  11. 65

    2.19 This Is Fine

Eli joins the regular cast, Rendle is going to be a CTO, and that's as much as I can infer from scanning the YouTube chat of an episode we recorded six months ago.I'm sorry.

  12. 64

2.18 May the First Be With You

That title made sense when we recorded this. I'm trying to catch up, honest, I'm just very, very, very busy.Anyway, let's talk about load balancing humans, an aeroplane full of potatoes, why the Android calculator app is WAY smarter than you can possibly imagine, what's happening at Devoxx UK, and more!

    2.11 The IDEs of March

Rendle's in Utrecht, so stunt Rendle this week is Eli Holderness! Let's talk about rewriting things in Go, making slides, running meetups and... you know the drill. Ramblecast gonna ramble.

  19. 57

    2.09 Upgrade All The Things!

Rendle's upgraded to Windows 11. Dylan's having fun with hard drives and thinking it's probably upgrade time too. But we know you're really just here for the tangents. Us too.

  20. 56

    2.09 Simplicity is Complicated, OK?

This week: Framework's new product announcement, why resource-based authentication is a MOOD, cameras (and why they're complicated), simplicity (and why it's also complicated), wires (and why there are wires) and, oh, y'know... stuff.

  21. 55

    2.08 Buffer Overflow

After two weeks with two fantastic stunt ramblers, Dylan and Rendle both show up and the Trello backlog of stuff to talk about is looooong, so we're gonna have to talk fast.

  22. 54

    2.07 Woody's Round-Up

Dylan is recovering from a xenomorph infestation so the delightful Chris "Woody" Woodruff is Rendle's guest partner for today's show. We talked about simplicity in software design and development, and performance in .NET, and some other stuff, and a splendid time was had by all. Enjoy.

Rendle's on an aeroplane so Dylan's going to be ramblecasting with architect, author and speaker Diana Montalion! Let's talk about systems thinking, explaining complicated things to simple people and simple things to complicated people, and that one time we randomly went to Castle Dracula. No, really.

  24. 52

2.05 We're At NDC London And You're Not

Dylan and Rendle are LIVE from NDC London! And the WiFi or something was not very good so the audio is not very good. I've done the best I can but it's still not great so please forgive us. It's still worth listening though, this was a fun show.

  25. 51

2.04 We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside

  27. 49

2.02 True Names and Other Dangers

People's names are difficult for computers. Speaking of names, Dylan and Rendle talk about splitting full names into first and last, Skulduggery Pleasant, Nvidia graphics cards that have given up on rendering polygons and just guess what the screen should look like instead, and a new DOOM mod that... well, listen to the episode.

  28. 48

    2.01 Oh No, Not Again

Yay, 2025! What exciting things are Dylan and Mark looking forward to this year? What did they like about last year? What were the chat looking forward to? Which singer has the greatest vocal range? All these questions and more are answered in the first episode of season 2.

  29. 47

    Xmas Special

It's Boxing Day in the UK which means every TV channel will be showing some super boring film at 4pm, so why not join us for a chat instead? (It's probably not Boxing Day now but you can listen to the recording anyway)

  30. 46

    NDC Bursting Bubbles

Dylan is once more adrift in the luminiferous aether so Eli once more steps into the breach to talk to Rendle about AI bubbles, gaming nostalgia and other matters of great pitch and moment

  31. 45

    Two Score and Six: Them

Dylan is on an intergalactic cruise in his office, so Rendle is joined by the wonderful Eli Holderness to talk about whatever they've found interesting this week.

Mark is going to use Kotlin, Dylan is handling errors in Rockstar, and Bluesky is properly taking off at last.

Mark is in Malmö for Øredev, Dylan isn’t, stuff shall be discussed…

  34. 42

    1.43 Berlin Blogs and Bluesky

We both just got back from KanDDDinsky in Berlin and at least one of us is already checked in for their next flight... but hey, that's not until tomorrow, so let's do a podcast!

  35. 41

    00101010 Prime Nonsense

No idea what we're talking about in this one but I expect it will be the usual stream-of-bobbins that you know and love.

