Pride Month Special: When "Love Thy Neighbor" Feels Like a Tall Order in a Time of Polarization

In this episode, Irene, Host of This Mindful Muse, A Podcast, will share her step-by-step thought process for building empathy in a time of polarization. Major Takeaways: As queer individuals and allies, it's more important than ever to be seen, heard, and valued. The Law of One teaches us that everyone is connected, even those who cannot feel love for us. The Law of Polarity reveals the light and dark in each of us.  Learning to be nonjudgmentally curious about your own programming frees you from being a victim of it. Learning to be nonjudgmentally curious about the programming of others helps us to build empathy. What is unfamiliar feels unsafe, what feels unsafe becomes threatening, what feels threatening becomes fear, and from fear grows hate. When someone behaves hatefully, take note of the fear and question their learned behaviors and beliefs. Those who behave in hateful ways are limiting themselves by avoiding connection with so many in their human family. Holding empathy for others does not mean we have to accept hateful behavior. Being your authentic self and taking up energetic space is giving someone else permission to be their authentic selves. Give yourself permission to take up space, let someone know you value their uniqueness, practice being the love, and attempt to hold empathy for those who choose not to demonstrate loving behavior.

Pet at the Vet Mindset Shift and the Law of Relativity

Irene, host of This Mindful Muse, A Podcast, discusses her "Pet at the Vet Mindset Shift" in relation to the Law of Relativity. Major Takeaways: As a co-creator in the Universe, you get to assign meaning to every single situation you experience. This can come up in the moment, change over time, or occur upon reflection. The Law of Relativity is the idea that everything is relative, and events or circumstances can mean something different from each unique perspective. Your individualized perspective is the "frame through which you view the world" and may be shaped by your identity, life experiences, and beliefs. There is no right or wrong way to view the world, and each person's perspective is valid. Once you identify the elements of your frame, you are able to release any elements that no longer serve you. Considering the elements in others' frames allows us to build understanding with those who view the world differently from how we view the world. Obstacles are opportunities for growth. The "Pet at the Vet Mindset" is the idea that in the moment when we are experiencing discomfort, we can feel a bit like a pet at the vet. We may feel scared, in pain, and unsure of why this situation is unfolding. Choosing to trust the Universe in those moments of feeling like a pet at the vet, knowing that there may come a point in the future when you will be able to assign a valuable meaning to the lesson learned, can be empowering while still validating your experience. The concept includes the idea that, from the perspective of the Universe, which has a bird's eye view of your soul progression, that an experience may be "for your own good," despite the momentary discomfort.

Having You Been Feeling Triggered and Are You Afraid of Emotional Regression?

Irene Kuykendall, host of This Mindful Muse, A Podcast, offers perspective on recent triggers and the fears of emotional regression. The Major Takeaways:  Triggers are gifts that allow you to shift your attention to unhealed portions of yourself. Fear of emotional regression is normal. Take time to reflect on how far you have come and to celebrate your success. Know that you are no longer the past version of yourself. Double-check that you have support systems in place. Since you successfully moved through past trauma, you are uniquely qualified to move through whatever lies ahead on your path. Guilt and shame can often lead you to unhelpful beliefs that you are ready to release. Obstacles are opportunities for growth. Growing may bring "growing pains," but you are safe to shift and crystallize into the new version of you. Difficult circumstances aren't just happening to you, but are also happening for you in order to help you develop certain skills for challenges ahead. Although it may feel counterintuitive, allow yourself to feel the uncomfortable feelings. Develop a self-care routine that is unique to who you are and to your individualized needs. You may be experiencing similarities to past trauma to remind you that you have transitioned out of and away from unhealthy situations. Triggers may serve as useful reminders that you are carrying unhealed shadows that need to be seen, heard, understood, thanked, and released.
