Our Little Talks Podcast

On this episode, we discuss the Oscars. (One of us watched all 10 movies, the other watched none of them) We then steer into a general discussion of movie and pop culture related topics and briefly discuss the joy of reading books when it is not done just to share on the internet.

After a year hiatus, we return for our 35th episode. We discuss where we have been, New Year's Eve, the Stranger Things finale, getting rid of streaming music, and our reading plans for 2026. Join us for our fun filled return to podcasting!

In this thrilling episode we talk about our New Year's Day Antique store adventure and what books we are reading to start off 2025. Next we discuss the 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street. Then we talk about signing up for "The Criterion Channel" and a short discussion on movies. Next Dad talks about how he has never been very good at video games. In the final half hour we go on long hodge-podge discussion on various topics.

In this episode we briefly touch on a recent bout with COVID, the film Gladiator 2, and a short discussion about the 50th Anniversary of the Rankin & Bass special 'Twas the Night Before Christmas

On our fifth annual Thanksgiving Eve episode we stumble through what may be our worst episode ever. We begin with a rant about modern car technology then throw our cat out of the podcast studio. We next move into a discussion about The Outsiders, weird theatre people, and how we are not interested in the failed attempt to make "Glicked a thing. Then we talk about books and Fred Astaire movies and run through a melange of pointless topics

After an 8 month absence we are back to talk about various topics including why we have been gone so long, music from 1984, holiday movie obligations, books we've read this year, and a hodge podge of other topics.

In our 30th episode we give our thoughts on Dune, Part Two, the prohibitive cost of eating at restaurants, and Top 40 music from 1984.

Our year long tribute to the year 1984 continues as we discuss the classic movie The Karate Kid. 

Happy New Year! In our first episode of 2024 we announce our plans to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the year 1984 by dedicating each episode this season to some aspect of the year 1984. Then we "kick" things off right away by discussing the movie Footloose

In this episode we discuss the mythological "War on Christmas" and we talk about the difference between wanting to watch movies vs. feeling obligated to. Next we discuss the films White Christmas, A Muppet Christmas Carol, Jingle All the Way, and The Karate Kid, Part II. We finish things off by discussing the idea of having favorite foods and whether it is necessary to always have to decide which thing is "the best."

We celebrate our third anniversary of podcasting with our Fourth Annual Thanksgiving Eve episode...We talk about the stress of trying to keep up with Christmas movies, we discuss reading challenges, and reading War and Peace. Then we dive into a potpourri of topics including slang, Shakespeare, common place books, and whatever else floats into our mids

In our landmark 25th episode we ignore our moratorium on talking about Star Wars and find some nice things to say about each of the 11 Star Wars films! Sit back and relax as we each pick things we like about each movie beginning with The Phantom Menace and working chronologically up to The Rise of Skywalker.

This week we discuss our thoughts on the new Indiana Jones film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

In our longest episode ever, we discuss our latest trip to the greatest city in the world, New York City. We talk about our two days of exploring the city including visits to Governor's Island, Chinatown, Central Park West, and Grant's Tomb. We also give our thoughts on seeing the Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd starring Josh Groban and read one star customer reviews of some of the places we visited.

In our historic 22nd Episode we discuss a list of 10 things podcasters do that supposedly annoy their listeners, high school graduation, and we get highfalutin as Dad talks about reading Moby-Dick and other classic novels and we read a few poems. Next we talk about seeing Raiders of the Lost Ark at a local movie theater and how movie making has changed in the last 40 years. Then we wrap things up with Dad getting depressed, because he is sick of Star Wars finding its way into our conversations. 

Surprise! We are back! After a four-month hiatus we return with our longest episode ever! In this episode we discuss why we have not been recording We talk about our various illnesses, reading War and Peace, Roald Dahl and censorship, Prince Harry's audiobook, and the Beetlejuice musical. We also discuss efforts to reduce screen time and live in the real world. We finish the episode also covering other topics as they cross our minds.

