How can we educate for existential threats?

In this episode, I am joined by Dr Luke Kemp. Luke is an affiliate of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk at the University of Cambridge and his work examines past civilisational collapse and future risk. His recent book, Goliath’s Curse, offers a radical retelling of human history – asking why societies fail, and how we might avoid a similar fate.Together with our audience, Luke and I focus on how we can educate for existential threats: issues like the climate crisis, biosecurity threats, and the prospect of devastating future wars. Each of these, or a combination of any of them, could trigger a societal breakdown. So I want to know how our education systems might respond and how we can equip young people with the knowledge, capabilities and qualities that give them hope of confronting such challenges? You have been listening to Rewilding Education.
