EP08 - How does the Government work? Canada vs. the Philippines

With the Canadian federal elections coming up in a week's time, it's a good idea to get an understanding of how the Canadian government work. Unfortunately, many Filipino immigrants in Canada do not have a good understanding of Canadian politics leading to a lower Filipino vote. In this episode, we discuss the differences between the Canadian government system and the Philippine government system. Disclaimer: We are by no means political experts, but rather, just two people trying to learn more of the political landscape that affect our lives everyday. We are still learning and there is a possibility that some of the topics discussed and/or our understanding may be inaccurate. Therefore, we ask our listeners to take our opinions with a grain of salt, and to please conduct your own research to make informed decisions. Wherever you are listening from, and whatever time it may be, we hope you are experiencing all the love you deserve for being your awesome self!Happy Listening!Music by Epidemic SoundHigh Drama - Matt LargeFollow us on Instagram:@mauricepaolo_@hershieeCheck out Mau's Youtube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@mauricepaolo#filipino #millennial #tagalog

    EP04 - Filipino Childhood, Punishments & Independence

In this episode, we talk about and compare our Filipino upbringing vs. the Western upbringing we see in Canada. Hershey is a licensed early childhood educator and provides care for young children full-time. Having had a Filipino upbringing and now a licensed childcare professional, one difference she has noticed is how the Filipino upbringing puts emphasis on obedience and punishment while here in Canada, emphasis is on independence and self expression. In the latter part of the episode, we share a personal story that still haunts us from childhood (possibly due to trauma). If you grew up in the Philippines, you probably had a similar experience. An experience shared by many Filipinos around the world that most of us probably just laugh and joke about now. But honestly... we may need to go to therapy! Jokes aside, wherever you are in the world listening to this podcast, thank you for your support and we hope you have a good day/week!Happy Listening!#filipino #millennial #tagalog

Moving-in with your spouse, wife, husband, partner, boyfriend, girlfriend, roommate, etc., the list goes on, is one of the most important decisions we make as adults. Happy Listening!

EP02 - Ano ang Bagay na Hindi mo Kakasawaan?

So ano nga ba? So what is it? In the many things we can do in the world, surely, there are many that we'll get sick of doing. But just because someone gets sick of doing something, doesn't mean others will too. In this episode we share a little bit more about ourselves and discuss one thing that we will probably never get tired of doing over and over again. We hope you enjoyed listening to our conversation, and a question we have for you to reflect on is, "what is something you will never get tired of doing over and over again?" EP01 - Welcome to our podcast

Our pilot episode! This episode was recorded in late January and we were holding off on actually launching this mini project. In this episode, we first discuss our zodiac signs according to the Lunar calendar. She's sign is a pig, and Mau's sign is a dog. We don't know about you, but for us, our zodiac signs definitely reflects us. What's your sign?In the latter part of the episode, we reflect on a personal learning that has changed our mindset and outlook on life as Filipino-Canadian millennials in Canada. The concept of effective communication is something that we believe to be lacking in the Filipino culture as there is a tendency for Filipinos to downplay serious topics or avoid them at all.Through the years, She has learned the importance of being a good listener to those around her. Although she can not relate to all of her peer's experiences, having an open ear helps her understand and sympathize with them. On the other hand, Mau has learned the importance of speaking up for oneself in the workplace to express concerns and set boundaries to foster respect. We hope you enjoyed listening to our conversation, and a question we have for you to reflect on is, "what is something that took you a long time to learn or understand?" Let us know in the comments!Happy listening!
