Over a decade of struggling with poor body image and eating disorders, I knew I had to heal my relationship with food and my body—not only for myself, but for my future children. I was determined to break the cycle of dieting and body loathing and raise my children to accept their bodies and follow their intuitive eating cues. Now as a mother, I've discovered that so many parents share the same concerns. It may encourage kids to sneak food, hide what they eat, or develop disordered eating habits.Role of Parents and Teachers: Parents should decide what goes into the lunchbox but allow their child to choose how much and what to eat. Teachers should respect children’s food choices and avoid commenting on or policing what they eat.Food Labeling Issues: Labels like "good," "bad," or "junk" can harm a child’s food relationship, leading to binary thinking about food.Encouraging Positive Eating Habits: Teachers can support kids by focusing on mindful eating, not making judgements about the food.     Should you throw your bathroom scales out?

    From healing to coaching: My food and body Image journey

    Hello and Welcome to the Redwood Wellbeing Podcast, where each week I am dedicated to supporting parents on the journey of nurturing their child's healthy relationship with food and their body image. I help you to become empowered to make a lasting difference in your child's wellbeing journey.In my very first episode (eek!) I give you a brief insight into my own food relationship and body image history, and how it all brought me here, to start redwood Wellbeing and be a part of the change we want to see in this world.I share about how I had no body image issues struggles as a child but the messages from the world that I was constantly receiving about my body meant that as I grew into adulthood, my worth had become closely tied with my weight and size. This led to debilitating eating disorders that spanned well over ten years as I desperately tried to get back to the weight that was praised my whole childhood. The recovery and healing journey also took many years, but with my experience, training and study to coach and counsel, I'm now able to support parents in navigating the connections between their child's eating and body image relationships.
