Slow Motion Triple Feature
by slowmotiontriplefeature
Every three weeks one of us picks a series of three movies based on whatever theme that person wishes. We then spend the next three episodes watching and discussing those movies in chronological order from when they were made.
-
100
87) Underrated 90's Sci-Fi - PT. III: Disturbing Behavior (1998)
David Nutter directed several all-timer X-Files episodes. So why is this movie so not razor?
-
99
85) Underrated 90's Sci-Fi - PT. I: The Lawnmower Man (1992)
Pierce Brosnan is a sexy scientist and Jeff Fahey is a sexy, uh, well, you'll see. Fortunately, this movie has no pertinent parallels to our current moment and the episode doesn't get derailed at all.
-
98
SLOW MOTION SINGLE - Life of Chuck (2025)
In this special episode, Andrew and erstwhile producer Lee make the case for The Life of Chuck, the unappealingly titled, genre-bending, expectation-defying film from horror master Mike Flanagan.

2025 Wrap-up!
Blow me, Oscars! Lick my balls, BAFTAs! Eat my ass, Golden Globes! We're bringing you the only award that matters: TOM CRUISE OF THE YEAR. And we also talk about like a hundred movies.
-
96
84) Weirdos in Love - PT. III: Amélie (2001)
We were budding cinephiles when Amelie came out in 2001, and we've been kind of scared to watch it since then. Does it hold up? Or is it unbearably quirky? Listen to find out!
-
95
83) Weirdos in Love - PT. II: Secretary (2002)
This film is distressingly difficult to find, which makes it even more disappointing that the low-rent streaming services on which it is available advertise it wholly on the back of Fifty Shades of Grey. Secretary and Fifty Shades share a few superficial traits—most strikingly the name "Mr. Grey"—but spiritually you could scarcely find two more different works. For one, Secretary is really good.
-
94
82) Weirdos in Love - PT. I: Chunking Express (1994)
Andrew and Mike had never seen Chungking Express, so now they owe Kit big time for getting them to watch one of the best movies ever made. Kit also had pneumonia during this episode, so if it sounds like she's about to fall asleep in the middle of a sentence, that's why (and that's after editing out all the coughing and long-ass pauses).
-
93
81) 90's Oscar Bait - PT. III: The Insider (1999)
To be honest, I'm still thinking about the title of Good Will Hunting, but it's time to watch The Insider, a movie with a name that actually makes sense. Jeffrey Wigand is an insider in the tobacco industry. Boom, done.
-
92
80) 90's Oscar Bait - PT. II: Good Will Hunting (1997)
Why is the movie called Good Will Hunting? Did they come up with the title and then name the character to give it a double meaning? It's not like "goodwill hunting" is a colloquialism, right? And Hunting isn't even a common last name—it's like one hundred times less popular than Hunt or Hunter. And I wouldn't even say Will was out in these streets hunting for kindness or connection. He was kind of forced into it. So what's the deal?
-

