    Welcome to “The Fanatic Fulcrum,” a central hub where students, staff, faculty and people outside of Sacramento State alike can tackle the tough issues of today through a local news outlet.Oftentimes in journalism a source might be a professional in a field. CNN interviews Dr. Anthony Fauci about COVID-19 and Tony Hawk about skateboarding, but what if a doctor is also an authority on “Game of Thrones” or cosplaying? How might they scratch that itch?Answer: The Fanatic Fulcrum.This episode focuses on cosplay with an emphasis on how certain costumes can be gender bended or how a cosplayer themselves can dress up as a character of opposite or no sex without making alterations to the character at all. Copy editor Alex Muegge interviews Jaymes Gyurics, an English major who is also a frequent attendee of SacAnime. From characters like Bruno Bucciarati from the anime “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” and Mettaton from the game “Undertale,” Gyurics has tackled a lot of costumes to challenge their heteronormative stereotype. Gyurics also talks about convention culture and how increasingly places like SacAnime are hounding into their patrons the phrase “cosplay is not consent.”Theme by Jackson Stafford.

This podcast is for fans to express themselves. Oftentimes in journalism a source might be a professional in a field. CNN interviews Dr. Anthony Fauci about COVID-19 and Tony Hawk about skateboarding, but what if a doctor is also an authority on “Game of Thrones” or cosplaying? How might they scratch that itch?Answer: The Fanatic Fulcrum.This episode focuses on theater with an emphasis on musicals. Copy editor Alex Muegge hosts Gillian Rains, a theatre major who sought out the drama department in high school only to continue through her college career. From characters like the baker’s wife in “Into the Woods” to Carrie in “Carrie: the Musical,” Rains said the theater environment led her to discover more about herself and her own gender identity.Rains said she has a lot of “hot takes,” including a controversial perspective on the “And Peggy” tour of Hamilton that recently left Sacramento for San Jose then Reno, where the cast currently performs.To some extent, Rains said shows can sometimes take a toll on her mental health depending on their subject matter and because of this she is currently taking a hiatus from theater. Theme by Jackson Stafford.

    Welcome to the Halloween special of “The Fanatic Fulcrum.” This podcast was made exclusively for fans to express themselves.Oftentimes in journalism a source might be a professional in a field. How might they scratch that itch?Answer: The Fanatic Fulcrum.Hosted by Alex Muegge, this episode focuses exclusively on horror films and Muegge interviews film enthusiast and YouTuber Zo Crawford and The State Hornet’s visuals editor Ayaana Williams. Crawford and Williams both attended San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California and received respective associate’s degrees in radio and television. From there, Crawford started his YouTube channel with Williams making the edits. In this episode they discuss a plethora of horror films starting from “Halloween”’ (1978), “Scream” (1996),“The Conjuring” (2013) and Stephen King’s “It” (2017). Copy editor Alex Muegge hosts Nicholas Laschkewitsch, a mechanical engineer who formerly interned at Walt Disney Imagineering and worked on rides like Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. A member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts, Laschkewitsch also edits, produces and directs documentaries in his spare time and created “Legacy of Arrow,” a film about Arrow Development, the revolutionary company whose engineering designs contributed greatly to how amusement park rides look and operate today.
