009: The Minor Gesture with Erin Manning

I recently had the pleasure and honour of interviewing the fabulous Erin Manning, Research Chair in Philosophy and Relational Art at Concordia University and director of the SenseLab (among many other things)... We discussed her beautiful new book, The Minor Gesture (Duke 2016), and our conversation ranged into many of the other fields and interstices where Professor Manning's thought unfolds and flourishes, including: -The immanent choreography of weight lifting: volition, agency, effort -Moving at edge of the symphonic, from movement to philosophy -The potentialities of minor, as opposed to Grand, gestures of politics -The tricky convergence of identity politics and the trans-subjective ecologies of individuation -Neurodiversity and/or mental health: how to be a sensitive person in the world -Supporting thought at its limits and surviving in the neoliberal academy And a lot more! 008 Hybrid War on the Radio - Agency and Strategy in Contemporary War (B)

Part 1 B. Things are heating up at RP ... we are moving from media theory to theories of contemporary warfare! In this episode, the first of a multi-part broadcast, Hybrid War on the Radio, an oral thesis on agency and strategy in contemporary war. Part 1: How does war become hybrid? Hybrid War on the Radio is a version of Joshua Noiseux's graduate work, "Becoming Hybrid: Towards a Critical Theory of Agency in War" that has been adapted for blasting through the radio waves! Completed in late 2015, the thesis tries to understand how and why war is rapidly changing in the 21st century, growing to absorb all areas of human life and activity, affecting everyone. In this first part, "How does war become hybrid?", we explore some of the most important recent developments in warfare. We also look at the changing ways that scholars and the military itself THINK about war, and what impact changes in thought can have on the battlefield.
