A recipient of the Order of Australia Medal and inductee into the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame, Chad Morgan performed his absolutely unique blend of comedy and country music from the early fifties until he retired in 2024, aged 91. In this interview recorded before a gig at the Bororen Community Hall in Queensland on 18th April 2021, Chad Morgan shares his story of sacrifice with portrait photographer William Debois and answers a few questions about his long career, his rebellious spirit and having a multi-generational fanbase.Sadly, Chad passed away on 1st January 2025, less than a year after his final gig. Listen to Elster talk about her experience of coming out as trans in regional Queensland and the sacrifices required in becoming her true self. Elster was the first person I interviewed and photographed when I was invited to be artist in residence for a whole week at the Bundaberg Regional Art Galleries. After several very turbulent weeks in my personal life, being able to listen to a young person speak of facing adversity in such a candid and honest way was a very grounding experience.
