The show brings out the guests’ personalities, and personal histories, by mining the connections music has made during their lifetimes. Episode 432 - Lachi
Lachi Music is a New York City-based recording artist, songwriter, touring performer, record producer, author, and disability culture advocate. She grew up in a Nigerian-American home in Ithaca, New York and was born legally blind. She’s now released five albums, including her latest, called Magnificent. It’s a children’s album that invites people of all-ages to embrace difference, and understand neurodiversity and disability as a natural part of human diversity. It features many top artists in the Family Music space, including Lisa Loeb among many others whose names you’d recognize.Song 1: “Doo Wop” by Lauryn Hill...it was the lead single from her debut solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, released in 1998. Episode 431 - Gene Martin
Gene Martin co-hosts the ACMA’s songwriters circle, and he’s leader of a 5 member band called The Floridians…they play clubs, adult day care and rehab centers, retirement homes and hospitals. Audacious is a three time Gracie Award winner - the Gracie Awards recognize exemplary programming created by women, for women and about women in all facets of media and entertainment.She is also the host of Other People's Poems - an event during which people share one poem they love that they didn’t write. Those who have their poems memorized win a loofah.Chion used to produce and host a live storytelling event at the Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford the The Mouth-Off - and a live advice show at Sea Tea Improv's underground comedy theater called Asking for a Friend with Chion Wolf.

Episode 429 - Stella Cole
Stella Cole is a singer who has preformed at Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden, and in 2023, she worked with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, touring the country, as well as Australia and New Zealand.She’s now released two albums independently with Grammy-winning producer Matt Pierson – one called simply “Stella Cole” and the other “Snow!” which featured a duet with Glee TV and Broadway star Darren Criss. Episode 428 - Harold Balink
Harold Balink - known as Chef Harold to many in SWFL - is a chef and restaurateur who has had a considerable influence on the culinary scene in this part of the world for more than three decades. In 2002 he opened Harold’s on the Bay in downtown Fort Myers - then he partnered with the late chef and Fort Myers restaurateur Shannon Yates on Cru in the Bell Tower in South Fort Myers.Then, in 2015, he downsized and personalized by opening Harold’s in South Fort Myers…just 34 seats initially versus the more than 200 at Cru. Harold’s has since expanded considerably, and now his newest venture, a whiskey and wine and live music bar in the Bell Tower called Vybe is up and running. Episode 427 - AR Farina
Anthony Farina is the award-winning author of The Austen Chronicles Series - which he publishes under the moniker A.R. Farina. It’s a modern-day reimagining of Jane Austen’s novels, set in a shared universe, which are published by 4 Horsemen Publications. He’s also the creator, co-editor, and is a contributor to Comic Lit - it’s a collection of essays that delves into the literary merits of comic books and graphic novels while attempting to prove that they are high-art. He’s also published multiple short stories, essays, and reviews in print and online. Most recently, his short story “Flip,” a work of speculative utopian literature was published online at Half and One.Besides all the writing and publishing Tony is also a dean and college professor with both an M.A. in Education and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. David Mayfield is the front man of The David Mayfield Parade. He's played in Cadillac Sky, and alongside The Avett Brothers and Mumford and Sons. David grew up playing bass and touring in a bus with his family’s bluegrass band. He started collecting national awards while still a teen for his dexterity on guitar and mandolin. He has also appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

425 - John McEuen
John McEuen is a banjo, guitar, mandolin, and fiddle player, and a founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. He has made almost 50 albums, that have earned four platinum and five gold records, multiple Grammy Awards and nominations, CMA, and ACM awards. John produced Steve Martin’s 2010 album, The Crow, which won a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album.He was inducted in 2017 to the American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame, and his popular Sirius/XM Acoustic Traveller Show is now in its 14th year.He’s also an author - his bio “The Life I’ve Picked” was published in 2018.

Erica Rhodes is a comedian and actor who began acting as a young child - she actually performed on A Prairie Home Companion beginning at the age of 12 and did that for years - and she was serious about ballet and cello growing up.Her acting credits include Modern Family and Veep. She also voiced the scene-stealing character of “Dotty” in the hit Netflix animated series, A Tale Dark and Grimm. Doug Berman is Executive Producer of Car Talk; and Creator and Benevolent Overlord of Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!A two-time Peabody Award-winning producer, Doug began his career in news while still in college, serving as a production assistant for NPR's All Things Considered and Morning Edition. It was at WBUR that Doug met and became friends with Tom & Ray Magliozzi brothers, who were doing a local call-in show. He produced a pilot for them, and that became the first episode of Car Talk.In the late 90s after Car Talk proved there was an audience for such silliness on NPR, Doug was asked to create another show to pair with Car Talk and so Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! was born. These days he’s Wait Wait’s “Benevolent Overlord.”