It's our 20th episode and our third annual Thanksgiving Eve episode. In this episode we go off the cuff and cover numerous topics. We talk about Corinna's first trip to the voting polls during the mid-term elections, what fans of the TV show "Glee" should be called, and how awful the Saturday morning shows from Dad's childhood were. We then talk about humans' false belief in the nobility of wild animals, how there used to be only one notable tap dancer at a time, and the names that celebrity characters were given on "The Flintstones." We then wrap things up with a discussion of the movie The Bishop's Wife, everyone's belief that the decades they grew up in were the best, and a discussion on whether calling chicken "yardbirds" is a cultural or regional creation.

In this episode, we discuss Halloween and what we like and do not like about the holiday. We also talk about the 1931 version of Frankenstein and movie remakes. We wrap up the show with a talk about Cobra Kai season five and TV shows needing to be cancelled after their fifth season.

After a three month hiatus we return with a lot of random discussions, but specifically talk about the museum exhibit "The Art of the Disney Costume," Dad talks about cutting back his mobile phone use time, and tries to praise "Top Gun:Maverick" before blowing a gasket over the absence of USB ports on his computer. There is some discussion about "Lord of the Rings" and "Rings of Power" and a few concerts. Dad gives a short Bible study about the treatment of the poor, and then he praises the writing of Cormac McCarthy and reads a portion of "Blood Meridian"

In our long awaited 17th episode we discuss going to a lot of concerts this summer, we give a rundown of our Spring Break trip from March, we endure technical difficulties, and then we briefly discuss Disney's "Obi-Wan Kenobi" show.

On this episode we talk about a Greta Van Fleet concert we attended, talk briefly about the 2022 Oscar nominations and how Dad is the only person in the world to not hear the song "We Don't Talk About Bruno." Then we talk about how it's weird to think of your parents having girlfriends/boyfriends before you were born and the blessing of not having had social media in the 1970s and 80s. 

In our first episode of 2022, we discuss how hospitalizations and surgeries delayed our recording any episodes for two months, share our thoughts on Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, and lament having watched the dreadful Star Wars series "The Book of Boba Fett." 

In this episode, we talk about Dad's 50th birthday surprise party and being tired of watching the same Christmas specials and movies year after year. We also chat about people who make a point to let you know how much they hate Christmas music. Then we summarize and review Spiderman: No Way Home and things get dark when we talk about the futility mankind trying to reverse climate change.

It's the one year anniversary of Our Little Talks! On this episode we discuss our first year and recap Thanksgiving. Dad gets back on his high horse about not being a die hard sports fan and we talk about the Harry Connick Jr. as Daddy Warbucks.Then we give some thoughts on "Buy Nothing Day," talk about seeing the movie Dune and Dad reading the book. Then we talk about the Beatles documentary Get Back and then the rest of the show spills into random talk about ASMR and other weird tangents.

This episode opens with Dad discussing his 2012 appearance on the long defunct Disney themed podcast named The Hub Podcast. Next we talk about a Frank Oz interview where he and Dad have the same opinion of the modern incarnation of The Muppets. Then we discuss our visit to The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan to explore the "Jim Henson: Imagination Unlimited" exhibit. Then we finish the show with a discussion of the trailer for the new version of West Side Story and talk about the debate over hiring actors who more accurately represent the characters they portray.

In this episode, we talk about our new jobs, school mask policies, and Corinna's efforts to improve her driving skills. Next we talk about our return trip to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry on the same weekend as Lollapalooza. Then we mention some famous people from Michigan and daugther's new found admiration for Greta Van Fleet. Then we introduce a new segment, probably for the last time, where Dad reads "one star" restaurant reviews. Next Dad laments the times he's taken selfies, talk about The Epic of Gilgamesh and Jane Eyre, and explore the idea of Canadian money smelling like maple syrup. Finally, Dad talks about how boring Major League Baseball has gotten.

