Depression Doesn’t Always Look Like Tears

In this deeply personal episode of Table for Us, I open up about depression — what it looks like, what it doesn’t look like, and how it has shown up in my own life. From postpartum depression to grief after losing my grandmother and father… from heartbreak to isolation… from throwing myself into work to masking pain with strength — I share how depression isn’t always obvious. It doesn’t always look like tears. Sometimes it looks like anger. Sometimes it looks like isolation. Sometimes it looks like being “the strong one.” We also talk about: Depression in the Black community Grief and survivor’s remorse Generational mental health patterns Therapy and why it matters Faith and leaning on God when life feels unbearable If you’ve ever felt like you had to hold it together for everyone else… this episode is for you. Playing Chess While the World Wants Us to React

This week on Table for Us, we’re having a real conversation. It’s the first full week of Black History Month, and instead of sticking to my originally planned topic, I felt led to address something that’s been circulating online — and more importantly, how we respond to it. We’re talking about open racism, mental slavery versus physical slavery, and why protecting your mindset is more powerful than reacting emotionally. I share my perspective as a Black woman navigating corporate spaces, faith, entrepreneurship, and the realities of this world — without losing my joy. This episode is about: Why Black History Month still matters Playing chess instead of checkers Faith over fury Generational strategy and ownership Using your tax refund as a tool, not a toy Protecting your peace in a world that tries to provoke you Weapons may form — but they will not prosper. This isn’t judgment. It’s lived experience.

Addiction doesn’t always look like drugs or alcohol. Sometimes it looks like food. Sex. Gambling. Work. Avoidance. Numbing. In this raw and reflective episode of Table for Us, I sit with a hard but necessary conversation about addiction — not just what it looks like on the surface, but what’s happening underneath it. We talk about grief, trauma, depression, and the emotional pain so many people are trying to escape. I share personal experiences, including the loss of my grandmother at 16 and how grief led me to over-eating as a coping mechanism. We also talk about addiction in the Black community, how it shows up in families, how it affects those who love us, and why healing has to be a personal choice. This episode isn’t about judgment — it’s about understanding, accountability, and compassion. Because you can’t force healing on someone… they have to want it for themselves. 🎙️ Thinking About Starting Your Own Podcast? My podcast Table for Us is hosted on Podbean, and I love it. Gatekeeping, Jealousy, and the Price We Pay as a People

In this raw and unfiltered episode of Table for Us, I’m pulling up a chair and having a real conversation about competition, jealousy, envy, and division within the Black community—and how these dynamics quietly hold us back. I reflect on my own lived experiences growing up in the projects, witnessing both unity and unnecessary rivalry, and how those patterns still show up today—especially in entrepreneurship, success, and visibility. We talk about gatekeeping, lack of support, and the mindset that makes us feel like there isn’t enough room for everyone to win. I also share parts of my personal journey that many people don’t see—including a season of homelessness, survival, and rebuilding—because it’s easy to judge someone’s success when you don’t know the road they had to walk to get there. This episode isn’t about blame—it’s about awareness, accountability, and choosing unity over ego. 🎙️ Podcast Tools & Affiliate Links Thinking about starting your own podcast? Accountability Isn’t an Attack: It’s a Mirror

In this episode of Table for Us, we’re having a real, honest conversation about accountability—why it feels so uncomfortable, why many of us get defensive instead of reflective, and how growth requires us to own our part, even when our intentions were good. I talk openly about my own journey—how I used to respond from emotion and defensiveness, and how maturity taught me that taking accountability doesn’t mean self-shaming. It means self-awareness. We also explore the balance between receiving accountability and giving constructive criticism, because how a message is delivered matters just as much as what’s being said. This episode isn’t about blame—it’s about growth, healing, and learning how to communicate better within our relationships, families, and communities. 🎧 Start Your Own Podcast Thinking about starting your own podcast? GoFundMe Is Not a Plan: The Cost of Living Reactively

