Autism Diagnosis: A real story of early signs, regression, and what parents aren’t prepared for

Welcome to The Bry and Samua Show! In this episode, we go from hilarious real-life chaos to one of the most personal and important conversations we’ve ever had. We start off exactly how you’d expect from us—laughing through real life. From wigs and recovery life after a bone marrow transplant, to trying to feel like yourself again after a major health journey, to the reality of navigating everyday life when things don’t go as planned. Then we dive into an unforgettable Disney girls trip filled with nonstop laughter, inside jokes, costumes, and a 10-mile race that was anything but relaxing. If you’ve ever taken a “vacation” that left you completely exhausted, overstimulated, and wondering how you need a vacation from your vacation… you will absolutely relate to this. But then… this episode takes a turn. What starts as light, funny, and chaotic quickly shifts into something much deeper. We transition into one of the most personal parts of Samua’s life as she begins sharing the story of Naomi—her daughter—and the journey to an autism diagnosis. What started as subtle changes around 18 months old slowly turned into a growing realization that something wasn’t right. Even when instincts were strong, those concerns were initially dismissed by doctors and labeled as “normal phases,” something many parents hear but don’t always feel is true. We talk honestly and openly about: • Early signs of autism and developmental regression in toddlers • The emotional toll of not being heard as a parent • Trusting your gut when something feels off • What autism looked like 15+ years ago compared to today • The lack of guidance families often receive after a diagnosis • The impact on marriage, friendships, and family dynamics • How a diagnosis can completely reshape your life in ways you never expect This is not just a conversation about autism—it’s a conversation about parenting, intuition, resilience, and navigating the unknown. One of the hardest realities we share is this: getting an autism diagnosis is only the beginning. Many families are left without clear direction, resources, or support. Even today, parents are often handed a diagnosis and expected to figure out therapies, insurance, education plans, and next steps on their own. It can feel overwhelming, isolating, and exhausting. We also reflect on how much has changed—and how much hasn’t. While awareness has grown, there are still major gaps in support, communication, and real guidance for families walking this journey for the first time. If you are a parent, caregiver, educator, or someone connected to autism in any way, this episode will resonate with you. And if you’re here simply because you love real, honest, unfiltered conversations about life, friendship, and motherhood—you’re in the right place. This episode is just the beginning. In Part 2, we go even deeper into what we’ve learned over the past 15+ years—what actually helps, what doesn’t, the therapies and approaches we’ve explored, and the things no one tells you when you’re first starting this journey. Is Everyone Losing Their Minds Right Now?!? -- Politics, Social Media and Bad Bunny

What happens when two friends sit down and have an honest conversation about the chaos of the world right now? In this episode of The Bry and Samua Show, Bry and Samua go deep into the cultural climate, media narratives, political division, parenting challenges, and the importance of reconnecting with real human relationships. Recorded on location at the Cleveland Clinic, Bry shares a powerful update about recovering from a bone marrow transplant and the unexpected perspective that comes from stepping away from constant news and social media. Sometimes the best reset for your mental health is simply unplugging. At the same time, Samua opens up about something deeply personal happening at home. After taking emergency custody of a young family member, she and her husband are navigating the realities of parenting a child who has experienced trauma and instability. The conversation dives into the challenges of raising children with accountability, structure, and compassion when they come from very different circumstances. But the heart of this episode explores something many people are feeling right now: exhaustion with constant outrage, media narratives, and political division. Bry and Samua talk about: • Why the Super Bowl halftime controversy and Bad Bunny debate became a cultural flashpoint • How social media and news cycles amplify division between people • The role of AI, misinformation, and headlines in shaping public perception • Why Americans increasingly feel pressure to choose sides politically • The danger of labeling people instead of having real conversations • Why communities used to work together despite political differences • How media outrage cycles keep people emotionally reactive • The impact of constantly consuming news, politics, and social media conflict • The importance of stepping back and focusing on family, health, and relationships The episode also explores a powerful idea: most people fall into the middle of the “human bell curve.” Most individuals are simply trying to live decent lives, support their families, and contribute positively to their communities. But today’s media and online culture often make it feel like everyone is an enemy. Bry shares how taking a break from the constant news cycle during recovery has dramatically improved mental clarity and even lowered blood pressure. Sometimes the healthiest choice is simply to step away from the noise. Samua also reflects on her experiences as an immigrant and how stories around immigration, politics, and media coverage can be very different depending on personal perspective and lived experience. Ultimately, this episode is about rediscovering something simple but powerful: connection. You don’t have to agree with everyone to respect them. You don’t have to share the same politics to build community. And sometimes the strongest response to division is simply choosing curiosity and conversation instead of outrage. At the end of the day, Bry and Samua challenge listeners to do something simple but radical: Turn down the noise, connect with people in real life, and focus on the things we actually can control. Because the truth is — the only thing stronger than hate is love. If you enjoy real conversations about life, culture, relationships, health, parenting, and navigating the chaos of the modern world, you’re in the right place. From relationships and parenting to health, culture, running, and current events, Bry and Samua tackle real life with humor, perspective, and authenticity. We explore the conversations people are already having behind closed doors, the ones that deserve to be talked about openly. From Taboo to Intimacy: Let’s Talk about Sex - Unlearning Shame. Healing Intimacy