In this episode we fact check and revisit some conversations from our last episode. We also discuss the National Treasure show planned for Disney+ and Corinna talks about her first job as a corporate wage slave. Dad briefly mentions that he is interviewing for a new job as well and we discuss daugther's first week of driver's training. We then engage in a long melange of topics and discuss the strange, suspicious life of Frankenstein author Mary Shelley. Finally, we close out the show with dad wishing he could travel back in time and tell his dad to never take him to see Star Wars and discuss ideas for a couple of spin-off podcasts.

In our long awaited ninth episode, we discuss not realizing that The Oscars were on tonight and that we have never heard of any of the movies that are nominated. We then discuss the latest on our personal COVID vaccinations and everyone in our state giving up on mask mandates. Then we talk about our day trip to Chicago from a few weeks ago and how eating at local restaurants on trips is largely overrated. Then we make a few Oscar predictions without knowing anything about the movies and talk about how it is pointless to have arguments about who "the best" is at anything.

In this episode we celebrate the return of The Muppet Show and discuss a pair of episodes we watched together. We then discuss the "harmful content" disclaimer placed in front of several episodes which leads into a serious discussion about how to deal with racist and "problematic" content of art and entertainment in the past. We also dispute the idea that the Looney Tunes character Pepe Le Pew normalizes "rape culture." We finish things off with a few lighthearted discussions and tell a few jokes.

In our first episode of 2021 we talk about today's Super Bowl between Tampa Bay and Kansas City, dad talks about his first COVID-19 vaccine shot, we engage in some literary snobbery as we talk about books we've read so far this year and why older books are better than modern ones. We also talk about the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books. We then discuss Cobra Kai Season 3 and then dad goes on a rant about die hard sports fans.

In our final episode of 2020, we discuss being positive, staying hopeful, and working for the common good of our communities. We talk about a few Christmas movies, past New Years Eves, and how Dick Clark was brilliant at selling the New Year countdown. We also talk about our hopes for 2021 and look forward to Season 3 of Cobra Kai!    

In this episode, we discuss our thoughts on the first two seasons of The Mandalorian and the latest episode, “The Tragedy.” We talk about the unsurprising return of everyone’s favorite bounty hunter and why it doesn’t matter if you fit someone’s idea of what it means to be a true fan. We also rant about people who are paranoid about diversity. We wrap things up with a “deep” discussion of the unique religious perspective of A Charlie Brown Christmas compared to most other Christmas specials.

It's our first annual Christmas Special! (Sort of...) We begin with a discussion of the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian and the return of THE Jedi! We also wonder about Star Wars fans' unsettling fascination with and enjoyment of brutal, violent deaths. Next we talk about our annual viewing of the classic film White Christmas and the problematic racial elements of old movies. Then we talk about Christmas music and touch on innumerable random topics including how much Dad hates himself for not being able to NOT talk about Star Wars. 

In this episode, we offer thoughts on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Year Without a Santa Claus, Jingle All the Way and the “live” viewing of The Grinch Musical! We also talk about why its dumb to always buy the newest, most popular gadgets and ridicule people who think they are actually relevant enough to “cancel” someone. We finish the episode by discussing the latest chapter of The Mandalorian and why Dad won’t watch any of Disney’s planned tsunami of new Star Wars content.

In this episode we recap our Thanksgiving Day! Dad fact checks the previous episode and had no idea who anyone was in the Macy's Parade. He also rethinks his stance the traditional Thanksgiving meal and did not watch the Detroit Lions game. We discuss the live streamed Josh Groban concert and why our family loves him so much. Also, Dad regrets letting his kids watch John Hughes movies and the James Bond film "Goldfinger." We wrap things up by talking about the Muppets and our annual viewing of "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street."

In our debut episode we discuss Thanksgiving, whether people actually make the things they pin on Pinterest, the two times Dad went to the Macy's Parade, the no-win scenario of the Coronavirus pandemic and school, acknowledging the holidays of other cultures, "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and the awfulness of Peppermint Patty. We also discuss Dad's surprise that John Mulaney never comes up in the conversation, Fred Astaire, and the correct ways to pronounce oeuvre and gnocchi.
