Palmer Library Adventures

Adventures at the Palmer LibraryPalmer Library turns 80 in 2026 and we want to record stories about the library in Palmer, Alaska. This podcast series takes us on a journey – from colonists collecting books to store at the United Protestant Manse to a room in the Mat-Maid building to some garages and even to the famous chicken coop! Along the way, we will meet different Library People: librarians, patrons, researchers, authors, and others to help us learn about the history of the Palmer Library and so much more.Each episode will bring a mix of voices and stories about the library from the past and current times. There may be some tours of other libraries and even updates about building a new library in Palmer, Alaska.We are planning on an audio podcast that would be listed with al the regular podcasts sites, but also envision trying to doing a video version on youtube. The video part would be to allow for photos or video clips that would be of interest to go with the podcast.

Episode 3 of Palmer Library Adventures: Part 2 of the Chicken Coop Library
Episode 3 begins with Mardeen, the current president of the Friends of the Palmer Library, and she tells us of some of the fundraising that's been happening in the last month or so, especially about Palmer's Dash to Gold, or From Love to Luck, a community fun run that happened on St. Patrick's Day that was very well attended and many people participating in.We've also got Bethany, a library specialist, telling us about the elementary school kids' mid -week meetup that she does and helps coordinate on Thursdays from 3 to 5.Once again, we've also got Seinna, the library activities coordinator, and she's outlining the library's regular programs.And director of the library, Joy, talks about the Quiet Company Book Club and also tells us how the library now has its own Facebook page for the Palmer Public Library.And then we've got part two of Joanne continuing to tell us of her memories of doodles and the chicken coop library from back in the 60s, I believe, and 70s.We also return for Part 2 of our Interview with Jo Ann Utt! She shares more of her memories of the Palmer Library as a child. That library was in a modified Red Chicken Coop and the Librarian' name was "Doodles". Episode 2 of Palmer Library Adventures, features Part one of our Interview with Jo Ann Utt! She shares her memories of the Palmer Library as a child. That library was in a modified Red Chicken Coop and the Librarian' name was "Doodles". This episode also features Friends President Mardene Collins, Library Director Joy Bailey, and Seinna Bell, the Library Services Coordinator. Friends President Mardene Collins tells us of Friends Fundraising and Program Events not to mention the importance of donuts and books. Library Director Joy Bailey tells of monthly Books Sales and the Library Building Fund setup by the City of Palmer.