Dave Ritter is a founding member of the six-piece Toronto-based, two-time Juno Award winning indie/pop/folk/rock band The Strumbellas. Episode 416 - Jimmy Keys
Jimmy Keys is a Comedian and Musician who's career began in England in the town of Gravesend, doing band stuff with friends around the age of 12. He hit the road to Germany with friends when he was 20, and toured Europe in the early 70s as part of the backing band who played with many top soul artists from the States including Ben E. King, Eddie Floyd and Percy Sledge. Then he had a band that worked extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East which was followed up by gigging on a cruise ship for more than a year. Jimmy has also been the resident manic entertainer at the world famous “Henry VIII Pub” and the main headliner at the Southampton Princess Hotel. Sandra Viktorova is a familiar voice to WGCU listeners and viewers - she joined us here in 2022 on the radio side as a host and then helped launch our TV news magazine program Southwest Florida In Focus as host and senior producer—the show won a regional Emmy in its first year and just recently went from one to five nights a week. Sandra earned a National Edward R. Murrow award for her documentary film, Dream School: A Journey to Higher Ed, which follows the years-long journey of six high school students as they worked to earn a seat at some of America’s top colleges,Sandra has earned three regional Emmys for her work as an investigative and special projects producer with NBC/Telemundo in Miami. Sandra has also produced for several national news and entertainment programs at both Univision and Telemundo. Episode 412 - Robert Green
Robert William Green, Jr. (Mr. Green) graduated high school in Shreveport, Louisiana with a full football scholarship to Morris Brown College in Atlanta. He transferred and received a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master’s degree in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He came to Florida in 2003, and taught 7th grade World Geography at Bonita Springs Middle School before coming to Florida Gulf Coast University in 2005 as Parking Services Representative, and then Welcome Center Representative in 2011. Episode 410 - Laureen Flynn Smith
Laureen is a Billboard-charting songwriter with artist cuts across multiple genres. After graduating from Fort Myers High School, she earned her college degree and a master’s degree before moving to Amish country, where she worked as a Teacher of the Deaf. A prolonged personal health crisis ultimately prompted a pivot toward songwriting, leading her to Nashville. The very first song she wrote in Nashville, co-written with acclaimed artist Cindy Morgan, was recorded by Grammy-nominated, Platinum-selling, and Dove Award-winning group Point of Grace. Since then, her songs have earned international chart recognition, secured placements in television, and helped establish her as a sought after versatile and well respected authentic voice in contemporary songwriting.Laureen’s songs have been recorded by many artists across Pop, Americana, Indie, Country, Bluegrass, and Christian genres—with several landing on global Billboard charts - and her songs have found homes from Los Angeles TV productions to Nashville recording studios—including a release by Olivia Newton-John that she co-wrote with Beth Nielsen Chapman. Episode 409 - Larry Ford
Larry Ford (father of episode 75 guest Seth Ford) is a Grammy winning gospel singer who’s found audiences all over the world because of his truly commanding voice. Originally from Lubbock, Texas, Larry’s work has taken him to 49 of the 50 states -- and to as far away as South Korea and South America. He's also sang the National Anthem for the Boston Red Sox or Tampa Bay Lightning. Larry has attracted a legion of admirers who appreciate his clear, powerful tenor voice and utter sincerity. In 2003, he won a Grammy for Best Southern Gospel Recording. His arrival to the world stage was as a featured soloist on the Gaither Music Homecoming Series, which consistently ranks in the top of Billboard Magazines music charts, and which we heard a song from in Seth’s episode.

