The SHE Word - Healing From Sexual Harassment and Assault
In the first quarter of 2026 three headlines hit the news ad sparked outrage; CNN published an investigation into a website who’s content included an ‘academy’ that not only instructed men on how to dr*g and r*pe their wives and partners, but also published the footage of these crimes - the website received over 62 million views alone. The UK government introduced new legislation to site public sexual harassment is a standalone criminal offense following research that indicates that 86% of young women (aged 18–24) in the UK have experienced sexual harassment in public spaces. And lastly fifty-two cases of r*pe of women were reported to the police in Malta last year, statistically a case a day. But most data indicates that around 80-90% of incidents go unreported, with factors such as shame, fear of not being believed, and fear of retaliation preventing victims from reporting. All three headlines brought long overdue attention to the crisis of SA and SH, with both men and women speaking out and calling for change but what happens when the algorithm moves on, what happens to the outcry, and most importantly what happens to the women left to face the often long lasting effects of harassment or assault. In this hard hitting, openly honest and occasionally uncomfortable episode Trudy sits down with Beatboxer, songwriter and mindset coach Dana McKeon, empowerment coach Mei Berrit and Counselling Psychology Practitioner from Richmond Marie Noelle Lanzon to share personal experiences, delve into the impact of their experiences - physically emotionally, mentally and relationally - and talk through the topic with a focus on healing. The conversation also looks at why perpetrators do what they do, the sliding scale of inappropriate and harmful behaviour, the culture of shame, and what we can do to change the attitude towards harmful behaviour and make a safer environment. With 1 in 3 women experiencing SA and 85% of young women affected by SH, even if you haven’t personally been affected by the topic, someone close to you - someone you love has. Despite recently being awarded ‘The Most Remarkable Woman’ at the Mara Awards, Daniela Calleja Bitar is an extraordinarily private person, you will be hard pressed to find out anything about Daniela online. However, as the CEO of the Richmond Foundation, Daniela has dedicated her life to making change in the field of mental health and in doing so, affecting thousands of men and women. In this down to earth SHE Warriors interview Dan sits down with Trudy to share her journey working in the area of mental health. Trudy also delves into the emergence of Social Media and asks about the long term impact that this new era of reality merging with a virtual life. The SHE Word Special with the MFSA - Avoiding Scams, Understanding Investments and Achieving Good Financial Health
Financial independence and security is a topic that I would suggest we ALL find hard to discuss. Talking about money is often an uncomfortable conversation, let alone discussing scams, investments and our financial security. However, finances and financial health is a topic that affects every single one of us in one way or another. For women particularly, financial security is crucial; over 70% of women are in employment but over 64% of women are also mothers, presenting the ‘career break challenge’ and the financial challenges that are associated with balancing both aspects of life. In this special edition of The SHE Word, Trudy sits down with three women from the MFSA to discuss two main areas of financial health that are particularly topical right now. Firstly Adelina Andreea Nechita from the MFSA Enforcement team tackles the topic of scams with Trudy. Scammers and scamming has become big business and is now a multi-billion Euro global illegal industry. Scamming is a high-tech, high turnover enterprise with one goal; to convince us to part with our money - using a variety of well practiced and effective tactics. None of us are immune to scammers, and with the rise of AI, these criminal networks have become even more convincing. Adelina and the guests share guidelines and tips to be able to spot a scammer in action, how to avoid loosing out and what to do if we are trapped by a scammer. Following up from Adelina, Lorraine Vella from the MFSA addresses financial security before guiding the conversation through the topic of investments and financial futures. Breaking down the terms Capital Markets, Bonds, Stocks and Shares, Lorraine walks through the different investment options, the risks and rewards, and they ‘what you need to know’ before launching into an investment plan. Lorraine also guides SHE-Worders through the do’s and absolute donts of investing and cutting through the jargon and help viewers gain the confidence to navigate today’s financial markets.Bring the conversation full circle, Sarah Pulis from the MFSA leads the topic of general good financial health with tangible tips and helpful hacks that we can all take away and start applying immediately to help us on a journey to better financial freedom and independence. Wherever you are on your financial journey, however ‘healthy’, whatever your age - this show is the episode you didn’t know you needed. Full of practical application and insight, this conversation has something for everyone. The opinions and views expressed are solely those of the individuals and do not necessarily reflect the official policy, position, or views of the MFSA.

