting Marcus' interests and passions rather than grades, which helped him get into NYU and find his path to success. Tracy also shares her hard-earned wisdom around communication, understanding strengths and weaknesses, and not passing on generational trauma to her children as part of how her family is able to manage 3 of 4 members having ADHD. With both her son and daughter reaching young adulthood, Tracy is on the other side of motherhood as an empty nester and is shining a light on what truly matters as you raise your ADHD kids well. E236: Celebrating the Journey to 1,000,000 Downloads! Live Episode
Whoo-hoo! Today we're celebrating! This summer, we hit 1,000,000 downloads on the podcast!!! To celebrate, I hosted a live Q&A podcast episode last month and here it is… You all asked some amazing questions! You shared your hearts and experiences. It was a beautiful time together. You had me reflecting on my podcasting journey and the last 5 years, from overcoming self-doubt to reaching a million downloads, and the importance of staying true to myself and my values. We talked about some of the challenges of motherhood with ADHD and several moms jumped in and encouraged each other, reminding you to embrace your values, individuality, and creative parenting. Throughout the episode, you all bring up your own experiences, from struggles with remembering goals due to ADHD, to the challenges of meeting a child's needs and the pressure to do it all, perfectly. This conversation focuses on finding balance, trusting yourself, and the inevitable learning process of parenting. Honestly, it felt like a big friendship hug. I really appreciate you so, so much.
