EP59 | James Podhorodecki | Sloan was a Rock 'n' Roll kid ... Read more
Santa On Weekendz, ho ho hoes, we're in the studio for the final episode of the year, what a massive year, kinda cool, kinda a lot, kinda the best. Final ep is with local writer James Podhorodecki author of the novel Stayin' Alive in Channel Country, an honest, brutal and wild ride through the character and psyche of modern day Australia, experienced and written during covid, the story, decisively captured, paints a vivid journey of essential relationships and how they define you, relationships with your friends, relationships with lovers, relationships with strangers and relationships with the strangest of them all - the book is also supposedly about a camel race in outback Queensland. James and i have a great chat - hearty even - it goes a little long but its the last one of the year, so who is really counting at this stage, i let it run a little, its lose, its literature, its philosophy, but its mostly shit talk with a few tasty insights buried in the soup to add some flavour. Its funYou can check out more on the book here:https://www.wordsofsloan.com/homeAlso, there is a band(NoTurns - check them out they're very cool)playing downstairs so the sound is a little dynamic but ultimately Melbourne atmospheric Also also, being the final of the year and the xmas special we decided to loop back around and run the original Billiam Satan On Weekendz intro theme song

EP43 | W.O.M.B.A.T | Experts agree, the key to modern happiness - Be 18 and play in a Rock 'n' Roll band with ya mates ... Read more
Yo, total madness, we managed to successfully reassemble all 4 members of W.O.M.B.A.T after a typically chaotic night of mayhem. They played at the Punters the night before with none other than local legends the Dumb Punts, then they entered the night and each experienced their own storyline of debauchery. The day after, they reconvene in the studios with myself and we hit record its more or less a Melbourne rock n roll version of Superbad in real life. Lucky me.Harry, Zoe, Leion and Lachlan are the superbads and have they've played over 50 gigs this year, or more, the stories are unsubstantiated but glorious. They play a lot. They play multiple times most weeks all over town. They're tight and are now a very well oiled machine. A band started off the back of attending a Split System show for the first time. They are working on recording music and once its available tis gonna be good. besides the disorder we mange to debate the hot topics, is Coffin a punk band? What you'll learn from the school of Dumb Punts, are instrument swaps still cool? How cool is Split System, Loving Royal Headache, is it true what they say about teenagers on drugs? And so on and so forth.Catch W.O.M.B.A.T at the Gem in the lobby bar August 2nd with The Rartel and Munted Chunts