The SHE Word - 10 Essential Things Every Woman Should Know
Ever thought to yourself ‘I wish I had known that before’ or ‘I would love to go back and tell my younger self that’? Well, over the course of the past three and a half years on The SHE Word we have heard some very wise words from women who know; who have often learned the hard way. SHE-WORDERS - our listeners and viewers have also shared their own experiences with us, and together we have curated a goldmine of wisdom and experiences that are real game changers. In this episode host Trudy Kerr sits down with three women who are no stranger to The SHE Word to look at ’10 Essentials That Every Woman Should Know’, and this episode’s guests are three women who don’t hold back in coming forward with what needs to be said. Dez Zahra is a relative new comer to TSW but in a recent show Dez shared her thoughts on relationships and why so often we get things very wrong, Denise Kim Gafa is back with her absolute honesty and insight into the essentials she has learned and the mistakes she has made along the way. Long term friend of TSW Sue Caruana joins too to bring her wisdom from her colourful life long experiences with her unmistakable no-mess delivery. The result is a powerful show looking at topics such as ‘the power of saying NO’, The value of our gut instincts, why our own standards are important, getting your bra size right, financial independence, empowering each other as women, frying an egg and so much more. The show is witty, honest and at times brutal. This episode is littered with Golden Nuggets gleaned from life lessons, both good and bad, and we can guarantee that there is something here for every woman. Whether you agree, feel seen and validated, disagree or if this discussion makes you rethink some of your preconceptions, you are going to love this honest conversation. Of course, we would never be able to fit every essential into one podcast, so please do share your thoughts in the comments below, because we are pretty sure we will be coming back with a part two to this incredibly important topic! With HUGE thanks to: Browns, Prohealth, Tampax, Always, Maison Perrier, Satariano Living, Dave’s Supermarkets, iCentre, YUE, Ayurveda, Growth Gurus, Monsoon, Myoka Spas and UBER

TSW Young Women's Edition - Young Women, Beauty Standards and the Reality of Pageants
In this episode of the Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella opens a candid conversation about beauty competitions, beauty standards, and the impact and real-life experiences behind taking part in beauty pageants. While pageants are often associated with success, glamour and achievement, research paints a more complex picture. Industry data suggests that many pageant participants experience body image concerns during the course of competing. Rather than debating whether pageants are good or bad, this episode centres the human experience behind them: the pressure, the discipline required, the sheer excitement, the responsibility of representing your own country on such international stages, and the dedication needed to succeed. Joining Sasha are three women who have competed at national and international level: Julia Ann Cluett, who is the reigning Miss Universe Malta, Miss Universe Europe and Middle East, and psychology graduate and assistant, Ella Gatt Baldacchino, who is Miss Universe Malta 2023, a compliance analyst, and a vocal advocate for body positivity, who speaks openly about living with body dysmorphia and how it has intersected with pageantry, and Shailey Micallef, model and Miss Grand International Malta, with a background in fashion, pageantry and a Master’s in Accountancy. An honest, grounded conversation that looks beyond titles and crowns to explore self-worth, body image and what it really means to be competing at these levels. The SHE Word - The 'Love Blueprint' and Redefining Love in our Lives for Long-Term Happiness
We ALL love to love and be loved, don’t you agree? And for that reason, this episode is an absolute MUST listen for everyone. From our earliest age love plays a huge role in our lives. We are actually “programmed” to love due to a combination of biological factors involving specific brain chemicals, like dopamine and oxytocin, that drive us to form bonds, but our brains are wired for social connection and attachment. But what we learn about love in our earliest years, in our childhood, very much shapes the way love looks in our lives and this can differ wildly for each person, even siblings growing up in the same home. This is our love Blueprint; the way we view, express and understand what love is, and what it means. As we grow older and experience variations of love beyond our Blueprint we are presented with choices. We can either reassess and revaluate our love framework and understanding and evolve and learn, or we apply our parameters to our relationships - both positively and negatively. In this show Trudy sits down with three women to examine the Blueprints they developed from a young age, looking at the influences that formed their opinions, and the lessons that life taught them to revaluate their understanding and experiences of Love. Danae Mercer Ricci is an influencer with an online community of over 2.5 million followers, using her platform to speak out about body positivity, understanding social media and its impact, and protecting young girls and the challenges they face today. Danae’s also holds a powerful story of overcoming an early life with her teenage mum, a succession of men and often abusive father figures and shares how these experiences shaped the relationships she formed as an adult. Demaris Agius, also known as Life of a Mum on Instagram, Demaris is an ADHD advocate, a long-term wife and mother, and a content creator. Demaris shares her experiences of her family influences and how meeting and marrying her husband when they were in their very early twenties has presented its own challenges, and opportunities. Demaris talks about how both her and her husband have changed over the course of their relationship, growing into new versions of themselves, as partners and parents. And the work that it has take to maintain, build and strengthen their love over nearly two decades. Maxine Attard is part of The SHE Word family, Mum of two, currently working her way through postpartum and her new life with two young children. Maxine brings her own story to the discussion, growing up with a single parent, also hit hard when her beloved Mum passes away from cancer when Maxine was in her late twenties. Maxine shares how the absence of a father shaped her understanding of trust and the role a husband, partner and father can play. This show is full of Golden Nuggets of experiences, lessons learned, changed perceptions, honest opinions and admissions. There is something for everyone in this edition of The SHE Word, no matter where you are on your Love and Life Journey. The SHE Word, Women and Men: A Man’s Perspective on the Issue of Violence
