Titre : Une habitante de Villa-di-Prali récite et chante la chanson ''Mamma mia dammi cento lire'' Incipit littéraire : Mamma mia dammi cento lire / che in America voglio andar Commentaire : L'informatrice, dans le fil de la conversation, cite une chanson. L'enquêteur dit qu'il ne la connaît pas et lui demande plus d'explications. L'informatrice récite alors les paroles de la chanson en donnant, pour certaines strophes, sa traduction et des explications en français. Les interlocuteurs commentent la beauté et la tristesse de la chanson. Puis l'informatrice entame le chant dans son entier d'une voix légère et gracile. La chanson traite de l'aventure d'un jeune homme désirant partir en Amérique et demandant à sa mère les moyens d'y parvenir. Te passer l'eau, te passer la rivière ? Commentaire : Un ancien mineur du Piémont interprète une des chansons de son cahier. Elle traite de l'histoire d'un homme voulant passer une rivière sur la barque d'une batelière et ne se tenant pas sagement en chemin. Un dialogue s'engage entre les deux : la fille repousse l'homme et finit par lui voler son argent.