  36. 40

    1.40 The Games Geekout

Mark and Dylan are both busy this week so here's one we made earlier, geeking out about games we like and stuff.

  37. 39

    I.XXXIX Mercurial Cores

Dylan and Mark talk about the ongoing WP Engine vs WordPress saga; a variant on the Y2K bug; more unethical AI; and the mystery of the "mercurial cores".

  38. 38

0x26 WinAmp is Open Source... Kinda

WinAmp have released the source code for the legacy player but it's not exactly... open. Dylan and Mark about using AI to generate podcasts, and how AI coding assistants will be better when you can actually talk to them, the current fracas in the WordPress community, and how those "Star Wars in 1950s Panavision" videos you keep seeing on YouTube are made. Dylan uses a naughty word in this one.

  39. 37

1.37 Code Reviews and other news with Hannes Lowette

Dylan's on another aeroplane so fellow Linebreaker Hannes joins Mark to talk about positive code reviews and the conversation just kind of rambles on from there really

  40. 36

    1.36 CHIPS IN SPAAAAACE

NASA have decided that the transistors in the Europa Clipper are hardcore enough to survive Jupiter's radiation, plus whatever else we talked about, Spotify lost the upload originally and I can't remember.

  41. 35

    1.35 Fun with Program Committees

Mark's just finished 2 days of selecting and curating talks for NDC London 2025 and shares some tips for persuading committee members to pick you. Dylan's been making courses and trying to juggle 14 other balls at the same time.

  42. 34

1.34 Live from the Copenhagen Developers Festival

CPH DevFest gave us a stage and an audience to record this week's podcast, so we repaid them by doing one of our usual random, meandering conversations.

  43. 33

    1.33 Dylan's Getting Older

It's Dylan's birthday and he's spending it doing homework for the Copenhagen Developers' Festival next week. Meanwhile Mark wants to know why developing for Apple hardware is so difficult.

  44. 32

1.32 That's 2^5! Powers of two are cool.

32 episodes! Such a lovely round number that Mark slept through it and Dylan had to fill an hour of airtime on his own, which he does magnificently.

  45. 31

1.31 A Wild Kevlin Henney Has Appeared!

Dylan's on a train this week so the excellent Kevlin Henney joins Mark to talk about legacy code, bitrot, and the inevitable displacement of big, old companies by fast-moving start-ups.

  46. 30

1.30 Parsers and Beta Testers and Deadpool and Wolverine

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE Dylan's getting ready to ship Rockstar 2, Mark's built a sort of electric cloud-based space clipboard, and we've both seen Deadpool and Wolverine and intend to SPOILER THE HECK out of it so if you haven't seen it maybe watch this one later.

  47. 29

    1.29 CROWDSTRUCK BY THE CYBER!

Well, gosh, we have absolutely NO IDEA what we might talk about this week in a weekly podcast about the week's events in the world of technology. Not a clue. Nope. Oh, and also a fun bit about the NSA having a tape of Grace Hopper they won't release 'cos they don't have a tape deck to watch it on that we were going to talk about last week but we ran out of time. And Mark and Dylan compare their workstations and monitor arrangements and stuff.

  48. 28

    1.28 Terminate Batch Job (Y/N)?

Dylan's been having huge amounts of fun with C#, WASM, Ruby and JavaScript - all at the same time! Mark's been building a new thing, playing with the Meta Quest 3 and finally watching the latest Indiana Jones movie, although not at the same time.

  49. 27

1.27 Drumless Daft Punk, Smart Rings and the electric Ford Capri

Dylan's been at home working on Rockstar 2 and enjoying Tidal's musical recommendations. Mark's been trying to work with an AMQP API using the wrong PDF document, wondering what a smart ring is, and Ford's turned the Capri into an electric SUV. And folding phones and AR headsets are like super-conducting hoverboards.

  50. 26

1.26 Lezer Grammars and Democracy Sausages

Oh no, I completely forgot to upload this episode last week. Sorry. Also the title is what we used on YouTube for the recording but I don't remember talking about Lezer Grammars or Democracy Sausages, although we definitely did talk about quantum crosswords, Arduinos and that scouse baby.