The SHE Word’s founder and host Trudy Kerr invites three of Malta’s leading men to sit down to discuss one of today’s toughest topics and everything that surrounds it; Male Violence and Aggression, and the Impact on Women. This raw episode is probably the most honest conversation about this massive issue shared from a man’s perspective and understanding. This show isn’t about ‘bashing’ or accusing men. On the contrary, this episode sets out to break the silence on an issue that simply can’t be fully understood and solved without men as a crucial part of the conversation. With one in three women facing violence and assault, Trudy lays out the sober truths that women face everyday in terms of safety, SA, DV, aggression and harassment; the constant negotiations women and girls make to navigate the opposite gender both online and offline. Guests Podcaster Jon Mallia, Producer and Presenter Frank Zammit and Editor in Chief Herman Grech join Trudy at the table to dive into the multilayered and complex subject, and unravel not only what motivates the minority of men who commit violence, assault and abuse, but why most men find it hard to call out this behaviour. Frank stuns the table as he shares the brutal honesty that men find it easier to support a campaign such as Animal Cruelty than speak out against SA or DV. Jon shares his fears for his daughter and her safety, and Herman unravels the role social media plays in fuelling rage against one another. The guests delve into what makes men men, the shifting climate, the sliding scale of implication, healthy masculinity and rise of toxic men, everyday objectification, the role of heroes and the heartbreaking and tragic dynamic of young men today. Whilst this show isn’t an easy listen, it is an absolute game changer in opening the conversation to include both men and women, with the goal to start to understand how we can tackle the issue of identity, value, violence, abuse and aggression from the very roots. This is a show for women AND men, to feel seen, understood, and to be able to understand this global endemic issue from the other side of gender fence, from a different point of view. The SHE Word - After Hours with Special Guest Gianni Zammit

The SHE Word - Women and keeping your sex life spicy (especially in long term relationships)
Let’s be real for a second, keeping the sex spicy in a long term relationship is not a regular dinner time conversation, although maybe it should be. Within marriage and long term relationships, difficulties with sex, different interest levels, or a lack of physical intimacy are cited as common reasons for divorce, separation and break up, with satisfaction often declining over time. But sex in a long term relationship is important isn’t it? Well. Maybe it isn’t for everyone, and maybe it shouldn’t be. A recent study found that on average, long-term couples have sex about once a week (54 times per year). However, statistics vary widely; one study found 31% of couples have sex a few times per week, while 8% have it once a month, and 33% either have sex rarely or not at all. Let me say that again, a third of couples in long term relationships rarely have sex, or not at all. In this brilliantly entertaining and informative episode, we not only look at the magic of how to keep your sex life satisfying in all seasons of your relationship, but we look at the importance of sex in a relationship that is likely to change over years, and how to evaluate the importance of sex and intimacy. Trudy guides her guests through this enlightening and empowering conversation to touch on the challenge of falling in love over and over again with the same person, renegotiating long term relationships, Breaks vs Accelerators and the very real challenges that can interrupt the physical side of a relationship. Joining Trudy are three regular sex-perts and relationship counsellors; Anna Catania is a highly respected and recommended qualified counsellor specialised in the area of sex and relationships and offers counselling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples who are having difficulties with sexuality, relationships and intimacy. Nicola Falzon is back on The SHE Word, having brought her energy and a wealth of knowledge to our previous show’s on the topic of sex - Nicola is a Gestalt Psychotherapist & Mental and Sexual Health Advocate Marija Attard is a psychotherapist who provides psychosexual therapy, a master in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice. This episode normalises talking about sex, eliminate any shame and provide all the tools you need to navigate satisfying intimacy in a long term relationship and acknowledges the very real challenges faced by every single couple. TSW Young Women's Edition - Young Women and Only Fans
OnlyFans, is it empowerment, exploitation, or something in between? In this episode of The SHE Word: Young Women’s Edition, Sasha sits down for an honest, unfiltered conversation about one of the most talked-about, and misunderstood, platforms in the world. Behind the controversy are real women, with real boundaries, navigating empowerment, vulnerability, and the business of being visible online.Joining the discussion are Emily Jones, a British-Maltese content creator who uses her platform to promote body positivity and self-expression; Miss Rager (Baked Sloths), a creative working in social media and the cannabis industry; and Undine LaVerve, Malta’s pioneering burlesque performer and founder of The Burlesque Academy Malta.Together, they explore what it means to step into your power while protecting your peace: from setting boundaries and dealing with judgment, to navigating family reactions, content leaks, and the blurred lines between confidence and exploitation. They also share what an average workday really looks like behind the scenes, and how authenticity and self-respect shape every decision they make. This episode digs into the questions many people are afraid to ask: Can OnlyFans truly be empowering? The SHE Word Special - Women and Workplace Mental Heath
The average person spends 90,000 hours in the workplace, around a third of our lives, it is little surprise then that the workplace represents a significant source of mental health related issues. Of the 7,000 calls a year that the Richmond Foundation receives, the majority are relational issues - that is issues connected with relationships. Other specific issues include work overload and dealing with difficult clients, which are more prevalent among women. Over 3.5 million EU workers aged 15-64 reported mental health issues in 2024, contributing to significant economic costs through lost productivity and absenteeism. Over the past few years, several issues have gathered significance as part of the workplace well being conversation; Burnout, Boundaries, Work Ethic, Well Being and the Work Life Balance to name just a few. In this episode Trudy sits down with three significant business leaders to find out how they deal with mental health in the workplace, and to ask what we as employees can do. Sarah Zammit Cutajar is the CEO of P. Cutajar & Co Ltd who have recently partnered with the Richmond Foundation to support mental health initiatives in Malta and to implement their own well-being measures.Christabelle Borg, now Christabelle Camilleri is the CEO of the industrial company V&C, an investor in Malta’s Shark Tank and then went on to launch passion project brands Health and Co and more recently co-founder of luxury brand 6FIFTYTWO.Daniela Calleja Bitar is the CEO of the Richmond Foundation and has worked with Richmond for over 25 years. The Richmond foundation was founded to support people experiencing mental health problems and those around them, throughout various aspects of life.In this powerful episode the four women discuss how to identify a colleague or employee who is struggling, toxicity in the workplace, the work life balance, generational differences, relationships at work, working environments for women and how best to support women at work. The guests also take a deep dive into Burnout, what it really is and how to spot it in yourself as well as those around you, drawing on Christabelle’s own personal experience. This show hits topics that affect almost every single one of us at some point. Watch the show to be seen and to see the others around you. This show is brought to you in association with P Cutajar and The Richmond Foundation If you would like to speak to someone about the challenges you are facing, please contact the Richmond Foundation on telephone no: 1770, email: [email protected] or go to https://olli.chat/ for an immediate conversation.

