    Quiet Awareness

Awareness begins quietly. Not as something you force, but as something you allow to unfold — moment by moment, breath by breath. In this practice, we’re not trying to change who we are or fix what we feel. We’re simply learning to notice. This meditation invites you into a softer kind of attention — one that rests gently on the present without judgment or urgency. Let it be a place where you return to yourself, just as you are, and discover the calm steadiness that has been there all along. This is a public episode. Let Small Things Stay Small

Begin by settling into a comfortable position. There’s nothing you need to adjust unless your body asks for it.Let yourself arrive exactly as you are.Bring your attention gently into the body. Not as a scan.Just as a general sense of being here.Notice the places where the body is supported. The weight of yourself being held. The simple fact of sitting, breathing, existing. Now let the breath come into awareness. You don’t need to change it.Just notice that it’s already happening.Breath moving in.Breath moving out.If the breath feels shallow, let it be shallow. If it feels deep, let it be deep. There’s no better version of this moment you need to find.As you sit, you may notice small thoughts beginning to appear.Plans.Judgments.Minor concerns.Let them come. You’re not here to solve them.Just notice how easily the mind offers things for your attention. And how quickly those things can start to feel important. Now bring to mind something very small that’s been bothering you.Nothing serious.Just a minor irritation. You don’t need to replay the story.Just notice the feeling of it.Where does it live in the body?Is there tightness?A subtle pulling forward?Notice without correcting.See if you can stay with the sensationwithout following the thought. You don’t need to push it away. You don’t need to make sense of it.Just let it be here —the way a sound is here, then fades.Notice what happens when you don’t rush to fix the irritation.Does it intensify?Does it stay the same?Does it begin to loosen on its own? There’s no right answer. You’re just watching. Now gently widen your awareness.Let the irritation be part of a larger field. The breath. The body. The room around you.Notice how much space there actually is.If the irritation fades, let it fade.If it returns, let it return.Nothing is being graded here. You’re learning how things move when they’re not being managed.Rest your attention again on the breath.Or on the feeling of the body being supported.Notice the effort it takes to hold onto small concerns —and the ease that appears when they’re allowed to be small. You might begin to sense something subtle now.A little more room.A little less urgency. Not because anything changed —but because you didn’t add to it.Stay here for a few more breaths. When you’re ready, let the awareness return fully to the body. The room. The simple fact of being here. There’s nothing you need to carry forward from this moment.Just the familiarity of how it feelswhen attention softens on its own. The Yoga Practice of Asteya

In yoga, non-stealing isn’t only about money or possessions. It’s also about awareness.Every day, we take things without noticing — the air we breathe, the warmth of another person’s attention, the energy of shared spaces, the quiet labor of others that supports our lives. None of this is wrong. But when it happens unconsciously, it can leave us feeling disconnected, rushed, or subtly dissatisfied. The practice of asteya invites us to slow down and notice what we receive — and to meet it with appreciation rather than entitlement. When we recognize what we are given, something softens. Gratitude naturally replaces grasping, and our relationships begin to feel more balanced and respectful.Today’s meditation is a quiet reflection on appreciation — for what we take, what we receive, and what supports us every day, often without our noticing. A Practice of Honesty

Last time, we explored kindness — the simple practice of softening the way we speak to ourselves.Kindness creates safety. And from that safety, something else becomes possible: honesty. Many of us are very good at being honest with other people. But with ourselves, it can be harder. We push feelings aside. We tell ourselves we’re “fine.” We rush past fatigue, disappointment, or quiet longings.Sometimes we avoid the truth because we think it will be overwhelming. Or because we worry we’ll judge ourselves for what we find. But honesty, when it’s held in kindness, is not harsh. It’s steady. It says: This is what’s here right now. No drama. No fixing. Just seeing clearly. In yoga, this is part of the practice — learning to be with our experience as it truly is, not as we wish it were.In the meditation attached, we practice a gentle form of honesty. Not digging, not analyzing — simply noticing what’s present in the body, the breath, and the heart, and allowing it to be known.Truth, met with kindness, can be a very peaceful place to stand.More on My Website This is a public episode.
