The Educated Cowgirl Podcast!
by Abby Carpenter
Educating the equine industry to bring us closer together as a community! I have always been passionate about promoting the equine industry and helping to inspire the next generation of horsemen and women. One of my main goals with this podcast is to provide new learning opportunities to grow their and my own knowledge of other disciplines, breeds, and several different topics that they are not apart of or no nothing about! I want to open people's minds to continue to learn more about horses and the industry to help continue their education as we are always learning and growing! I also want to help bridge the gap between the different worlds we seem to have created within the industry.

Happy New Year! Ending 2025 with a Bang and Looking to The Future of Lesson Programs in the Equine Industry with Christy Landwehr
Send us Fan MailOn today's episode, it seems only fitting to talk about the future on New Year's Eve. I sat down and talked with Christy Landwehr who is very well accredited Master Riding Instructor and NRHA Sponsorship Director to name a few of her titles. Lesson programs play such a vital role for so many riders in the equine industry and a lot of us can remember that first lesson pony or horse we rode for the first time that we fell in love with and who changed our lives forever! In this episode, Christy and I discuss how what defines a lesson horse today has changed and how trainers in specific disciplines can do more to introduce new riders to the sport of riding. How open and honest communication between instructors and parents is essential to the safety of the student and for the running of the instructor's business, how thinking creatively can help attract parents to lesson programs and so many more topics. As we look into the 2026 and all the hopes and goals we have for the year, it is important to be having these type of conversations to remember that a student's first experience in the saddle is positive for them to continue to grow and thrive in the industry! Send us Fan MailToday's episode comes to you the day after my birthday and at the start of 4th of July weekend! I am joined by two returning guests this week Christa Lafayette and Laura Simiele of Etalon to introduce some exciting additions to their programs, the new research they have found and published about Roan Horses, and the launch of their July Promo! Roan horses are so uniquely beautiful with their eye-catching appearance and they have a long history in many different breeds of horses. Send us Fan MailWe made it! We have reached 20 episodes of The Educated Cowgirl Podcast! Thank you so much for all the support and for listening to the show! I love bringing new episodes and amazing conversations that impact the Equine Industry! For today's episode, I know it's coming to you on a Monday instead of a Thursday like usual, but I have a very special one for you! As I am sharing an amazing conversation I had with two ladies that have so much love and passion for the equine industry, the horse, and the community! When this episode comes out it will have been about a week since the 2024 Legends of Ranching Performance Horse Sale concluded at Colorado State University where history was made with the highest selling horse ever in the sale's history so far, and larger sales numbers overall for the program! Which credits so much to the belief and hard work put in by all the students, instructors, and other faculty to make it great! In the episode you will hear from Jenna Hammel who trained this beautiful bay colt Poco 21 aka Benji all year and her journey with him as well as what the program and everyone has meant to her along the way! Also, her plans for the future post-graduation! You will also hear from one of the incredible instructors that helped her along the way, Alex Parsaye who is new to the CSU instructor role, but not new to the program or the University! Alex shares her love for the program, her students, her colleagues, and her hopes for the future of the program! I had so much fun talking with these ladies and loved hearing Jenna's story with Benji, the LOR program, and so much more! We share a few laughs in the episode as we are three horse loving gals who are excited about the industry, this program, and most importantly the horse! You can find more information about the LOR program on instagram @legendsofranching and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/legendsofranchingIf you would like to follow Jenna on Instagram she is @jennahammelSupport the showConnect with Abby and The Educated Cowgirl: Follow on Instagram @theeducatedcowgirl and @theabbymae2 Follow on Facebook @theeducatedcowgirlFollow on Tiktok @abbymaeTECCheck out the websiteDon't miss an episode so don't forget to follow the show or sign up for the email newsletter!

