Music is no stranger. Knowing the process of historical formation of the northern popular music of accordion and bajo sexto is important for getting closer to the hegemonic culture of contemporary Mexico. It is quite interesting that music just the element through which "the North" has expanded its cultural borders as far away as Holland. North and culture alive and moving, requires historical studies that go beyond the economic. Monterrey is the most emblematic case because thanks to the work of researchers like Mario Cerutti has deepened economic aspects, however themes and approaches to social and cultural nature have not been addressed on equal terms by historians.

    The Heavy Group is a group of regional Mexican music, also known as conjunto or Norteño (having emerged in northern Mexico). It is considered one of the groups that launched a new generation of this kind of music, giving it a freshness that has had enough acceptance in Mexico and the United States and opening doors to new groups of the same movement. The success of them deserved the "slogan" From: "The Group That is worth its weight".

    Varios Grupos Norteños - Popurri

    Norteño (Spanish pronunciation: [nor?te?o], northern), also música norteña, is a genre of Mexican music related to polka and corridos. The accordion and the bajo sexto are norteño's most characteristic instruments. The genre is popular in both Mexico and the United States, especially among the Mexican and Mexican-American community, and it has become popular in many Latin American countries as far as Chile and Colombia. Though originating from rural areas, norteño is popular in urban as well as rural areas. Some popular norteño artists include Ramón Ayala, Intocable, Los Cadetes de Linares, Los Alegres de Terán, Los Tigres del Norte, Los Huracanes del Norte, Los Rieleros del Norte, and Los Tucanes de Tijuana. Local radio stations have continued to be a major influence in popularizing norteño in the Mexican-American community.

    Rubén Vela - Cumbia de Roberto Ruiz

    HARLINGEN — Conjunto legend Ruben Vela’s career stretched from his boyhood in dusty South Texas dance halls to the days of the powermix and the music video. The accordion mastery that kept people dancing for more than half a century has been forever silenced. Vela, 72, died Tuesday evening at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Known as the "King of the Dance Hall Sound," Vela started recording in the 1950s but scored his biggest success at an age when most people start considering retirement. In the late 1990s, Vela’s hits "El Coco Rayado Powermix" and "La Papaya" brought the 60-year-old international fame and a whole new generation of fans.
