Risky Business with Shreen

The Risky Business with Shreen podcast convenes a candid and unfiltered conversation with powerhouse Black female entrepreneurs who, like her, walked away from “safe” corporate careers to build something of their own.Their stories reflect a larger movement: in recent months, more than 300,000 Black women—many of them high-performing, highly educated professionals—have been laid off or displaced from corporate roles amid a volatile, employer-driven job market. Instead of waiting to be rehired, many are turning disruption into opportunity—betting on themselves, their expertise, and their ability to create what corporate systems could not sustain.Together, these women explore the myth of stability, the emotional calculus of leaving, and the realization that if they could build success for others, they could build it for themselves.

In Part II of Risky By Design: Black Women Navigating Power Structures in White Spaces, the focus shifts from survival to strategy, legacy, and change.Black women leaders share how they protect their peace, decide when to speak up or walk away, and build coalitions to resist toxic systems. They unpack the complexities of mentorship, allyship, and accountability—asking what we owe ourselves, our peers, and the next generation.Together, they reimagine what true power looks like in spaces built to silence them, and what policies, practices, and leadership models must transform to affirm Black women.This conversation isn’t just reflection—it’s a blueprint for building collective power and shaping a more just future.

In this unapologetically bold episode, several Black women leaders sit down to share what it really means to navigate power structures where whiteness is the default and their leadership is often perceived as a threat. Each panelist will unpack the unique risks—both personal and professional—that they have faced simply for existing, excelling, and speaking up in spaces historically designed without them in mind. From managing coded language in performance reviews to the unspoken politics of being “too ambitious,” this conversation explores the invisible costs of representation, the burden of over-performance, and the unyielding strength required to lead while Black and female.
