    3 - More than Human?

In this episode we review Blade Runner, one of the science fiction films that defined the whole genre, and we ask - what does it mean to be human? And should we allow humans to be augmented with the use of technology? This month's paper:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6636863/Music by Ross Bugden:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnPLbKmYCKQ

2 - As Much Nothing As Possible

Today on the podcast, we ask - war -  *huh* - what is it good for? But most of all, we ask - is it better to do less in medicine? We’ll be travelling back to the 1970s and watching MASH, the Korean War satire that led to one of the most successful television series of all time. We’ll be comparing it to the House of God, a cult novel among doctors from the same period. Both of these are fictionalised accounts based on a real doctor’s life, and they are known for their black comedy and freewheeling portrayal of sex. Do they still hold up today, or are they dated relics best left in the past? This month's paper:https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1910775Music by Ross Bugden:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnPLbKmYCKQ

To answer that question, we’re going to review a film about a doctor who’s also a clown, find out about the doctor who inspired the film, and read a scientific paper about laughter therapy.Music by Ross Bugden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnPLbKmYCKQLink to laughter therapy paper:https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0219065