Grief. Marriage. Faith. Sex. And the Conversations Nobody Wants to Have.In this bold, honest, and surprisingly funny episode of The Bry & Samua Show, we dive into a topic that’s often whispered about—but rarely unpacked with real vulnerability: sex in marriage, intimacy after trauma, and why culture (and sometimes the church) gets it so wrong. What happens to your sex life after kids? After divorce? After sexual trauma? After years of believing it’s “taboo” to even talk about desire?Samua shares openly about her history with sexual abuse, the complicated messages she received growing up in the church, and how those experiences shaped her early relationships and first marriage. She talks candidly about how sex became transactional, how guilt and shame distorted connection, and what it took to unlearn those patterns.Bri reflects on the “honeymoon phase” myth, the cultural narrative that intimacy inevitably fades, and why she refuses to accept that marriage means boredom. Together, they explore how emotional safety, communication, and intentional connection can transform intimacy from obligation into something vibrant—even after six kids, blended family stress, court drama, and real life chaos. We also talk about:• Why so many couples stop flirting after they’re married• The difference between feeling connected and feeling desired• How faith communities often mishandle conversations about sex• Why “making it a priority” doesn’t mean forcing it• Date nights, day dates, and protecting your marriage• The myth that only men want sex• Reclaiming sexuality after trauma• Keeping things fresh (yes… including a cheeky Vegas story 👀)• Cultural differences around nudity and shame• Why open communication matters more than frequencyThis episode is raw, funny, a little awkward at times—and deeply important. We believe healthy marriages include healthy conversations about intimacy. Not from a crude or explicit standpoint, but from a relational one. Because sex isn’t just physical—it’s emotional, psychological, spiritual, and deeply tied to how safe we feel with our partner. If you’ve ever:– Felt disconnected in your marriage– Wondered why intimacy changed after kids– Struggled with religious guilt around sexuality– Experienced sexual trauma and felt confused about desire– Bought into the idea that “this is just how marriage becomes”…this conversation is for you.Marriage doesn’t have to default to “birthday-only.” It doesn’t have to become contractual. It doesn’t have to fade into resentment or silence. But it does require intention, honesty, laughter, and sometimes uncomfortable conversations. We’re not therapists. We’re just two women willing to talk about the stuff people pretend isn’t happening. If this episode resonates with you, please:👍 Like the video🔔 Subscribe to the channel💬 Comment your thoughts (respectfully!)📤 Share with a friend who needs to hear thisWe talk about everything on this show—from race prep and parenting to addiction, faith, grief, and real marriage. Life be Life-ing - Loss, Leukemia, Adoption & more. When life hits hard… and Disney still delivers a little extra magic

Life doesn’t pause when things get hard — it just keeps stacking. In this episode of The Bry & Samua Show, we sit down for one of our most honest, layered conversations yet, covering grief, addiction, loss, the leukemia journey, unexpected adoption, and why joy still shows up in the most unexpected places (yes… even at Disney). We open with the reality of loving someone through addiction and the heartbreak of losing them despite doing “everything right.” Bry shares the painful experience of supporting her brother-in-law through alcoholism — the hope that comes with sobriety, the fine line between helping and enabling, and the heavy truth that you can’t want recovery more than someone else wants it for themselves. If you’ve ever lived with the constant fear of “that call,” this conversation will feel painfully familiar. From there, we move into grief that was anticipated but still devastating — because knowing something is coming never actually prepares you for it. Samua shares the sudden loss of a beloved family member and how quickly life shifted into caretaking mode, stepping in to provide stability for a five-year-old whose entire world changed overnight. We talk about guardianship, blended families, and what it means to say yes to responsibility even when you feel completely unprepared. We also share a major health update as Bry walks through the next phase of her leukemia journey, including maintenance chemo, finding a bone marrow match, preparing for transplant, and the surreal reality of rebuilding an immune system from scratch. We talk honestly about fear, hope, science, isolation, and how time feels completely warped when you’re living appointment to appointment. And because this is real life — and because laughter is part of survival — we balance the heavy with moments of joy. From RunDisney memories and marathon chaos to Disney moments that remind us we’re still alive, still connected, and still allowed to enjoy each other even in the middle of the mess. Life doesn’t wait until things are perfect, and neither do we. This episode is for anyone navigating grief, caregiving, illness, addiction, or sudden change — and wondering how you’re supposed to keep going when everything hits at once. We don’t have perfect answers, but we do believe in showing up, being honest, and finding light wherever it sneaks in. Running the Dopey Challenge: What 48.6 Miles at Disney Is REALLY Like | RunDisney Marathon

