Moderate physical activity is known to offer protective benefits against COPD exacerbations, but exposure to air pollution is a well-established risk factor for COPD. In many high-pollution settings, it has been unclear whether engaging in physical exercise is beneficial for COPD outcomes. In this episode, we speak with Dr. Peter Chan and Dr. Xi Xia to understand how long-term exposure to ambient air pollutants can modify the protective effect of physical activity on COPD hospitalisation. In the past decade, Latin America experienced major changes in its migration patterns. Historically, most international migration in the region has been motivated by the search of employment, and occurs between adjacent countries, or from countries within the region to high-income countries such as the United States and Spain. Recently, however, increased numbers of forcibly displaced people have left their countries and traveled longer distances, in many cases by foot, in order to reach safety or escape poverty.
