From Walking on Eggshells to Self-Leadership

Part of being resourced and resourceful means being in tune with my body, my thoughts, and my emotions — and giving all those aspects of myself care. In this episode, I get personal about what that actually looks like in practice.I share an exercise I did using the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model, mapping out the different parts of myself that show up around a difficult relationship: the peacekeeper, the eggshell walker, the brick wall, and the part that just wants to say "get off my foot." I talk about what's underneath those parts, and how I'm using the 8 C's of self-leadership to find my way from walking on eggshells to self-leadership.I also share updates on my summer plans, a mini retreat I'm planning for early July, and some exciting news about walking part of the Camino de Santiago with my Aunt Babs.If you've ever felt stuck in a difficult relationship, judged yourself for not handling it better, or struggled with self-doubt around your creative and professional life, this one's for you.Let's Connect!www.drchristinepetit.comLinkedIn: Christine E. Navigating Change, Challenge & Leadership

This week I'm sharing some reflections that came up in a pretty full few days — from a change management workshop where I dug into the DISC styles and what different people really need during times of change, to chaperoning my daughter's field trip and watching third graders tackle a teamwork challenge. I also got to spend time with some fellow leaders, and it was just a good reminder of how important it is to have peers who get what you're going through.Let's Connect!www.drchristinepetit.comLinkedIn: Christine E. Wild Geese, A New Dog, and the Work of Leadership

In this spring catch-up episode, I'm sharing what's been happening in my world. We just welcomed a new dog into our family, and I've been sitting with the question How do we tell history in honest, inclusive, and age-appropriate ways?On the work front, I'm leading workshops on change management essentials, communication styles, and productive conflict, and I'm using the DISC assessment as a core framework across all of it. I'm also speaking at a nonprofit board retreat about board dynamics and leadership and doing a podcast swap I'm really excited about.I close with a reading of Wild Geese by Mary Oliver, a poem I keep coming back to.If you're in the Los Angeles area, join me at Collage in San Pedro, CA this Saturday. Beyond the Single Leader

In this episode, I revisit my thoughts on accountability and community while sitting with the grief and complexity stirred up by recent revelations about Cesar Chavez. Drawing on conversations with friends and my own experiences, I explore my thoughts and hopes for what's next, including the recognition of movements beyond a single leader, more awareness about sexual abuse at the hands of those we trust, and more societal accountability for the conditions that allow abuse to happen.Let's Connect!www.drchristinepetit.comLinkedIn: Christine E. Talking to (a Part of) Myself

In this episode, I share a recent coaching session where I explored feelings of jealousy and competition — emotions that felt out of alignment with my core values around collaboration and abundance. Through parts work (Internal Family Systems framework), I uncover a tender part of myself that fears being left behind or thrown away. My Coaching Journey: Coaching That Holds a Bigger Picture

In this episode, I share my journey from coaching client to coach (which still includes being a coaching client at times!) and what I've come to believe about what makes coaching truly transformative. That path runs through years of community organizing and systems-change work, where I first experienced coaching as a tool for grounded, values-driven leadership. I reflect on what drew me to an approach that integrates individual growth and social change, and why I appreciate coaching regardless of the role I'm in.Let's Connect!www.drchristinepetit.comLinkedIn: Christine E. ICE, Social Media & Doing What We Can Where We Are

This episode is an unpolished and unscripted reflection of how I'm understanding the current moment. I share how I’m making sense of the current news cycle, the ongoing reality of ICE raids, and the violence and fear impacting our communities. I talk about how my academic work studying law enforcement and policing, my experiences documenting police activity, and my life as a mother shape the way I’m holding this moment.I weave in a discussion of social media and how I'm feeling about it right now, as well as examples from social media that are influencing me in various ways.In this episode, I:Name what’s happening with ICE and the impact on families and communities.Explore the tension between staying informed and getting pulled into social media outrage cycles.Talk about doing what you can, where you are—locally and nationally.Reflect on parenting for democracy--encouraging critical thinking: questioning authority, seeking multiple sources, and more.Share the importance of presence, connection, and grounded action.I also share a practice I’m returning to: a New Moon social media fast (Jan 15–21)—stepping away from Facebook and Instagram to reset and reconnect. How I Set (and Actually Met!) a Big Goal in 2025