SHE WARRIORS Trudy Kerr with Monika Schembri - A story of positivity in the face of heartbreak and adversity.
Let’s face it. No-one expects a Breast Cancer Diagnosis. If we are really honest, I should imagine that most of us expect breast cancer to happen to someone else. But with Breast cancer affecting approximately 1 in 10 women worldwide, and being the most common cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall, it is very likely that if you are not directly affected by breast cancer, someone close to you will be. But a breast cancer diagnosis is not the end, and in this episode of SHE WARRIORS Trudy sits down with Monica Schembri who has not already faced breast cancer and overcome it, but is dealing with a second diagnosis. But as Monica has so often demonstrated, grace and a positive attitude makes a life changing difference in the face of adversity, not only to herself but to those around her. In this brutally honest interview, Lithuanian born Monika openly talks about her breast cancer journey, from first noticing a lump on her chest, to the moment of hearing the diagnosis. She talks through her treatment, the all clear verdict, the news of her miracle pregnancy, the marriage that didn’t survive and the cancer diagnosis second time round. But rather than a story of sadness and despair, Monika’s is full of hope. Trudy digs deeper to find the source of Monika’s trademark attitude, and in doing so, finds profoundly wise words for anyone facing a challenge, or heartbreaking news. Watch this edition of SHE WARRIORS to be inspired by an ordinary woman with an extraordinary story. The good, the bad and the hopeful. The SHE Word S6/EP15 - International Women, The Maltese - English Edition
This brilliantly entertaining show is for the women who have lived across more than one country, who have more than one identity. Women who have family stretched across continents, friends in far off places, who have split their lives across different cultures. This show is for those who have more than one home, more than one love, more than one language. In this brilliantly lively edition of The SHE Word the four women sitting at the table have one thing in common; they are all both Maltese AND British citizens. Content Creator and Marketing Specialist Katherine Neave is British born with a Maltese Nannu and moved to Malta during COVID to live, work, and experience the islands before returning to the UK after the pandemic. Kate strongly identifies with her Maltese heritage, whilst also deeply connected to England. Chelsea Bagnall-Falzon is no stranger to the Maltese Islands. Having grown up in the UK, sporting a strong Hertfordshire accent, Chelsea moved to Malta in her early twenties with her Maltese Mum to start a (small) island life and return to her Mediterranean roots. Emily Jones is a regular of The SHE Word, but what many might not know is that Emily is truly dual nationality, with an English Mum and Maltese Dad. Emily grew up in Malta, with her full high school and university education in Malta, and despite her very British accent Emily is fluent in Maltese. Trudy is the only naturalised Maltese, the British born TSW host moved to Malta 19 years ago, and chose to make Malta her home, only achieving naturalised Maltese citizenship in 2024. What she lacks in her mastering of the Maltese language, she more than makes up for with her love of the Maltese islands and passion for the history of this remarkable archipelago. The guests explore the hot topic of language, (including swearing!) - both Maltese and English. The ladies discuss dating, relationships, body count and English vs Maltese men. The four dive into identity, friendships, religion, humour, glaring cultural differences, alongside the commonalities, they cover prejudice and assumptions as well as respect and appreciation for the countries they call home. The relationship between Malta and England dates back to 1800 and like all love stories, there have been good times and tougher times in this trans continental bond. With 420,000 Maltese living across the globe, and a significant community of Maltese in the UK, along with a healthy presence of British in Malta, it is little wonder that this cultural romance has given birth to many who have both Maltese and British nationality, dual identity, women and men who live across two cultures. So many of us identify with more than one culture. Across the ages millions moved across the globe for a variety of reasons and motivations, be it love, lifestyle, work, war, finances, family and more now than ever before. Sitting across more than one culture brings a rich diversity and colourful life, but it also brings its own challenges. It is undoubtably exciting to have the opportunity to call more than one country home, but it definitely isn’t plain sailing. Tune in to hear what the guests have to say about the British and Maltese alike and how their double identity has shaped them as women. Have your say in the COMMENTS (Maltese language comments welcome ) With HUGE thanks to: Browns, Prohealth, Tampax, Always, Maison Perrier, Satariano Living, Dave’s Supermarkets, iCentre, YUE, Ayurveda, Growth Gurus, Monsoon, Myoka Spas and UBER

The SHE Word S6/EP14 - Women, Girls and The Body Shaming Culture
In Danae Mercer Ricci’s 2024 talk At The SHE Word Event she dropped an astounding statistic - Danae stated that the diet business is worth 90 Billion Dollar; a business that thrives on us feeling we need to be something else, that we are not enough. The Body Shaming Culture is affecting girls as young as 6 years old who are turning to dieting as a result of being actively targeted by the industry. 