In this episode of Table for Us, we’re talking about being proactive instead of reactive when it comes to life—and why waiting until things fall apart is costing us more than we realize. From New Year’s resolutions and gym culture to life insurance, job security, finances, and independence, this episode breaks down how reactive living keeps so many of us stuck in survival mode. We discuss: Why GoFundMe should not be a financial plan Life insurance and preparing before loss happens The importance of backup plans when jobs or relationships change Standing on your own two feet financially and mentally Why most people fall off their goals—and how proactive thinking changes that This episode is about accountability, not judgment. Preparation isn’t fear-based—it’s freedom. 💼 Boss Talk Spotlight: NRO Company In this episode’s Boss Talk Spotlight, we highlight NRO Company, a creative brand built on consistency, adaptability, and smart systems—not reactionary hustle. When Survival Becomes a Ceiling: Settling in the Black Community

In this episode of Table for Us, we have a real conversation about settling in the Black community — where it comes from, how it was conditioned through history, and how it continues to show up in our lives today. For generations, we were taught to be grateful just to survive. Wanting more was often seen as risky, unrealistic, or even unfaithful. That mindset didn’t come from nowhere — it was shaped by slavery, limited access, and systems designed to keep expectations low. But survival was never meant to be the finish line. In this episode, we unpack how settling shows up in: Our careers and jobs Our relationships The environments we choose to live in Our dreams, goals, and faith We also talk about what it looks like to honor where we came from without staying stuck there, and how faith in God gives us permission to want more, reach higher, and build differently. 🎯 Boss Talk Spotlight This episode features a Boss Talk Spotlight on NRO Company, highlighting custom apparel, digital products, and creative designs for individuals and businesses. 📲 Follow on Instagram: @nrocompany 🛍️ Etsy Store (Custom Designs): https://www.descript.com 🌟 Be a Guest or Get Featured Interested in being a guest or having your business featured on Boss Talk Spotlight? 👉 Apply here: https://forms.gle/fJnGNgrS5iF7hn8k7

Red Flags Ain’t Decorations: Stop Ignoring What You See

In this episode of Table for Us, we’re talking about red flags—real red flags—not the cute ones we try to turn into “potential.” In this episode of Table for Us, we’re peeling back the layers of red flags in relationships—not the pretty, dismissible ones we try to justify, but the clear, unignorable ones we keep overlooking. Let’s Talk About It: Renting vs. Owning in the Black Community

Renting vs. Owning: A Real Conversation Through the Lens of the Black Community In this episode, we’re tapping into a conversation many of us grew up quietly navigating: renting versus owning — and what that looked like for Black families across generations. Growing up, homeownership often seemed like something reserved for White families, Asian families, or “other communities.” For many of us, renting wasn’t just a choice — it was the norm, the expectation, and the only model we ever saw. I truly believed I would be a renter forever… until the day God opened a door I never imagined I’d walk through. This isn’t an episode telling you to go buy a house or pushing the narrative that ownership is automatically superior. Instead, I’m sharing my story — the realities of renting, the realities of owning, the pros and cons of each, and the truth that your choice should align with your lifestyle, finances, and peace of mind. No shame. No pressure. Just real talk about options, access, and the shifts happening in our community as we redefine what stability, legacy, and home look like for us. 💼 Boss Talk Spotlight: Royal Legacy Services If you’re navigating credit challenges, taxes, or the path toward financial clarity — Royal Legacy Services is here to support your journey. Gratitude in Real Time | Family Day Reflections + Life Updates

This episode is personal in the best way. I merged two recordings — one from Family Day (aka Thanksgiving for everybody else 😅) and one I recorded today — and together they tell a story about gratitude, legacy, family, and remembering what really matters. On Family Day, I walked around my home capturing my children sharing what they were thankful for. Watching them cook, grow, and build their own lives genuinely filled me with pride. Seeing the family that I created — not the one I was born into, but the one that came from me — reminded me how far God has brought me. And today, I sat down and shared my own reflections. The gratitude. The grief. The healing. The moments I almost didn’t make it through. The silver linings that carried me. The blessing of still being here — in my right mind, with breath in my body, and with all my senses and mobility. This episode is your reminder that gratitude isn’t seasonal. On Do Not Disturb Choosing Growth Over Gossip Audio | Table for Us Podcast Ep: 8

In this empowering episode of Table for Us, I open up about the season of putting myself on “Do Not Disturb” to protect my peace and focus on what truly matters.
