The Student Journey

In the Student Journey podcast series, students reflect on their journey through international higher education, and discuss what institutions can do to support students’ learning in international classrooms. In three episodes, our students discuss why they have chosen to study at an international university, what it means to be an international student, whether a diverse learning environment also means inclusion, and what students need and can expect from their teachers.Each of the episodes features excerpts from interviews with teachers and experts from one of the three participating institutions: The University of Groningen, Hanze University of Applied Sciences and NHL/ Stenden University of Applied Sciences. The excerpts are played to the students during the recording to stimulate the discussion. The moderator of the podcast is Isidora Jurisic.     Into the unknown again

    In the third and final part of the Student Journey podcast, students and alumni reflect on the benefits of an international study experience and what they take with them after graduating. Topics include how studying in a diverse environment contributes to personal growth, what teachers can do to foster an inclusive and globalized perspective, and the importance of the international experience for employability. In this episode, excerpts from interviews with Robert Coelen (NHL/ Stenden University of Applied Sciences/ University of Groningen) and Sanne Bosma (Hanze University of Applied Sciences)  are used to stimulate the discussion.

    Make the unknown your own

    The second episode of the Student Journey podcast zooms in on inclusive learning in diverse classrooms. The discussion focuses on what makes students feel safe and included, different aspects of diversity, such as culture, language, or having a functional impairment, and the support that is needed to help students develop both personally and professionally. In this episode, excerpts from interviews with Jan Riezebos (University of Groningen) and Pei Pei Vong (NHL/ Stenden University of Applied Sciences) are used to stimulate the discussion.

    From home into the unknown

    In the first episode of the Student Journey podcast, first and second year students talk about their experiences arriving in the international classroom. The discussion focuses on the expectations the students had before arrival, the importance of the wider study environment, and when a new city starts to feel like home.In this episode, excerpts from interviews with Carole Fuller (University of Groningen) and Marcel van der Poel (Hanze University of Applied Sciences) are used to stimulate the discussion.
