The Last Take

In this podcast of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications Esports Media Day, presented by Red Herring Concepts, Visit Lincoln and Pepsi Cola of Lincoln, host Dylan Jurgens sat down with the McCook, Alma and Wayne high school esports teams to discuss experiences, visibility and passion for competitive gaming. Each conversation explores how each team got started in esports and where the players first got involved in esports. Each team also shares what Esports Media Day means to them in terms of visibility and recognition within the broader esports community, as well as their overall impressions of the event itself. Throughout the interviews, players open up how they've built a strong team bond while maintaining mental toughness through adversity. They also reflect on the importance of resilience and staying focused when things don't go as planned. As the season winds down, the team leaves Esports Media Day with a renewed sense of purpose, reflecting on how far they've come and what lies ahead. With competitive goals firmly in sight, these young athletes prove that esports is more than just gaming, it's about the teamwork, dedication and carving out a place in a fast-growing area in Nebraska high school activities. 

Dylan and Blake are joined by Elijah Herbel, radio host and producer at 1240 KFOR, notably for the Average Joes Sports Show. Herbel talks about his path into radio broadcasting starting with his time at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism. Then, they talk about the chaos going down in State College after James Franklin was fired. Finally, they discuss Huskers-Gophers. 

Dylan and Blake are joined by JP Kyhn or JPOnKX, the public address announcer for Nebraska Men's Basketball games at Pinnacle Bank Arena and is a host of the JP Coryelle and Husker Nick show on KX96, a country radio station in the Lincoln area. They talk about JP's career thus far, Huskers athletics, and a little bit of pop culture.
