(updated November 2022)Welcome to me and my podcast, "Sifting Sounds". I have a podcast it seems, this is it, and there was me thinking it was nothing more than a mixtape. It's a collection of bits and bobs which I've recorded and uploaded and attempted to sort into 'playlists' of a kind. It even includes a couple of cover songs from way back in another life, though there won't be many of those I assure you.So, what about me then, I'm a scribbler and snapper, rhymer and worder, blogger and poet, writer of words, thinker of thoughts, a watcher, a listener, a yogalect, an otterer, an experimental gentleman, a distraction, an anthropophobe not renowned for my social skills... and finally, a coffee-addict.... and tea.If you would like more you can amble over to my website,“My life as a piece of string”, on Wordpress, the link's here somewhere, my a blogscape and poemery of daily writings, rhymes, ramblings, and riflings, a stream of flimsiness with strains of whimsiness. ~~~~~~ Rob

Lay Down Sally
more nonsense from my one-time band, Scratch Avenue, way back in the long ago and faraway days, once again in one take with one cassette recorder and three over-zealous nomads, and this time we destroy a perfectly good Eric Clapton song, but at least I think we do it in style.... 'ish. Listen and weep!

Bad Moon Rising (cover song)
A case of mischief is the only way I can describe our version of this song. Yours truly on guitar and trashed vocals, Nigel (Crispy) Carter on bass and Mark (Scratch) Lane beating the drum in our long time ago in the late 1980's band, Scratch Avenue. Written by John Fogerty and originally recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival whose original version of this is blistering, a description which cannot be ascribed to this decidedly roughshod massacre. A few questions you may wish to ask yourself while listening to our attempt: what are those peculiar sounds at the beginning? Is that guitar actually in tune? Are they drunk? (quite possibly we were). Why on earth am I still listening to this? Disclaimer: it was recorded around a single microphone into a bog-standard cassette recorder. Let me assure you though it doesn't last long, thankfully. "Bad Moon Rising" © John Fogerty (1969)

If Birds Had Words
An experimental piece based on the principals of bird song made and recorded at Ty Newydd Writing centre on north west Wales in June 2016 by what I've come to call the Ty Newydd Scratch Choir. Essentially the participants of a Writing and Yoga course and included a few such unusual asides from the norm. Recorded in a conservatory to the sound of the rain outside. This is one of many pieces made at the time, all of which will be made available to those who took part via downloads elsewhere online. Many thanks to all who participated.
