The Person Everyone Needs

You are a person that somebody needs. God has put something in you that needs to shine.

Jesus is recorded as saying "Take Heart" multiple times some 1,000 years after Jonathan. This phrase encompasses many different things to check in your life, which we explore on today's episode.

Today we learn about what it means to be strong and courageous, which is often what follows the statement, "do not be afraid" in the Bible.

There is a strength that comes when we find what makes us come to life. But, we must prepare so that we're ready when the time comes to do what we were made for.

Jonathan was a man of valor, which means a strength of mind or spirit. We can trust God in hard times to give us a strength we may not have thought was possible.

Even after Samuel foretells the end of Saul's reign as king, Jonathan continues to live as a leader and a warrior. He devastates a Philistine army with only his armor-bearer and one sword, which sparks a rally of his army to victory. Although the complete victory was stalled by Saul's incompetence, Jonathan's courage was established.

Remember that God is for you. He has a plan for you and will help you discover your identity in Him if you walk in His steps.

God has a plan for your life. He can take any pain or circumstance and make it better through His plan.

Jonathan's legacy was vast, but his biggest part was how he invested in David. Your legacy is marked by the souls that your thumbprints are on.

Jonathan's friendship and investment into David changed the course of history, and left a legacy no one would have predicted.

As the first King and Prince of Israel, Saul and Jonathan quickly veer towards different paths. Saul never quite understands the weight of his role, while Jonathan becomes a great warrior despite finding out he will never take his father's place.

Jonathan received undeserved favor when he became a prince, and used it to increase his kingdom. Since God has granted each of us undeserved favor, we can also use it for good - to increase His kingdom.

Entering our fourth year, we revisit the motivation for The Person Everyone Needs and hear a renewed introduction to Jonathan.

Being a person that someone else needs doesn't have to take a lot. Basic things in life - like real connections with others - are often more fulfilling than anything fancy or exotic. You can start by just seeing and meeting someone's need to be heard, and who knows what that can grow into!

It doesn't take much to encourage someone in a way they'll never forget. A small gesture to show someone you believe in them can change their entire life!

In our lives, we must be intentional about listening over speaking. We must prioritize listening to the Holy Spirit and wise council before we should speak into others' lives.

Be a person who is fulfilled by seeing others succeed and knowing you played a part - without needing the credit for it.

The spine of a book gives you a glimpse of what will be inside. Does the spine of your life's book portray you accurately? If it is not the way you'd like it to be, are you working to write a new volume?

Grace: it makes us grateful, it moves us towards humility, and it builds momentum in the direction we want to go.

Character Matters. You can rise to fame with your talents, but if you have bad character that is revealed then everything can be ruined. Develop traits in your life like modesty, humility, loyalty, and patience.

Parenting is more about modeling the right behavior than we often realize. Becoming who you want to be will show your child how to do the same. Sometimes, that can start with a simple apology.

Children need to be shown and told what you expect, and then have those actions affirmed when the expectations are met. This is important during all stages of parenting.

As parents, we are the primary teacher for our children. Don't rely on the school or the church to teach your kids the values and habits that you want them to have.

Parents should be dealers in hope. When your children are anxious about the future, help them see that God is already there. Help them focus on their character, which is what will matter most wherever they're going.

Charlie Kirk is an example of a Person Everyone Needs. Maybe he has inspired you to use your voice, to no longer be afraid to speak the truth - not with hate but rather with a motivation of love.

Celebrating and Commemorating. When you reach a goal, don't be afraid to celebrate! Celebrating can give glory to God, acknowledge those who are with you, and bring inspiration for others or yourself in the future.

Faithfulness. Jonathan had only a few stories included in the Bible, however we can tell he was faithful in the everyday things of life - which led to the chance to do the great things he did.

There are a few unnamed boys in some significant Bible stories, including one with Jonathan and David. This week's episode encourages you to be open to serve in any capacity because you may be part of something great - even if your name is not recorded.

One important part of Jonathan's relationship with David was he helped him feel like he belonged. Who can you help feel that way - even when you don't feel seen yourself?

Wisdom isn't about dwelling on past time lost, but using your time now to prepare for what's ahead. Opportunities come from being prepared before they arise.

The final installment on Winning details some important things to keep in mind when you succeed - and when you don't.

Building momentum towards your goals by taking one small win at a time is key. Any goal worth reaching won't come easy, so you'll have to build momentum with each right step.
