How to be More Aware of Environment as a Photographer

Heyyyy! As promised, this week's episode will get your out into the world and taking pictures of what catches your eye! 👀 Alrighty, let's dive right in! Here are a few exercices to help you be more aware of your environment! Ensure that you photograph with  awareness the space in your frame. What you see in your viewfinder is what will be in the image, no more, no less I want you to keep a focal length of 35mm. It will force you to get close to your subjects. Eliminate anything that could damage the image. Make the main subject take up as much space as possible in the frame, or even all of the image space Divide the image into thirds in each direction of the frame and place the highlights of the image at the junction of these lines Do not erase any image in your camera, sometimes you judge the photos too quickly. Take the time to look at the photos one by one when you get home You should have approximately 100 to 150 images and approximately 50 separate subjects. You may need to shoot the same subject multiple times to get different points of view and exposure. This project works: The composition of the image Your perspective Space Your urban environment Image perception Take photos directly in monochrome in your camera Set your ISO to 200 (400 if it's dark outside). What to photograph: You shouldn't literally photograph a shape as it is. You have to structure the image geometrically, so that the entire image has the required shape. An image that emphasizes the high contrast of light An image that emphasizes oblique lines (V, A, X compositions) An image that emphasizes curved lines (S composition: shaped like the letter S so that each point touches the ends of the frame, obliquely from corner to corner) An image that emphasizes the depth of the image (not the depth of field, but the depth of space photographed using the different planes of the image) An image that uses over-framing ("frame" in the image - a frame within a frame) An image that emphasizes symmetry (geometric shapes perfectly balanced from one side of the frame to the other, like a mirror). A flat or frontal composition An image that emphasizes textures As mentioned, you can send me your photos to view them and give you feedback. Post them on Instagram and tag me @korina_joseph_podcast or send them to me via direct messages on Instagram @korina_joseph_podcast

Let’s Talk About Your Camera Settings!

What the heck does MASP mean on your camera? How do I use them? “Whattttt? I’m so lost, I’ll just use auto”… said no professional photographer ever. This is how you know that it’s getting real! You’ve reached the step of wandering beyond the auto or scene settings on your camera; now what? In this episode, we tackled the different modes that DSLR and mirrorless cameras have. I prefer to shoot in M (manual mode) as I have FULL control on my camera’s settings. However, some photographers prefer to shoot in Aperture priority, Shutter speed priority, and even Program. But what are the differences between them? And which should you use in a given situation? Here, we explain what each one does and when you may want to use it. Remember, the best way to learn is to go out into the world and try things. You may fail but you will definitely learn! Tune in next week as we will be discussing how to shoot in harsh lighting and I’ll be giving y’all a couple of exercises to do to be more familiar with the powerful tool you have in your hands i.e., your camera. Let’s rock this week, K

    Photographers! Let's talk objections!!

Hey you, Yeah, you! The photographer listening to this episode! We all know that things aren't always sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows... We're living in a digital age where everyone has a camera in their pocket. You should not be seeing this as competition because you need to positon yourself as the expert! In this episode, I discuss some common objections that you may hear and how to respond to these objections. And let's be honest, pricing is often an issue! Stop the head trash! You can do this! I believe in you!! Best, K

Let's Talk About Your Morning Routine!

Listen up y'all!! We need to talk. What does your morning routine look like? Does your alarm ring 30 minutes before you have to leave the house or do you snooze your alarm twice in the AM? If this is you case, you NEED a morning routine! Morning routines help set the tone for your day... and trust me, you don't want your day to start with you rushing to brush your teeth, grab a bagel, and speed off to work. Morning routines allow you to control your schedule rather than your schedule controlling you. Each day deserves a fresh start and having a proper morning routine will help you focus on your day, what's ahead, where to prioritize your energy & your time... this leads to increased productivity! Score!!

