Revenge of the Drive-In

Patrick and (usually) Jim watch, discuss, and review a pair of horror, action, and exploitation movies, with the intent of determining if they make for a good drive-in double feature. https://www.patreon.com/revengeofthedrivein

  1. 151

    Straw Dogs (1971) and Don't Torture a Duckling (1972)

Jim and Patrick cover a couple of controversial classics from legendary filmmakers Sam Peckinpah and Lucio Fulci. Rural settings, mysterious outsiders, and the best dummy in film history are featured.

  2. 150

Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987) and Supervixens (1975)

Join Jim and Patrick for the sex- and murder-filled premiere of Season 5, with Eric Freeman's phenomenal performance in Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2, and Russ Meyer's pinup fever dream Supervixens!

  3. 149

    Season 4 Awards/Recap

Jim struggles with alphabetical order as we hold our awards ceremony to honor the best in kills, acting, etc.

  4. 148

Across 110th Street (1972) and Branded to Kill (1967)

Jim and Patrick pick their movies this time, and Patrick picks a blaxploitation classic starring Anthony Quinn and Yaphet Kotto, while Jim picks a cult Japanese yakuza film in Branded to Kill.

  5. 147

Jurassic Park III (2001) and Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. This is our patrons' pick episode, where we tackle a couple of inferior sequels to excellent films.

  6. 146

Escape from New York (1981) and Sin City (2005)

Join Jim and Patrick on a harrowing journey into a Manhattan that's been converted to a prison, and then visit a few prostitutes in Frank Miller's Sin City

  7. 145

Police Story (1985) and Sukiyaki Western Django (2007)

In an Asian action double feature, Jim and Patrick marvel at Jackie Chan's death defying stunts and disagree over the merits of Takashi Miike's spaghetti western homage. For more, check out our Patreon!

  8. 144

Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Night Killer (1990)

Zombies! Italians! A Freddy Krueger-like killer that punches a rubber glove clean through women's torsos! Drunk drivers sneaking into bathrooms to stalk women! All these things (and many more) are featured in our episode on George A. Romero's classic Dawn of the Dead and the Claudio Fragasso/Bruno Mattei schlockfest Night Killer.

  9. 143

    Sonatine (1993) and Splitz (1982)

Jim and Patrick discuss Takeshi Kitano's existential yakuza drama Sonatine, as well as a sex comedy that might generously be considered "odd."

  10. 142

The Thing from Another World (1951) and Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965)

Patrick is joined by Godzilla expert Sean to discuss two very different but still memorable sci-fi monster movies. It's Howard Hawks, it's the original clout chaser Nick Adams (not to be confused with Ernest Hemingway's short story protagonist), it's Godzilla, it's Ghidorah (spoilers), it's Rodan, and it's a vegetable monster that requires blood to survive. It's The Thing from Another World and Invasion of Astro Monster aka Godzilla vs. Monster Zero!

  11. 141

PREVIEW - The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) Commentary Track PATREON EXCLUSIVE

Full commentary track available at  patreon.com/revengeofthedrivein

  12. 140

The Last House on the Left and Uninvited (1988)

Jim watched the wrong Last House on the Left, so we do a little bit of talking about the remake. But it's an iconic rape and revenge movie paired with a movie about a killer cat attacking George Kennedy, with Jim watching the wrong movies. What could go wrong?

  13. 139

Caligula (1979) and Nightmare Sisters (1988)

Jim and Patrick discuss two nudity-heavy films in the incredibly controversial Tinto Brass-Malcolm McDowell-Helen Mirren-Peter O'Toole-John Gielgud Italian-American Penthouse Films production Caligula, as well as one of two '80s sex comedies by director David DeCoteau to star the big three scream queens: Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer.

  14. 138

Wild Things (1998) and Candyman (1992)

Patrick is joined by Jared to discuss the erotic thriller Wild Things and the classic '90s slasher Candyman. Finally Tony Todd has a starring role in this podcast, and not just one of his slapped together cameos.

  15. 137

Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (1972) and Black Belly of the Tarantula (1971)

Two absurdly long titles make for some very entertaining films, as Jim and Patrick watch and discuss the Samurai/ronin/ninja classic Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance, and the Ennio Morricone-scored giallo with an all-star cast (including two and a half Bond girls!!!): Black Belly of the Tarantula.

  16. 136

The Raid (2011) and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (1978)

Warring martial arts schools, cops vs. gangsters, and the inimitable Jackie Chan. What's not to love in this episode on two Asian action classics - one from Indonesia (though for some reason we say Thailand the entire time), and one from Hong Kong?

  17. 135

The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) and Hong Kong Godfather (1985)

Kevin is back, and we get to talk Hitchcock, and Hong Kong movies featuring dummy kids being thrown through windows!

  18. 134

    Sisters (1972) and Women's Prison (1955)

In this episode, Jim and Patrick feature Brian De Palma's moving story of two sisters separated at birth, as well as an early women in prison film, the aptly titled Women's Prison.

  19. 133

Good Guys Wear Black (1978) and Spiral/Rasen (1998)

Join Jim and Patrick as they delve into the history and origin of Chuck Norris facts, as well as the odd release history of Ringu's first sequel. It's Good Guys Wear Black and Rasen!

  20. 132

Prisoners of the Ghostland (2021) and Black Emanuelle (1975)

Journey with Jim and Patrick to Samurai Town, the Ghostland, and safari with them in Kenya. It's Nicolas Cage in Prisoners of the Ghostland and the beautiful Laura Gemser in the sexploitation classic Black Emanuelle!

  21. 131

  38. 114

Ambulance (2022) and Born Reckless (1958)

I'm not going to lie - most of this episode is on Michael Bay's Ambulance. In part because there's a major disagreement between the two hosts, and in part because the Mamie Van Doren western Born Reckless is so damn boring.

Jim and Patrick discuss the incredibly controversial Kinji Fukasaku swan song Battle Royale, and some of special effects auteur Ray Harryhausen's wonderful work in The Valley of Gwangi. This episode's got dinosaurs, it's got grenades, it's got cowboys, katanas, and plenty of death.