Welcome to this bonus crossover episode with the MindBodyMarathon Podcast—recorded in Orlando, the Monday after the Dopey Challenge. In this episode, Dr. Leo and his wife Samua break down what it’s really like to take on 48.6 miles of Disney magic in four days: the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon (Thursday through Sunday mornings) during RunDisney Marathon Weekend. If you’ve ever wondered whether the Dopey Challenge is doable (especially if you don’t even love running), this conversation is for you. We talk about the true “boss battle” of the weekend—waking up at brutal early hours—and how the Dopey experience feels completely different from a traditional road marathon. From costumes and crowd energy to pacing, cutoff strategy, and the infamous “balloon ladies,” this episode is packed with real-world tips and honest takes. You’ll hear how we used the character stop strategy as a mental game-changer—treating the next character like the next mile marker—plus what it’s like running Disney’s long access roads between parks, where the flat, open sightlines can make time pass faster than you’d expect. We also share a rare Disney Marathon flex: stopping to ride attractions mid-race, including Expedition Everest and Tower of Terror, and why that hits different when your heart rate is already sky-high.This episode also gets personal: why we ran “for a purpose,” the creativity and community of RunDisney, and the story of bringing a friend along in Flat Stanley-style with posters and costumes (with a little help from ChatGPT). We wrap with a needed reminder about race etiquette: be gracious, assume positive intent, and let people have their moment—because at Disney, everyone’s chasing their own kind of finish line.📌 Topics include: Dopey Challenge breakdown • RunDisney strategy • character stops • costumes • cutoffs • crowd energy • riding rides mid-marathon • expo/merch virtual queue • running/walking dynamics • why Disney gets non-runners to run🎧 More from MindBodyMarathon and Dr. Leo:Check out Dr. Leo’s book “Faster Without Fail: Your Guide to Overcoming Injuries and Running Faster Than Ever” (available on Amazon)YouTube: Running Rehab for running form tips, injury prevention, and rehab exercises#RunDisney #DopeyChallenge #DisneyMarathon #MindBodyMarathon #RunningPodcast #MarathonWeekend #WaltDisneyWorldMarathon #RunningTips #GallowayMethod #RunWalking #EnduranceTraining #DisneyRaces #MarathonTraining #RunningMotivation #FasterWithoutFailCome for the laughs, stay for the truth bombs! Grace over Goals: Starting 2026 without a Perfect Plan