In this episode, I’m using goal-setting as a very thin excuse to talk about one of the most concrete goals I set in 2025—and actually met: completing 130 workouts. Yes, there’s a little bragging. Mostly humble. The year started very slowly, fell way behind by June, and then picked up real momentum in the second half—until I hit my goal before Christmas.I share about:Setting a goal that’s clear, flexible, and meaningfulWhy visual tracking matteredHow support, community, and rhythm showed up over timeLetting go of “one right way,” especially when energy changes with the seasonsThis is the most tangible example of a goal I set and met in 2025—and I’m sharing it not because I think everyone should do 130 workouts, but because I hope you find some nuggets of inspiration to help you achieve your goals.Get Support for Your Goals and Creative Dreams!Schedule a free consultation: https://calendly.com/drchristinepetit/consultationCreative Dream Tea Parties - Change of plans! Emily Duval Ledger has learned a lot about life and leadership over the years, and now she's challenging herself to do it on roller skates.Emily describes herself as a personal trainer, business coach, nature nerd, roller skater, and, with a question mark, she adds "joy bringer." Although I sometimes grumble when she brings cones as part of my workout or pushes me with her tenacious optimism, I can attest to the fact that she is truly a joy bringer, a generous soul, and a very thoughtful friend, daughter, sister, partner, and cat mama (among many things!).Our conversation touches on many topics, including what she has learned in business over the past 20 years and how she began working with people who have Parkinson's disease. The Importance of Showing Up with Dr. Naida Tushnet

Listen in to this interview of Dr. Naida Tushnet, a community activist whose activism spans many decades, issues, and approaches. In our conversation, we talk about Naida’s work for peace and justice and the throughline of advocating for and organizing with marginalized communities across issues that she’s been involved in over the years and that are particularly compelling to her at this moment in history–Palestinian freedom, solutions to homelessness, and ending the ICE raids in our communities. Naida has a deep sense of justice and desire for peace that is rooted in her life experiences and education, her heart, and her moral compass. When Naida was awarded the Senate District 33 Wonder Woman recognition from Senator Lena Gonzalez in 2024, her bio said this: Naida C. Tushnet, Ph.D., was an educator, first as a high school teacher and, for most of her career, as an applied researcher of educational and community-based programs. Since her retirement, she has served on commissions focused on improving the quality of life for seniors, serving as Chair of the Long Beach Commission on Aging, on the executive board of the Long Beach Gray Panthers, and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at CSULB. She also serves on the steering committees of advocacy groups such as the Long Beach Area Peace Network, Long Beach Rising, and several Long Beach Democratic clubs. Community Building and Leadership with Babs Adamski (aka Aunt Babs)

We all need an Aunt Babs in our lives—someone who truly sees us and meets us where we are.My aunt, Babs Adamski, did that for me as a child—and more than forty years later, she’s still doing it now. I consider myself lucky to have her as both a family member and a friend—and as one of my earliest examples of what community building and leadership look like.In this conversation, we touch on our shared history; caring for children as an auntie, babysitter, and friend; writing through chronic pain; one of our guiding favorite questions (“Is this a problem or a situation?”); and more.Books Mentioned:Mind Your Body by Nicole J. How to Befriend and Work with Your Inner Critics

Launching this podcast stirred up some loud inner critics for me—and in this episode, I share how I learned to face them with curiosity instead of resistance. From my first introduction to inner critics through SARK’s work to discovering the power of Parts Work, I talk about what it means to work with these voices rather than push them away. You’ll hear personal stories, insights from Internal Family Systems (IFS), and practical ways you can begin noticing and working with your own inner parts. I also share how I moved through self-doubt to actually release this episode—grounding in qualities of self-leadership including courage, compassion, and connection. My hope is that you leave with a deeper sense of how to walk with your inner critics, listen for the wisdom they might hold, and connect more fully with your own inner wise self.Books mentioned:Succulent Wild Woman by SARKThe Bodacious Book of Succulence by SARKLove Letter to the Movement by Sarah Jawaid and Damon Azali-RojasNo Bad Parts by Richard C.
