Episode 105 – Dirt Rising While Asphalt Falls
There’s a shift happening—and if you’ve been paying attention, you can feel it.Episode 105 dives headfirst into a wild weekend that perfectly sums up where short track racing in our region stands right now. Langley made the trip to Princeton and spent nearly four hours at the track without seeing a single race. Frustrating? No doubt. But here’s the kicker—the place was packed, the facility looked great, and the racing surface was in top shape. Everything was there… except the racing itself. Princeton eventually got the show in, but not until around 1:30am—long after Langley and his crew had headed out.Meanwhile, dirt racing keeps grinding.Oak Level Raceway hosted the RidgeRunner Late Model Series opener with 12 cars, followed by 7 at Wythe Raceway the next night. Not massive numbers, but considering the competition from other steel block races across the region, it’s a solid starting point for something that’s trying to grow the right way. The surface at Oak Level is improving—not perfect yet—but help is on the way as Bubba Miller brings in fresh clay from Wythe ahead of the Modified Mafia doubleheader on May 8-9.On the asphalt side, things continue to be a struggle.Franklin County remains the biggest question mark in the region as uncertainty keeps building around whether cars will even hit the track. We break down the latest and what it could mean moving forward. There’s also discussion around Natural Bridge, plus a preview of the opener at Pulaski County Motorsports Park and what kind of car count to expect. IHRA’s second race at Pulaski didn’t quite match the momentum of the first, and we dig into why.And as always, the live viewers brought the heat with questions, comments, and opinions that kept the conversation rolling.Dirt might not have all the answers—but right now, it’s the one still swinging.

Episode 104 - Rowsey Therapy… Is It the End of Racing at Franklin County?
What was supposed to be a straightforward conversation turned into one of the most bizarre episodes in Pit Chatter Podcast history.Franklin County Speedway’s newly announced promoter, Rowsey, joins hosts Langley Austin and Noah Hinchee for Episode 104. The expectation? A breakdown of his new role, plans for the season, and a message to racers and fans about the future of the track. That’s not what happened.Instead, Rowsey admits he doesn’t have details about the race he’s agreed to promote, suggests his role may only involve posting on Facebook, and then delivers a shocking message—telling Langley he needs to reconcile with his father, Whitey Taylor, or there may be no racing at all this season.Confusion sets in quickly. As the conversation unfolds, signal issues cut in and out while Rowsey is on the road—leaving more questions than answers and no real clarity on whether Franklin County Speedway will see a green flag in 2026.Langley is left trying to make sense of it all. Noah is left speechless—which might be a first. After weeks of uncertainty, including the last-minute announcement that the track would be leased just days before opening night, Episode 104 captures the chaos, frustration, and reality of where things stand right now.Is this truly the end of racing at Franklin County… or just another chapter in a story that keeps taking unexpected turns?

The conversation covers expectations, challenges, and how experience from Ararat BullRing and Oak Level Raceway will shape decisions in 2026.They also discuss the reality of running three racetracks in one season, the time constraints that come with it, and what has to change operationally to make it all work without losing what makes each track special. No fluff. No corporate spin. Just an honest conversation about responsibility, growth, and the road ahead for one of Virginia’s most talked-about short tracks.

Episode 89 - Brian Rowsey on Losers, Payouts & One-Race Promoters
Brian Rowsey joins Langley Austin and Noah Hinchee for an episode that goes exactly how you’d expect. Rowsey, who at one point promoted a single race at Natural Bridge Speedway, shares his belief that the track wouldn’t still be around if not for his involvement — a statement that immediately sets the tone. The discussion dives headfirst into the firestorm that followed that event, including Rowsey’s remarks calling non-winning racers who expected to get paid “losers,” his stance that tow money and payouts beyond the top five shouldn’t exist, and his belief that cutting payouts is the key to keeping racetracks financially alive.Whether you agree with him or not — and many won’t — this episode is raw, uncomfortable at times, and exactly the kind of conversation short track racing rarely has out loud. Opinions clash, tempers flare, and nothing is off the table. This one isn’t for everyone — but it is Pit Chatter.

Episode 88 - Talking Racing with No Racing to Talk About
This week’s episode comes a day late after a difficult Tuesday, but Langley Austin and Noah Hinchee still sit down to talk racing the only way they know how — real and unfiltered. With the season winding down and not much on-track action to break down, the conversation shifts to the cultural differences between dirt and asphalt racers — how conflict, fighting, Facebook drama, and public call-outs are handled very differently depending on the surface. The guys also talk about how today’s dirt racing culture mirrors what asphalt racing used to be before social media changed everything.Sometimes there’s no race to recap — but there’s always racing to talk about. This episode is a laid-back, thoughtful look at where the sport has been, where it is, and how the culture continues to evolve in the off-season.

Episode 71 - Stock4 Chaos & Confusion
We kicked things off with the usual BS before diving into a packed weekend recap. From 48 hours of CARS Tour action at Hickory – including Mini Tyrrell's win, Kaden Honeycutt getting the black flag, and the Tristen McKee/Landon Lewis wreck – to wondering if John Campbell already knew the outcome before it happened, we had plenty to chew on. Oh, and Bowman Gray? They decided not to continue tech this week like they did the weekend before. Then came the main event: a deep dive into Stock4 chaos at Franklin County Raceway. Wesley Givens’ night went from bad to worse – first black flagged for a questionable blocking call against Keyshaun Claytor, then DQ’d from the second race for lining up wrong on the restart. But the real jaw-dropper? Tech inspection by burnouts to check transmissions. Two failed – including Givens – but after further inspection, his wasn’t illegal… yet it was still banned from future competition. Meanwhile, another assumed LSD transmission was deemed legal because the car could have come from the factory with it (without confirming if it actually did). This mess led to a midweek rules change now allowing LSD transmissions in that specific car model. Givens still got the DQ, not for the infraction itself, but for his reaction to it. Confused? So were we – but we break down every bit of it in this episode.