The Importance of Taking a Break

Hi my PhotographyVerse friends! As entrepreneurs, what we do does not feel like work cause it's what we love to do!! BUT, and yes, there's a but!! In this week's episode, we talk about the importance of taking a break in order to recharge. Taking a break does not mean closing-up shop for two months, but simply ensuring that you take time for yourself. Taking a break can mean many things... putting your phone down 1h before bed, accepting that it's okay to answer an e-mail the next day, setting time aside to paint, taking half a day off to go for a hike and connect with your surroundings. Overtime, these little activities will make a BIG difference. Ask yourself, at the current rate that you're going. How long can you keep it up? 1 week, 2 months, 6 months, a year, 3 years, 5 years? This is extremely important. If you cannot keep going at this pace longterm, definitely take the time to re-evaluate what you're doing. You do not want to burn out.

    Invest in Yourself

Yo yo yo!!👋🏾👋🏾 Take this as a sign! There is nothing else I can tell you besides its time to invest in yourself... not tomorrow, not in a week or a month but NOW! You've got this! Believe in yourself✨

Stop Focusing on the Outcome... Start Focusing on the PROCESS!

Hello podcast peopleeeee 👋🏾 I'm so excited that this podcast is finally out! This episode, completely unscripted, talks about how I have performance anxiety AND I know I'm not the only one. I wish I could be writing in the past tense but I still struggle with focusing too much on the outcome, and not enough on the process. I'm not perfect, I still focus on the end results and do certain actions for the sole purpose of getting closer to my goal. This is something that I'm working on and I open up about what I do to ensure that I am providing value, enjoying the process, and being selfless -- not selfish. The Importance of Setting Goals and Believing in Them

Heyy heyyyy! In this week's episode, I get personal. I discuss my recent promotion within one of my businesses... I was told by family AND friends that my goals were too big, that it was just a dream that would not and could not be true. I used their negativity as fuel to prove to them (and to myself) that I am able to achieve big goals. However, in order to achieve a goal, a game plan needs to be written and put into action. This episode details the importance of having daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goals. Do you have unwavering faith in yourself and in your goals? Are you easily shaken up by other people's opinion of you? Or do you use the naysayers words as fuel?

    Let’s Talk About Your Mindset!

Hey leaders in the making! In this week’s episode, I discuss various tools that are needed to be successful! I can’t tell you what success looks like since I am continuously striving for success but I can definitely help you on your path to success 😄 1) So, to be successful, you need to be a lifelong learner. Which book are you reading? What podcast are you listening to? Are you learning something new everyday? Working towards your goal? Learn, learn, learn! 2) What’s your vision? Do you have a vision board? Where are you going? It’s easy to give up when you haven’t found your “why” yet! 3) Networking! Put in the work! You NEED to show up every day in order to get the results. 4) Motivation comes and goes so stop relying on it. Stop finding excuses and start being more disciplined. 5) Get out of your comfort zone! This is how you grow!! Worst case scenario, you make a mistake, you learn from it, and you grow! Send me a DM on Instagram (@korina_joseph) with three things you are proud of. Whether you achieved a professional or personal goal, or you started your dream. You bought your first property, added another vinyl to your collection, whatever. Send me a message and let’s connect 🥰

    It's Okay to Say No!

Often, when I talk about personal development and mindset, people think that it's just about having a positive outlook on life. Personal development goes much deeper than that. In this episode, I discuss the importance of saying "no". The importance of being confortable with your worth. The importance of having an attitude of abundance.  Whether you are selling a product or a service, clients and prospects will buy you first. You are selling yourself. Make sure that you are 100% present. Your client deserves your undivided attention.

Let Go of What No Longer Serves You

Hi there! This week's episode is all about being confident and letting go of what no longer serves you. Fear and doubt will creep in; your inner-saboteur. You need to start....It doesn't have to be perfect but you just need to be moving forward. Things that happened in the past no longer serve you. Everyone's mindset is different but by working on yourself, you will unlock untapped potential. It's time to change your mindset when it comes to fear, judgement, and being scared of what others think of you.
