It may come as a surprise to you that Beaumont has a place in baseball history.  Our topic today is Stuart Stadium, where the Beaumont Exporters, a Texas League baseball team, played between 1929 and 1957 in what is now the South End of Beaumont. Our guest is Jess Stuart, grandson of Rube Stuart, who owned the Exporters for much of that period and built the stadium that bears his name.Jess tells us about how his grandfather came to Beaumont as a young man at the turn of the century, worked in the oilfields during the Spindletop era, and eventually came to own the Exporter franchise and build the stadium.   His investment was not necessarily financially motivated as the team he bought rarely had a winning season.  Rather, he was as much motivated to give Beaumont a source of civic pride.   However, as the years went by, he invested heavily in talent and built a winning ball team.Click Here to Learn More About Stuart StadiumTo contact Capital Title with real estate questions and show ideas, please call or email us:[email protected] here for information and locations for Capital Title.

On January 10th, 1901, an event occurred in Beaumont that shook the ground, and shook the world.   A stream of oil shot up through the earth, and wasn't capped for 9 days.  At the time, it was the largest oil producing well in the world and it shocked all of those who felt the Gulf Coast held no oil reserves.   It was only through the persistent efforts of a handful of men and the support of their wives that the "black gold" was finally tapped at a depth of a little over 1,000 feet.   From this discovery, the modern petrochemical industry was born and life as we know it was changed forever. In this episode we talk with Mrs. Geanna Summy, director of Spindletop Boomtown museum and she shares with us the history of this remarkable discovery.Click here for more information on Spindletop BoomtownClick here for the full interview with Patillo Higgins from the Briscoe Center Oral History of the Texas Oil Industry. To contact Capital Title with real estate questions and show ideas, please call or email us: [email protected] here for information and locations for Capital Title
