Special Edition Episode – How Dare You?

I’ve been very quiet over the past two weeks.  I really had to take a moment to gather my thoughts.  My mother always said that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything.  While I still don’t have anything nice to say, at least it’s thoughtful message.  That’s the best I could do.  As I’ve watched 2020 unfold, I’ve maintained that it’s a necessary year for change that is overdue and timely.  I still believe this, but I’m overwhelmed and I’m human.  I’ve watched countless deaths happen right before my eyes at the hand of law enforcement….those who are to protect and serve.  I don’t feel protected, and I damn for sure don’t feel like it’s serving me well.  You see I’ve raised a Black Man, I’ve raised a Black Woman….and I have another Black King and Black Queens coming up behind them.  I look at my Black babies every time a member of my royal family is murdered, gunned down, suffocated in the streets, murdered while in custody, shot down at the Jack In the Box, shot down after jaywalking….the list unfortunately goes on…  Sadly, this isn’t new.  The only difference now is that the current  leadership has created a culture where some feel these actions are defensible.  The other thing that has changed is that we have the benefit of technology so that these atrocities can’t be buried under a sea of lies in the name of ill willed service and protection.  Tune in and Take action!

    Self Validation

Welcome back!  I hope you all have had an amazing 2 weeks!  We are still in January, January 2020….2020 the year for manifesting your desires and purpose.  So in alignment with that, I’m going to talk to you about self validation.  How do we draw the line between self validation/external validation , appropriate social norms, and contributing to the world your authentic best self?  How do we do that?  I think this is something we all grapple with from time to time.  Why?  We grapple with this because we want acceptance, we want to be beautiful, we want to be smart, we want to be contributors.  We worry that what we are contributing isn’t being valued. So what do we do….we look outside of ourselves to get validation that we are doing this whole thing  the right way.  There are times when this might be appropriate.  Perhaps you might go the board members when making big decisions (that tight trusted team of people you keep in your personal arsenal to call upon when needing to bounce ideas or weigh decisions).  You might also need to check-in to make certain that you aren’t unintentionally hurting the feelings of a friend in a way that isn’t constructive or for their betterment.  Other than that, seeking external validation can be dangerous for you and for all of us.  Why do I say this?  I say this because, if YOU don’t like YOU….than what does it matter what “THEY” like?  YOU don’t like it!  And contrary to that, if YOU like it and LOVE it and it makes you feel good, then you are winning!  Also, if we’re constantly conforming, looking like everyone else, thinking like everyone else, saying what everyone else is saying, then we stop growing as a culture.  We’re failing mankind by not promoting our own individuality and unique contributions.  What are the major pitfalls and how can we protect ourselves? Social MediaSelf-reflectionAcceptanceExposureTime As we move into 2020 and throughout this upcoming year, ask yourself, what can I do better for myself this year?  How can I be better?  Take the time for self-development and self improvement.  You won’t regret it.  Bless us with your gifts!

    Episode 11: Compassion First

Welcome! This weekend I had the pleasure of attending an amazing event held by The 333 which is founded by Khari Walker. The 333 provides amazing experiences to promote positive social change. I encourage you to access the link to learn more about their mission. This particular experience was an amazing yoga session followed by guided meditation led by an amazing woman Preethaji, founder of the O&O academy. The O&O Academy hosts many classes, conferences and events aimed to promote spiritual development. Saturday’s entire event was generally hosted by Usher Raymond, and it was truly amazing! During the guided meditation we did an exercise in soul syncing where you connect with the person next to you by staring into the eyes of one another. For the first few seconds it is awkward, and the room is full of giggles. However, after a few seconds you truly begin to sync and connect with the person next to you. It was truly a moving experience. It led me to thinking about our current state of affairs with technology. Does or societal attachment to technology rob us from having and displaying compassion for our fellow man/woman? Human touch is important, and I thought of some things that we can all do to make certain that we are promoting positivity and compassion as we use or social media platforms: Schedule time for social media (don’t allow it to consume your day and rob you of productivity). Take time to live in the real world without the virtual world distractions.Be responsible with your brand.Show compassion for one another. Be positive with your message.Be authentic.Use social media to promote positive social change.Use discretion.Honor your life.Honor your platform.Be respectful.