018. Equine Nutrition 101 with Equine Nutritionist Dr. Jyme Nichols aka the Feed Room Chemist!
Send us Fan MailOn today's episode, I am sharing a very educational and important conversation I had with someone who has dedicated her life and career to helping owners improve their horse's nutrition, to help them make the connection between the research side and what they see on feed store shelves. You may also know her from her own podcast the Feed Room Chemist and if you haven't, you should check it out! Dr. Jyme Nichols from Bluebonnet Feeds truly shows her heart for helping owners and the important topics that affect equine nutrition. This is such an important topic that we as riders, trainers, and owners need to learn more about as there is a lot of misinformation in today's digital world from people who claim to be equine nutrition experts, but don't actually have the credentials to make informed decisions about a horse's feeding plan. It is also important that we understand these nutrition concepts because the more we as owners can be informed about it the better the equine industry will be as a whole for animal welfare and proper, responsible horse care.I learned so much from our conversation, not only some new terms like what NSC stands for, but also what I should be looking for in creating a feeding plan for my own horse and more. I hope you enjoy this episode and you will definitely want to take notes for this one! You can find Dr. Jyme on social media on Facebook and Instagram @drjyme. If you are interested in learning more about bluebonnet and working with their nutrition consultants you can email them at [email protected]! *You may notice some audio issues in the episode as I had some microphone issues that I didn't find until post recording and I did my best to fix them, but some may still be there, but it shouldn't affect the quality of information I provide in this episode. 11. Getting Curious About the Equine Industry with AQHA Professional Horsewoman Lainie Deboer!
Send us Fan MailHey y'all! I have another great episode that you will love! So if you have listened since the beginning or this is your first episode you know that apart of my mission behind starting this show is to promote the industry, but also to help bridge the gap between different disciplines and breeds! When we start out with horses or taking lessons we often start with one way or riding or breed and without even realizing it we can tend to close ourselves off in the bubble at times. I am guilty of that at times as well. However, when we do that that puts in our minds to believe the stereotypes we hear about barrel racers, dressage riders, jumpers, and more. Which only further drives us apart. We can grow so much as a horse community when we learn from each other and get curious to learn from someone outside our barn and that can help to bring more new people in! Well that is exactly part of what I talk about with my amazing guest Lainie Deboer who is an accomplished horsewoman in the hunter/jumper and AQHA circuits! Her voice for bringing in new ideas into the industry are fantastic and she is someone I have looked up to for a long time! I can't wait for you to hear our conversation! 08. The Barbie Movie and Women in the Equine Industry!
Send us Fan MailI took away so many thoughts and opinions after seeing The Barbie Movie starring Margot Robbie! It is such a powerful statement that needs to be made in 2023 and I have seen the reviews from those who have closed their minds to the views Greta Gerwig worked hard to try and show in this movie and unfortunately their are those who don't see that! However, I see a lot of parallels between women in the horse industry and the commentary this movie was trying to make about how we as women are seen in this world! Although, we see a lot of women working and riding in this world we still get overshadowed by men!We have come along way in society as women in terms of career and life, but we struggle to be taken seriously and been seen as more than horse crazy little girls!Barbie movie showed us that it is okay to be seen as a professional, but to enjoy the freedom and beauty of being a woman without the pressures to be put into a box men like to put us in! Anyone who says that this movie isn't a true representation of women in society today needs to watch it again with and really listen to what they are saying! This movie also inspired me about how I found my niche for how I want to promote my podcast and the horse industry and stand out among the other equine podcasts!I hope this week's podcast episode inspired you and sparks your own conversations about this topic! As always you can find me on Tiktok, Instagram, and Facebook @theeducatedcowgirl!Stay Blessed and Ride on Cowgirls!Support the showConnect with Abby and The Educated Cowgirl: Follow on Instagram @theeducatedcowgirl and @theabbymae2 Follow on Facebook @theeducatedcowgirlFollow on Tiktok @abbymaeTECCheck out the websiteDon't miss an episode so don't forget to follow the show or sign up for the email newsletter!

02. Pursuing your Passions while finding balance from God and your support system with Kelcey McNamee!
Send us Fan MailOn this week's episode I am talking to one of my dear friends Kelcey McNamee she is a wife, a momma, a cowgirl, and a barrel racer. She truly embodies what it means to put everything into your passions and your goals. Kelcey inspires me with how she is trusting God with the path He has set before her on this journey, but remembering that that is only part of who God made her to be. "This is what we do it does not define who we are." She is exactly who I thought of for you to hear from when I started this podcast as she understands the big picture of what it takes to grow the industry and keep it strong for future generations. It takes everyone working together in order for the community to grow and succeed. That there is no shame in asking for help when you need it and that money doesn't always buy you the world championship or title! If you have a calling on your heart from God and a strong work ethic there is nothing you cannot do! I had so much fun talking to Kelcey in this episode and I hope you take away just as much as I did from our conversation. I also hope you feel inspired by her story!
