In this poignant exploration of a coal-miners family, we delve into the lives of each member Walter Morel, the hardworking collier; his wife Gertrude, who grapples with her husbands reckless ways; and their children William, Annie, Arthur, and Paul. Originally intended to be titled Paul Morel, this narrative focuses on the complexities of maternal love and the challenge of breaking free from familial ties.
