episode 1: shō yamagushiku
The SYZYGY Podcast has our very first conversation with poet shō yamagushiku about his debut collection, shima. We discuss ancestral work, being greedy, enclosures, and refusing empire of all kinds. ABOUT OUR GUEST: shō yamagushiku’s work is grounded in a diasporic okinawan consciousness. He writes from the homelands of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples (Victoria, BC). His first poetry collection, entitled shima, reflects ancestors, violence, and tradition. Thanks to our workshop members Justin, jonah, Kris, lae, and Grayson for appearing on the episode. Editing and music composition by ipso.
