    Kompotoi - Rethinking Human Waste

Send us Fan MailThis episode is special one. It’s not every day that we take a deep dive into human waste, but here we are, and it is surprisingly fascinating. We sat down with Jojo Casanova, founder of Kompotoi, to explore the inspiration behind their beautifully designed compositing toilets (yes, toilets can be beautiful and these truly are). Together, we unpack what happens to the byproducts from their toilets and why society moved away from using human fertilizer. Jojo believes it is time to start thinking differently about waste. As a pioneering company, Kompotoi is leading the way in education and awareness surrounding human output. They are doing a tremendous job of challenging deeply embedded assumptions and reframing our thoughts to consider the concept of seeing waste as the valuable resource it is.This passionate and thought-provoking episode was a true pleasure to produce, and we are confident you will enjoy learning more about a topic that affects us all, yet is rarely discussed.Topics on this podcast:CompostingDry toiletsNight soil Association Valoo Circular sanitation PFAS Microplastics Japan night soil and Info Sanavation Africa EngelbergHoly Shit filmBooks mentioned:Wolf-Dieter Storl Ich bin ein teil des waldes reVyven is an educational forum that invites start-ups, innovators, organizations, experts, journalists, artists and everyday people to share their ideas and work on the environment with the greater community.Do you have a story to tell? Protect Our Winters

Send us Fan MailSwitzerland is an alpine nation with roughly 1,400 glaciers. We are fortunate to have stunning winters that draw tourists from around the globe, but as we discovered in episode 17, Swiss winters and the health of our glaciers are changing drastically. Protect Our Winters was founded by the American professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones in 2007 and the Swiss chapter in 2017 by Nicholas Bornstein. The focus of the organization is to communicate positive and emotional information as a means to channel passion for the outdoors. Once that emotional connection has been ignited, it is easier for people and organizations to turn their love for the mountains into concrete climate protection measures. Sitting down with Maren Stöber, former Deputy Head for the Organization, we learned a wealth of information about Protect our Winters and simple ways in which individuals can make a difference. Topics and Organizations mentioned on this podcast:POW Contact on Linkedin or InstagramMichelle Gisin -  Sport Ambassador Glaciers in Switzerland Peak glacial melt, masks the drought problem. Colour Your Trail

Send us Fan MailIn this episode, we have the true pleasure of sitting down with Jessyca Isidoro, Co-Founder of Colour Your Trail. Together, we explore the crucial topic of making the outdoors inclusive and safe for marginalized communities. Jessyca shares her deep love of nature, her impressive athletic journey, and the inspiration behind founding Colour Your Trail. She offers valuable insights into the historical experiences of people of colour in outdoor spaces, the barriers these communities face, and actionable steps we can take to create a more welcoming environment for everyone. This important and timely conversation, as we believe that nature should be a safe, accessible, and an inclusive space for everyone. Special note: We entered this space with great respect and are incredibly grateful to Jessyca for sharing her insight and knowledge on the topic with us. As learners, we are working hard to get it right, but it is certainly an evolution. What we think is most important is to continue to have these conversations and to learn from one another.