Xmas Triple - PT. III: Lethal Weapon (1987)
In this ep we answer the perennial yuletide question: Is it a Christmas movie or not? We're tackling the late-80s, LA-set action-comedy film that launched a slew of sequels, an entire genre, and one of the biggest box-office draws of the 90s, who plays a down-on-his-luck cop—that's right, it's Lethal Weapon!
-
90
Xmas Triple - PT. II: Go (1999)
The day has finally arrived: We discuss one of Mike's favorites, Doug Liman's Go, directed by Doug Liman, director of Go.
-
89
Xmas Triple - PT. I: The Ref (1994)
This year, we're doing a special holiday triple of black comedy crime thrillers set at Christmas. First up, it's The Ref, which somehow managed to flop upon its 1994 release...in March. At the time of recording, Kit was getting over pneumonia and Mike was dealing with a sinus infection, so you know this one sounds really good.
-
88
79) 90's Oscar Bait - PT. I: A Few Good Men (1992)
Son, we live in a world that has podcasts, and those podcasts have to be podcasted by guys with microphones. Who's gonna do it? You?
-
87
SHOCKTOBER 2025 PT. III - An American Werewolf in Paris (1997)
JUSTICE FOR TOM EVERETT SCOTT!
-
86
SHOCKTOBER 2025 PT. II - Demonwarp (1988)
It's the second episode of Shocktober 2025, and we're discussing Mike's pick, Demonwarp. The flick is chock full of tits and bigfoots, but surprisingly low on demons and warps. Needless to say, lots of nipple talk in this one, folks.
-
85
SHOCKTOBER 2025 PT. I - The Batman (2022)
Lean in, fright fans! It's the sixth annual Shocktober, and we have got a spooktacular slate of films for you this year. Up first, it's Kit's pick, and she's gone for a real horror classic, the downright spine-tingling tale of that quintessential creature of the night, the rata alada himself, The Batman, AKA the only Crow reboot Kit acknowledges.
-
84
78) Hard to Find a Friend - PT. III - Buffalo 66 (1998)
We finally watch one of Mike's favorite films and tackle the immortal question: Is Vincent Gallo hot?
-
83
77) Hard to Find a Friend - PT. II: The Cure (1995)
Mike generously devotes a portion of his triple to a documentary about Kit's favorite band, goth rockers The Cure—wait, what? It's a forgotten 90s movie about two kids becoming friends? And one of them is dying of AIDS? God damn it, Mike.
-
82
76) Hard to Find a Friend - PT. I: Umberto D (1952)
It's a wonderful night for Oscar! Oscar, Oscar! We recorded this episode at the end of February, so there's a lot of chat about the Oscars, whether Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas are really dating, and if this will really be the last Mission: Impossible movie. Also, we talk about a little Italian film called Umberto D.
-
81
75. Director's Worst Movie PT. III - One from the Heart (1981)
We’re finally watching the movie that killed Francis Ford Coppola’s dream for the movie business and permanently altered the course of his filmography. While critics and audiences at the time found little to like about this musical (?) romance (?), we don’t see how a film that looks this good could possibly be bad. Right? Right?
-
80
74. Director's Worst Movie PT. II - Hulk (2003)
Hulk smash…toxic masculinity? We’re joined by “man in the booth” Lee to discuss a movie he has been defending for more than two decades. Ang Lee’s Hulk feels like an artifact from an aborted alternate timeline in which Martin Scorsese might have considered comic-book movies to be cinema. And while its failure kind of put the kibosh on Eric Bana’s career as a leading man, Ang Lee recovered quickly, winning Best Director at the Oscars for his very next film. But is Hulk the nadir of a pretty good track record? Or a secret masterpiece?
-
79
73. Director's Worst Movie PT. I - 1941 (1978)
IN THIS EPISODE, WE’RE TALKING ABOUT SPIELBERG’S WORST MOVIE (OR IS IT?). PAULINE KAEL LIKENED 1941 TO “HAVING YOUR HEAD STUCK IN A PINBALL MACHINE FOR TWO HOURS”—BUT WILL THE AMERICAN FRIEND INSTITUTE AGREE? WHAT? HUH? I CAN’T HEAR YOU OVER JON BELUSHI SCREAMING.
-
78
SLOW MOTION SINGLE - Superman (2025)
Superman is foundational to Kit and Andrew's friendship, so who better to discuss the latest cinematic take on the Man of Steel? Mike sits this one out, out of respect for Zack Snyder.
-
77
72. Wild Wild West PT. III - Unforgiven (2013)
Unforgiven: Nope, not that one! We're talking about the criminally underseen 2013 Japanese adaptation of the Clint Eastwood classic, which closely follows the original but sets it in the Meiji period and adds swords to the gunplay. Which sounds pretty fucking cool, doesn't it?
-
76
SLOW MOTION SINGLE: Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025)
Time to light the fuse one last time as we discuss Tom Cruise's apparent final appearance as Ethan Hunt in what has become arguably the greatest action franchise to have ever graced the big screen. Plus we do an impromptu ranking of the whole series at the end, so that's fun.
-
75
71. Wild Wild West PT. II - The Shootist (1976)
YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAWWWWWW! Time to reflect upon and deconstruct the John Wayne western, possibly with some introspective help from the Duke himself. Saddle up, let's lock 'n' load.
-
74
70. Wild Wild West PT I - For a Few Dollars More (1965)
Do you or probably your dad like westerns? Well this is the triple for you (or your dad, probably)!
-
73
2024 Wrap-up!
So how did 2024 pan out? was it a complete pile of irredeemable, flaming shit? Or was it actually pretty alright? You'll have to listen to find out! And if you thought the runtime of The Brutalist was too much then get ready for twice the brutality with NO INTERMISSION.
-
72
69. Boyhood PT. III - Hope and Glory (1987)
Jump back in time to 2022 when we talked about this movie and a bunch of stuff that isn't anywhere near as relevant now as it was then! Fun!
-
71
68. Boyhood PT. II - Stand By Me (1986)
A belated PT. II of Mike's Boyhood triple feature. We sincerely hope you like crude little boy humor and pie eating contest-driven projectile vomiting!
-
70
67) Boyhood PT I - The Black Stallion (1979)
Come one! Come all! See the magic that can only exist between a young boy and a wild stallion who get shipwrecked on a tropical island together! This one is truly one of the greats.
-
69
SLOW MOTION SINGLE - Napoleon: The Director's Cut (2024)
Welcome to a discussion of napoleonic proportions.
-
68
SHOCKTOBER 2024 PT. III - I Saw the TV Glow (2024)
Do you remember the unique feeling of being a weirdo in the 90's who watched a lot of TV? This movie sure does! Buckle up for the final installment of 2024's SHOCKTOBER!
-
67
SHOCKTOBER 2024 PT. II - The Crow (1994)
Get ready to burn the city down for Devil's Night and beware of..... THE CROW (not to be confused with THE BATMAN).
-
66
SHOCKTOBER 2024 PT I - Ernest Scared Stupid (1991)
"They'rrrrrrrrrreeeeeeee heeeeerrreeeeeee" -Little Girl from Poltergeist talking about us returning to the 'cast-o-sphere for SHOCKTOBER 2024! Get ready to POO! your pants because we're talking about the scariest movie made for children under 10. 90's kids definitely remember...
-