25–50% of teenagers reporting weight-based discrimination with another report stating that up to 67% students experience body shaming. One study reports that at age thirteen, 53% of girls are “unhappy with their bodies.” This grows to 78% by the time girls reach seventeen. The Body Shaming Culture has reached epidemic levels and we simply aren’t talking about this enough. In this episode of The SHE Word, Trudy sits down with three women who have not only experienced body shaming, but have taken steps to actively combat this culture. Corrine Muscat is well known for her radio and voice over artist voice, but in the past few years trained and qualified as a personal trainer specifically working with women and men struggling to get started, just as she did in the past. Leeanne Bartolo is the name and face behind the Gym, Sports and Fitness brand Warehouse, but despite being WFF Bikini World Champion has struggled with her own appearance and the way that she has felt about herself. Caroline Abela is a full time mum at full time work and shares her own battles with body image and being body shamed. The women powerfully share their own journeys, from childhood body shaming, teenager bullying, online trolling and the struggles to deal with the Filtered Untruth we are challenged by every day. The conversation is full of heart breaking stories, personal accounts, honest and brave accounts and words of hope and encouragement. Feel seen in this show by women who are having a conversation that women really rarely have, that we really should have, not just for ourselves, but for the millions of young women and girls that are also affected by the body shaming culture. The SHE Word S6/13- After Hours with Special Guest Max Vassallo
Yes, you read it right. In this Afterhours Special of The SHE Word, Trudy, Tez and Sue sit down with Max Vassalo of Bajd U Beiken for possibly the most unexpected episode of The SHE Word. Max and the hosts of The SHE Word have been known to disagree on topics and content of each other’s shows, and to be fair when they do publicly comment they’ve often hit the headlines. However, as is so often the case, there is much more to the individuals involved than is portrayed in the media. Host Trudy invites Max as a special guest to this adult version of the show to add his thoughts on a wide range of topics. This episode demonstrates that it is not just possible to discuss, debate and still disagree, but to also like and respect someone you don’t always see eye to eye with. But this show isn’t a demonstration of differences. In this episode the four at the table find that there is a great deal of common ground. Trudy, Max, Sue and Tez dive into finding out what the opposite sex thinks about key topics such as sex, red flags, women’s and men’s roles in the home, parenting, love languages, same sex and opposite sex friendships, and much more. This show is not only brilliantly funny and unexpectedly honest; this special episode also shows an emotional side of Max that few will be familiar with. Laugh along with the guests as they drop innuendos and crack jokes, but also delve into surprising sensitive topics with often very unexpected outcomes. As the guest list and the name suggests, the conversation is littered with ADULT references and language - so please be warned! TSW Young Women's Edition S4/06 - Young Women in Media
What’s it really like to be a young woman working in media today? It’s a world that can be unpredictable, funny, and sometimes downright chaotic, full of bloopers, slip-ups, and unexpected encounters that make for the best stories. But it also comes with very real challenges: balancing public and private life, handling criticism, and finding your own voice in an industry that isn’t always built to listen. In this episode of The SHE Word’s Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha, a former journalist who continues to work in media, is joined by three incredible guests: Naomi Scicluna, Head of Creative at FreeHour Malta and content creator; Angelica Farrugia, journalist and newscaster at TVM News; and Martha Attard, radio host and broadcasting producer at Vibe FM. Together, the four women swap hilarious on-air mishaps and behind-the-scenes stories, while also reflecting on what it means to represent young women in spaces that remain largely male-dominated.The conversation flows between laughter and honesty, from the pressure to always “look the part,” to the nerves of going live for the first time, to the joy of creating work that genuinely connects with people. It’s about boundaries, burnout, ambition, and above all, the importance of finding joy in the middle of it all.Lively, hilarious, and empowering, this episode captures what it really takes for young women in media to not just survive, but thrive. With special thanks to our sponsors: Browns, Ayurveda, Tampax, Always, Islands 8 Gin, YUE, Hyatt Regency, UBER, iCentre, and Growth Gurus

The SHE Word S6/12 - Women Overcoming Trauma
This outstandingly powerful episode of The SHE Word touches on a topic that affects us all but is very rarely openly spoken about; Trauma. Trauma is impossible to avoid, and what one person might find deeply traumatic, another might breeze through. Likewise, an experience that might be seemingly small and insignificant to some might leave deep wounds for another. Simply put, none of us walk the same path and navigate the same trauma. Even children growing up in the same home do not experience the same childhood - and this applies throughout life. In this show Trudy is joined by TSW regular Sue Caruana, political figure and counselor Rachel Williams, and author and business woman Pamela Michaux for a raw, honest and moving time of sharing and discussion. Each of the women openly and powerfully share their trauma experiences and describe how this shaped their lives and affected their decisions. The women bond over common threads and repeated behaviour; the gas lighting reactions; the 'walking into the room responses'. Watch and be seen as the women (sometimes tearfully) speak about the sadness, loneliness, abuse and isolation that has affected them. Listen and identify as Trudy guides the guests navigate what trauma is and the validity of their own experiences; from surviving childhood beatings, to abandonment and complete lack of love, from abusive relationships and marriages to lack of self worth and long lasting anger. In this show Trudy also delves into the positive lasting legacies that make Sue, Rachel and Pamela the powerful women they are today. The episode looks at the fire that drives them, the freedom that comes with forgiveness and the power that overcoming trauma can bring. If you are affected by any aspect of the show and conversations, please do seek support. The SHE Word Mums S1/EP4 - Mums and Redefining Your Identity
