KCUR and KWJC Kansas City, both licensed to the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) provide NPR and classical music programming to Kansas City. The station occupied their studio space since the 1980s in a building built in 1949. Over the years, the building continued to face structural and mechanical problems. The stations were planning to move and looking for a new location when UMKC declared the building unfit for occupation. The stations were given 40 days to vacate. The SBE Ennes Workshop at the NAB Show has a long history, and the workshop is considered a highlight of the technical sessions. The SBE Ennes Workshop at the 2026 NAB Show will be presented on April 21 and 22. Two tracks are on the agenda: From Signals to Success: RF101 Gets You There, and Emerging Technology. Attracting new talent into broadcasting, especially the technical side, has been an ongoing effort by the Society of Broadcast Engineers. Many colleges and high schools offer programs in broadcasting, and we visit one of those programs at Liberty High School in Missouri. Broadcast Advisor Jamie Munoz is our guest. The Society of Broadcast Engineers Program of Certification was adopted in November 1975. To mark the occasion, the SBE has launched a program to encourage everyone to obtain or advance their SBE certification: CertChallenge. SBE Chapters are also being asked to hold one meeting dedicated to getting people SBE Certified. http://sbe.org/certconnect

The SBE held its annual National Meeting in Columbus, OH, on Sept. 24-25. The conclusion of the meeting was the annual Awards Dinner, which recognized the winners of the chapter and individual awards, as well as the new SBE Fellows.