Happy New Year! Time to discuss all of our favorite watches of 2023 (and some of our least favorite!). Unfortunately, we're running about...checks watch...7 WEEKS LATE? Oh my God, I way overslept. I am SO sorry.
-
64
SHOCKTOBER 2023 PT III - The Spiral Staircase (1946)
It wouldn't be Shocktober without an old and dusty spooktacle from the 40's! This year we ask again, "can old movies be scary?" Spoiler alert: the answer is still "kinda!"
-
63
SHOCKTOBER 2023 PT II - Eyes of a Stranger (1981)
Shocktober kicks it up a notch with a hidden gem we'd never heard of! It's kind of like Body Double but made for even less money!
-
62
SHOCKTOBER 2023 PT I - Cobweb (2023)
Change your diapers and pull the blankets up to your eyeballs because it's time again for SHOCKTOBER. This week we're starting with a blind watch of a 2023 movie that we'd never heard of.
-
61
66) Big Kit Triple PT III - The Cincinnati Kid (1965)
From the director of an AFI favorite, Moonstruck, comes Steve McQueen's second raunchiest film and the second raunchiest film in this very triple!
-
60
65) Big Kit Triple PT II - The Miracle at Morgan’s Creek (1944)
WaWaWeeWa, who knew people in the 1940's were so nasty? We're crankin' up the heat in part two of our Big Kit Triple!
-
59
64) Big Kit Triple PT. I - The Petrified Forest (1936)
In remembrance of our favorite listener we are watching three fantastic films recommended to us by the one and only Big Kit Shields.
-
58

He's back, baby! Get ready as we all cram into the sidecar that was attached Tom's motorcycle as it dove off the cliff.
-
57
63) Girls in White Dresses PT. III - Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975)
Take a trip down under as we discuss Peter Weir's completely unnerving and maybe very gay period horror film starring Jacki Weaver and a bunch of other people.
-
56
62) Girls in White Dresses PT. II - The Innocents (1961)
This is one of those defining movies that most people haven't heard about. It is truly amazing and has several stand out scary moments! Highly recommend.
-
55
61) Girls in White Dresses PT I - Black Narcissus (1947)
Get ready for another wild ride with badass directors' Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Things are about to get nasty.
-

25 years after its release and profound impact upon pulp culture, Kit finally sees The Matrix.
-
53
59) The Greatest Action Movies of All Time PT II - Terminator 2: Judgement Day
We'd be run out of town by an angry mob if this movie didn't make the list, and justifiably so. Ground breaking CGI, incredible practicals, and earning the line "I know now why you cry" would be more than enough to make this movie worthwhile, but there's so much more!
-
52
58) The Greatest Action Movie’s of All Time PT I - Mad Max: Fury Road
Buckle up and hit the accelerator as we deep dive into this seemingly impossible modern action masterpiece.