In the latest lively, challenging, sometimes controversial, and absolutely empowering episode of the She Word Mums, host Nerissa Massa sits down with three mums to discuss the impact that motherhood has had on their sense of self and their identity. At a time when women are encouraged to build a life for themselves, be financially independent and have careers, this show asks the essential questions that impact the very identity of a woman and her role as a mum. How much does life really change after becoming a mother and what are the elements that mothers give up? What is the impact of the physical changes that happen to a woman’s body after pregnancy and birth? What are the psychological impacts on a new mum who goes through intense hormonal changes? How does a mother navigate her new role and demands without loosing herself? We attempt to answer all this and more in this episode of the She Word. This is a raw and honest conversation with lots of laughter about women sharing their personal experience on how they felt when they were tasked with the role of mum.Nerissa is joined by Tezara Saliba who is a mum, a teacher, an actress and a singer, Donna Cardona, a mum of four and founder of Mymama.mt, and Maria Muscat, a gestalt psychotherapist and mum of two. Each of the guests bring very different post childbirth experiences to the table as they sit down to discuss, and disagree, about what happens to a women’s identity post having a child – is it lost, is it the same or does it change? The show delves into the importance of looking after ourselves, and making sure that we get the right support, whether that is from a partner, family member of external help, and how this can help to still retain some of the identity that you were familiar with before. With special thanks to our amazing sponsors, Browns Health, Hyatt Regency, Pemix Distributors, Ayur Veda, Slinky & Co, La Roche Posay, Monsoon, iCentre and Myoka Spas

TSW Young Women's Edition S4/03 - Young Women and Sex
We all grew up with ideas about sex that were passed down to us — from school, family, or even the media. But how much of what we were told actually helped us understand our bodies, our choices, or our pleasure? This is THE conversation we wish we had growing up.In this episode of The SHE Word’s Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella sits down with three bold, thoughtful voices — Antonella Bugeja, 23, an artist, medical student, and certified sex-ed trainer passionate about exploring sexuality through science and art; Timara Saliba, a working professional and part-time yoga teacher who believes breaking the silence around pleasure is key to empowerment; and Mariah Mangion, 21, a law student and singer-songwriter focused on shifting the narrative from glamorised sex to honest, human experiences — for a conversation that strips back the shame and gets real about what sex can and should be.Together they explore topics like consent, pleasure, pressure, confidence, and communication, reflecting on the moments that shaped their own understanding and what they wish they had been taught. With studies showing that over 50% of young women say they were never taught about pleasure in sex education, this conversation is long overdue. It’s not about judgment — it’s about curiosity, honesty, and reclaiming the conversation.Whether you're reflecting on your own experiences or still figuring it all out, this episode offers a safe, insightful space to feel seen and heard. The SHE Word Mums S1/EP3 - Mums and Mum Rage
This episode of the She Word Mums explores Mum Rage – a topic which probably doesn’t get the attention it deserves because it is engulfed in shame.Mum rage can be described as intense feelings of anger, frustration or emotional overwhelm experienced by mothers, often in response to the mental, emotional, and physical demands of parenting. If you are a mum, you are likely to have experience this at some point or other during your motherhood journey as at least 60% of mums claim to have felt this. However, not many of us feel comfortable talking about it, or admitting it, for fear we will be judged or deemed a bad mum. This show helps to change the stigma around mum rage and helps mothers who experience this feel less alone, and understand that was is happening is not permanent, does not ruin their children, and most definitely will not make them a bad mother.Join Nerissa Massa and her three guests explore this, talk about their own experiences, and also understand how to cope after an episode of rage. We also talk about the importance of partner support, working on your own regulation, and making sure to find time for yourself as important factors to lower the episodes where you go into rage. Our three guests for this week’s show are Maria Buckle, freelance actress and mummy to 2 girls, who admits that her motherhood journey was not free of these episodes of rage, and although she feels guilty, she then chooses to repair with her children. Emma Hogg is also a mummy, but a psychotherapist who has spent years working on her own personal development and has seen the benefits of this in that she experiences far less rage than probably other mums. Her tips and her empathy will help mums feel like they can definitely overcome this with the right support and work put in.Our last guest is Danita Camilleri – most commonly known on social media as One Chick and a Yorkie, she has on many occasions spoken openly about sometimes losing it with her son. Danita talks about this happening to her more now that her son is getting older rather than in his baby days. This is a show that should not be missed – as our guests talk candidly and openly about their experiences, and ensuring that any mum listening who might feel immense guilt at her episodes of mum rage feels seen and not alone. With thanks to our amazing sponsors:Browns, Pemix, Slinky and Co, Ayur Veda, La Roche Posay, Monsoon, Hyatt Regency, iCentre, Myoka SpasFind us on YouTube: www.youtube.com/@theshewordFind us on Instagram: instagram.com/the_she_word

The SHE Word S6/EP7 Women and Perimenopause, Uncovered, Unravelled and Explained