Welcome back to The Bry & Samua Show — and welcome to 2026. If the last few years have felt like five years crammed into two… you’re not alone. In this episode, Bry and Samua sit down for a real, unfiltered conversation about starting a new year when life doesn’t “reset” on January 1st — and when plans can be rewritten overnight. We talk about the “before COVID / after COVID” feeling, how time has felt distorted since 2020, and why years like 2018 and 2019 feel like a different lifetime. As always, the conversation moves from deep reflection to laughter and nostalgia — the kind that makes you feel like you’re sitting with friends.Yes… we talk NSYNC vs Backstreet Boys, first concerts, lawn seats, parking lot chaos, and the moment your favorite songs suddenly land on the oldies station. We also talk about the power of live music — not just arena shows, but small venues — and why shared experiences matter for mental health. But this episode isn’t just nostalgic. It’s about how to move forward when life is heavy.Bry is currently walking through a leukemia diagnosis that arrived suddenly in early November — and it changed everything. If you’ve ever had life flip upside down without warning, you’ll understand the core theme of this episode:You can’t always control what happens — but you can choose how you respond.Bry shares what it’s like to enter a new year without a clear timeline, while waiting for a bone marrow transplant, navigating treatment, and balancing rest with the desire to stay strong. This part of the conversation is for anyone facing a health crisis, major uncertainty, sudden life disruption, or emotional exhaustion and pressure to “stay positive.”We keep it real: you can still have hope without pretending it’s easy, and you can still plan without turning your plan into a prison. We talk about New Year’s resolutions and why the all-or-nothing mindset usually fails. Instead of treating January 1st like a reset button, we suggest using the new year as a checkpoint: what worked, what didn’t, and what you want more or less of.One key truth: When you fall off — don’t quit. You don’t need to wait until next year or next Monday. You restart from where you are, with the energy you have. Samua shares how this shows up in endurance training — celebrating progress even when the plan isn’t perfect. Consistency isn’t perfection. Consistency is resilience. We explore family dynamics and boundaries, especially when people don’t show up the way we hope. Boundaries don’t always mean cutting people off; sometimes they’re quiet, practical, and intentional. We also reflect on the “Let Them” idea — including the harder part: letting people love and support you. Healing isn’t just about cutting people off. It’s about learning how to be okay inside yourself, regardless of what others choose.2026 doesn’t have to be perfect. It can be a year of intention, growth, healing, and grace.Choose one thing to grow in — a habit, a boundary, a class, a conversation, or a step.Small steps add up.Drop a comment:• Are you making New Year’s resolutions this year?• What’s one thing you want to grow in during 2026?• Has life ever rewritten your timeline? If this episode made you feel less alone: Like, subscribe, and share with someone who needs encouragement. We’re excited to be in 2026 with you — choosing to keep moving forward together. 💛Hosted on Ausha. Leukemia Changed Everything: From Dopey Training to Hospital to Remission

Welcome back to The Bry & Samua Show — we’re Bri and Samua, and if you’re new here, this is your seat at the table for real-life conversations: the messy stuff, the funny stuff, the heartbreaking stuff, the “how is this even happening?” stuff… and the moments that remind you you’re stronger than you think. We’ve been sharing episodes around the Dopey Challenge and the Disney race world because it’s been consuming our time, our energy, our calendars, our group texts, and honestly our sanity (in the most fun and chaotic way). But today’s episode is different. This one is deeper. It’s more personal. It’s the kind of conversation that reminds you why this podcast exists in the first place. Because life doesn’t pause just because you finally launched the thing you’ve been talking about forever. We had been planning and talking about starting this podcast for a long time — literally since August 2024 — and like most people, we kept pushing it off for “good reasons.” Work, kids, schedules, travel, the million plates we’re juggling… all the normal stuff that makes you say, “We’ll do it next month.” Then we finally etched it in stone. We were like, no more delaying. We’re launching. We’re recording. We’re posting. We’re showing up. And then… the day we launched, BS hit — and yes, that’s ironic because our initials are literally B.S. and we have truly dealt with a lot of BS in life. But in this episode, the BS isn’t just “life chaos” or “things not going as planned.” It’s not a scheduling issue or a stressful week or even a disappointing moment. It’s the kind of thing that knocks the breath out of you. In this episode, Bri shares how what seemed like a stubborn sore throat turned into something no one expects to hear: leukemia. What followed was a whirlwind: hospital stays, the Cleveland Clinic, intense treatment, living inside a routine that feels like Groundhog Day, being surrounded by numbers and labs and medications, and still trying to hold onto yourself — your humor, your hope, your identity — while your body is fighting a battle you didn’t see coming. If you’re here because you or someone you love is going through a health crisis, cancer treatment, leukemia treatment, or a diagnosis that feels impossible — we want you to know right now: you’re not alone. And if you’re here because you feel like life has been heavy, disappointing, exhausting, or unfair… if you feel like you’re struggling to keep your head above water… you’re also not alone. This is what we’re about: telling the truth about life, without sugarcoating it — and also without losing the ability to laugh, connect, and keep moving forward. What this episode is really about Yes, we talk about leukemia. We talk about the shock of hearing it out loud. We talk about the hospital reality and how quickly the Cleveland Clinic moved once they identified what was happening. We talk about what it’s like when your body suddenly becomes a numbers game — platelets, labs, white blood cells, and waiting on “good enough” numbers to go home. But we also talk about bigger things: The difference between real resilience and toxic positivity Why you’re allowed to cry, rage, fall apart, and still be strong Why “life is good” doesn’t mean “life is perfect” How friendships and family can carry you through the worst moments How sometimes the thing you thought you were training for… prepared you for something else entirely Why you have to advocate for your health when you know something isn’t right Why hard moments don’t mean you’re failing — they mean you’re human This episode includes humor, honesty, raw feelings, and the kind of truth you usually only share with your closest people… except we’re sharing it here because we know someone out there needs it.