Every single woman who makes it to her 40s is going to be affected by perimenopause and menopause in one way or another. There literally is no escaping one of the most significant journeys that every woman has to travel.Historically knowledge, information, research and support for this transition has been shockingly and unacceptably absent. Only in the past few years has it been recognised that perimenopause lasts around 7 years, not 1 year, and that there are over 65 recognised symptoms - far beyond the traditional hot flash or night sweat.Whilst conversations concerning Menopause have become much more open and honest, there is still a great deal of understanding and discussion missing regarding perimenopause, making it for some far more challenging, darker and often more depressing than menopause itself. As hormone levels spike and fall erratically, women are far more likely to be described antidepressants than explained lifestyle changes to accommodate this natural and necessary stage of life.In this BRILLIANT and CRUCIAL show, Trudy sits down with three women to blow apart any misconception about the Perimenopause journey and delve into what is really happening, and how to navigate the perimenopause path.Joining Trudy is Chiara Frendo Balzan; our resident Gyne on The SHE Word - much loved Chiara regularly sheds light on the challenges women face as part of the journey of being a woman, particularly Perimenopause and Penopause. The Naked Pharmacist aka Marie Micallef, a certified lifestyle coach & licensed pharmacist, empowers women to heal naturally, guiding them to listen to their bodies & make informed choices. She is dedicated to empowering women to harness their body’s innate healing abilities.Angele Galea is an Artistic Director, producer, actor, fine artist, teacher, writer at More or Less Theatre. Angele brings lived experience to the conversation and shares her journey of Perimenopause. If you are in your 40s, or even approaching your 40s, this is an essential show for YOU. Hormone fluctuations, symptoms, cycles, periods, pain, diagnosis, duration, lifestyle changes, mediation, supplements, and so much more ALL DISCUSSED and EXPLAINED in a clear and transparent way you’ve probably never heard before.Make time to understanding the challenges and changes that you will be experiencing as a woman celebrating the next stage of life. The SHE Word S6/EP4 Women and the Impact of The Narcissist & Childhood Trauma
This powerful and sometimes-painful show revisits the topic of the Narcissist. Last year The SHE Word aired an astounding mini series titled ‘Living with a Narcissist - Its not about YOU’ (link at bottom). The series has had over 30k views and listens and continues to change lives today. We often talk about narcissistic abuse from the perspective of a partner or spouse, but rarely do focus on the long term and devastating impact a narcissistic parent has on a child and family. In this show Trudy and the guests delve into the roles children are moulded into as part of a narcissistic family dynamic and how this can potentially shape a young and innocent child for the rest of their lives. The show also looks at how to identify the impact and where to start with dealing with the damage. Joining Trudy is Roberta Farrugia Debono - clinical psychologist and a family therapist and a frequent friend of the show, Claire Borg - Psychotherapist and Co-Founder at Indigo Psychology Services Malta working with adults on issues related to trauma, anxiety, self-esteem, bereavement, depression, relationships and Caroline Vassallo is a Gestalt Psychotherapist with a special interest in Narcissism and Childhood Trauma. The conversation navigates through the true definition of a Narcissist, Narcissistic Personality Disorder and the 12 Narcissistic traits that lead to a diagnosis. Trudy and her expert guests also discuss the impact on family members, especially children, and the related childhood trauma, as well as the passage towards identifying a trauma childhood and how to navigate towards a full and healthy life as a trauma survivor. A powerful and game-changing episode for all narcissist survivors. The SHE Word S6/EP3 Women and the Underestimated Value of Friendship
This brilliantly lively, entertaining, sometimes heartbreaking show looks at one of the most neglected topics of discussion; we talk about relationships, we talk about family, children, partners, work colleagues - but rarely do we intentionally talk about and acknowledge the value of friendship. According to new research, we make just 29 real friends in our lifetime and only 6 of them will last the distance. A study, which charted the social lives of 2,000 people, showed that we lose touch with almost 50% of the friends that we make. Which echos the theory that we have friends for a reason, friends for a season and friends for life. Not only do friendships come and go naturally, but sometimes we loose valued friendships through circumstance, distance, misunderstanding or we decide to break off friendships that are no longer positive. In this episode, Trudy takes a deep dive into the topic of friendship with three guests who have three different view points, with very different lived experiences. Trudy is joined by the brilliantly outspoken Denise Kim Gafa, bold-as-brass Chelsea Bagnall and wonderfully lively Melissa Speigner. Laugh and cry with these women as they navigate how much friendship means, the loneliness without friends, what happens when friends drift away, friendship break ups, the big NO NOs in friendship, and the old adage ‘Friends for a reason, friends for a season and friends for life’. Whatever your friendship status is right now, feel seen in this brutally honest and open show. A great show for every single woman.HUGE thanks to those who support this show and make it possible: Brown's Pharma, ProHealth, Satariano Living, Tampax, Always, Perrier, Ayurveda, Dave's Supermarket, YUE gym, iCenter, Growth Gurus, Monsoon

TSW Young Women's Edition S4/01 - Young Women and Problem Periods
We’ve been told to just “get on with it.” That pain is normal. That hormones make us overreact. But for many young women, periods aren’t just a monthly inconvenience — they’re a debilitating, misunderstood, and often dismissed struggle. In this deeply personal and eye-opening episode of The SHE Word – Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella leads an honest conversation about problem periods: cycles that derail your life, impact your mental health, and are too often gaslit by doctors, misunderstood by parents, and silenced by society.Sasha opens up about her own experience of painful, emotionally overwhelming periods that started when she was just 12 — and the years she spent not understanding what was happening in her body. She’s joined by three powerful voices, each bringing a unique perspective to the table. Sammy McEleny, 36, has been battling endometriosis for most of her life, enduring years of misdiagnosis, confusion, and chronic pain. Lara Vella, 26, is an artist who was put on the pill at 16 without a diagnosis and has since taken her healing into her own hands after fainting, vomiting, and enduring feverish pain with every cycle. And Dr Chiara Frendo Balzan, a leading gynaecologist and returning SHE Word expert, brings medical clarity to the conversation, helping to break down the myths and stigma surrounding menstrual health.Together, they explore the medical gaslighting so many women face, the toll hormonal imbalances can take on mental health, and the shame that still surrounds periods — especially in conservative cultures like Malta’s.This episode is a must-watch for every young woman who’s ever felt confused, dismissed, or alone in her menstrual journey — and for every teacher, parent, partner, and policymaker who needs to understand that painful periods are not “just part of being a woman.”With special thanks to: Brown’s, Ayur Veda Organic Wellbeing, Prohealth: Cerave, Tampax, Always, Islands 8, Hyatt Regency, YUE, UBER, iCentre, Growth GurusFind us on YouTube: www.youtube.com/@theshewordFind us on Instagram: instagram.com/the_she_word

The SHE Word S6/EP02 Women and Everything You Need to Know About AI
The world is changing at a dramatic rate, no one disputes this, let’s face it - most of us struggle to keep up. Well, AI is one game changer that is here to stay - and is becoming part of our lives whether we are aware of it or not - and in this show The SHE Word sits down with three experts to examine the good, the bad, and the downright alarming. If you didn’t know, simply by design and not by a sinister plan, AI has an inherent male gender bias, meaning that we are all interacting with male gender biased technology solutions everyday. This can be attributed partially to the individuals behind AI creation. Out of nearly 1.6 million AI professionals worldwide there is a stark gender imbalance, women comprise only 22% of AI talent globally, with even lower representation at senior levels – occupying less than 14% of senior executive roles in AI. Within the EU, the disparity is equally concerning. “AI systems, learning from data filled with stereotypes, often reflect and reinforce gender biases,” says Zinnya del Villar. “These biases can limit opportunities and diversity, especially in areas like decision-making, hiring, loan approvals, and legal judgments.” - and one area that is of HUGE concern is the medical profession - as we lean on technology based medical solutions more and more. Joining Host Trudy Kerr to tackle this topic is three experts in this field: Dr Vanessa Camilleri is a Senior Lecturer, Department of AI, University of Malta .Vanessa, Doctor Vanessa has a life long career in education - more specifically focussed on technology over the past decade. Izzy Hyzler is the CEO of Growth Gurus, who has a passion for data-driven decision making - Growth Gurus is an award winning agency based here in Malta, but serving clients all over the world. Natalia Mallia is a lead AI Engineer, deep learning specialist and data scientist with a passion for building intelligent systems that make a real impact. Natalia manages AI operations and cross-team integration at Axon Park. Overseeing AI feature development, deployment, and consistency across departments to ensure smooth platform functionality.Watch this informative, educational and entertaining show to learn everything you need to know about AI, how we can make this technology enhance our lives, what we need to be aware of, how the male gender bias may be working against women, what we should be concerned about in relation to our children and AI, and how we can retain a healthy relationship with AI for today, and future generations. The SHE Word Mums S1/EP1 - Mums and Mum Guilt
In this very first episode of The She Word Mums, Host Nerissa and Guests discuss one of the most common themes that surround motherhood, but a topic that is not always spoken about – Mum Guilt and Mum Judgement. Nerissa and the guest explore ways of how to mitigate guilt and have more self compassion for themselves as Mums. TSW Young Women's Edition S3/06 - Young Women and Consent
The shocking statistics are that only 0.5% of rape cases in the EU lead to conviction. And 97% of rapists never see a day behind bars. Even when women speak out, justice is rarely served. In this powerful episode of The SHE Word’s Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella leads a crucial discussion on consent, a topic that remains misunderstood, ignored, and legally unprotected in Malta.Consent isn’t just about saying yes or no — it’s about autonomy, boundaries, respect, and education. Yet, despite growing awareness, systemic failures continue to put women at risk.Joining Sasha at the table are three outstanding guests; Emma Agius, Antonella Bugeja, and Mel McElhatton, who bring both first-hand experience and professional insight to the conversation. Emma Agius shares her personal experience of being failed by Malta’s legal system as a rape survivor, while Antonella Bugeja and Mel McElhatton examine the psychological effects of consent violations and how young women can be empowered to assert their boundaries in relationships, dating, and daily life. Together, they explore the legal gaps that fail survivors, the lasting impact of sexual violence, and the urgent need for better education and awareness. As Malta remains one of 15 EU countries that does not define rape based on lack of consent, this episode asks: what needs to change? This is a conversation that every young woman—and man—needs to hear.Warning, this show includes open discussion about rape, suicide, and trauma, should you need help, please contact the Richmond Foundation on 1770 or +356 21 224580, or Olli Chat: https://olli.chat/ or Victim Support Malta on +356 2122 8333, [email protected] views, opinions, and statements expressed by the interviewees in this program are solely their own and do not reflect the views, opinions, or positions of the interviewer, the production team, or any affiliated entities. The interviewer assumes no responsibility or liability for any comments made by the interviewees during the course of the program.