Episode 408 - Marlin Miller
Marlin Miller is publisher of Plain Values, a quarterly magazine dedicated to the notion that faith-centered simple living within community is still possible today. Through it, he and his wife Lisa also operate the nonprofit Room to Bloom - they raise money to help families adopt kids with Down Syndrome and special needs. Episode 407 - Matt Ross
Matt Ross is an entrepreneur, author, and media executive. From 1989 to 2005, Matt led some major radio brands, including: New York’s Classic Rock Station, Q104.3 - and and its Hip Hop Station, Hot 97. He then invested in and became CEO of School of Rock. Under his leadership, School of Rock grew from 5 locations to 55.In 2012, Matt founded One River School in Englewood, New Jersey with a mission to “Transform Art Education.” Today, One River School operates fifteen schools in six states with plans for substantial growth in the coming years. He also works to support organizations that build communities for adults with autism, and he’s a champion of artists and arts-based organizations. John Joyce is host of the Solid State Podcast, it’s a weekly program devoted to all things tech. Born and raised in Fort Myers, John founded the computer firm Republic Technologies, while in college, and eventually merged it with CRS Technology Consultants to form one of this region’s largest IT firms which he is now CEO and Co-Owner of.His partnership with the IT Disaster Resource Center brought connectivity back to Southwest Florida after Hurricane Ian, helping first responders access areas and people in need of assistance. Jen Chapin was born and raised in New York in Huntington, Long Island - the daughter of Harry and Sandy Chapin. Over the years has produced a bunch of albums of her own music, including Open Wide, Linger, Ready, and Reckoning. She also put out a tribute album called ReVisions: Songs of Stevie Wonder. Janine is an artist who has worked on The Power of Myth with Bill Moyers and Joseph Campbell, and she did network work for shows including 20/20 and The View and things on PBS. She also produced a 4-hour watercolor course with renowned watercolor artist, Charles Reid.A trip to Italy in high school illuminated her love for travel and experiencing other cultures. While living in Victoria, BC she entered the world of media production and video editing. Andrew Bennett was born and raised in North Carolina, and then during high school, his dad’s job brought the family to Utah, where he attended college at Brigham Young University. He’s a lawyer who has called Southwest Florida home for the past 15 years. He and his wife moved to Naples in 2010 so he could attend law school at Ave Maria School of Law. Charles Monroe-Kane is a Peabody award-winning radio producer who spent 24 years as a senior producer and interviewer for the national public radio show To the Best of Our Knowledge which WGCU aired on Saturday mornings until about a month ago when it ended at least in part due to recent funding cuts across the public radio world.His 2024 audio documentary, “The Spirit of Jim Thorpe,” was awarded first place by the Indigenous Journalists Association and in 2025 he produced the “Climate Narratives” audio documentary series in Greenland.Charles’s 2016 book "Lithium Jesus: A Memoir of Mania" recounts many of his you could say far-out life stories: including being a teenage faith healer, world traveler, smuggler, liberation theologian, ladder-maker, squatter, halibut hanger, grifter, environmental warrior, and circus manager—all the while wrestling with schizophrenia and self-medication. Sheri Castle was the host and producer of the Emmy-winning PBS cooking show The Key Ingredient - for three seasons. She’s also an award-winning professional food writer, recipe developer, and cooking teacher known for melding stories, humor, and culinary expertise. Sheri has authored a tall stack of cookbooks and her writing and recipes appear in a long list of publications, including her role as featured monthly columnist of Our State and Contributing Editor for Southern Living. In 2024, the Southern Foodways Alliance presented Sheri with their prestigious Keeper of the Flame Award given to a “foodways tradition bearer of note”. Rob Kovacs is a multi-award-winning video game composer, pianist, songwriter, and Twitch streamer who bridges the worlds of gaming and music. He’s known online as 88bit, and performs at major gaming events like PAX, MAGFest, and TwitchCon. Episode 390 - Salem Ilese
Salem Ilese is a singer-songwriter who’s probably best known for her singles “Mad at Disney” and “PS5” both of which went viral relatively early on in her career. She’s sung at venues including Outside Lands, The Forum, and The Hollywood Bowl, and has toured multiple times throughout Asia. She’s worked with artists like Demi Lovato, and Gwen Stefani. Salem began her songwriting career at the age of 9 when she started taking classes in San Francisco with Bonnie Hayes who wrote songs for Bonnie Raitt and Cher, among others. Stella Cole is a singer who has preformed at Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden, and in 2023, she worked with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, touring the country, as well as Australia and New Zealand.She’s now released two albums independently with Grammy-winning producer Matt Pierson – one called simply “Stella Cole” and the other “Snow!” which featured a duet with Glee TV and Broadway star Darren Criss. Jason Chapin was a producer on the documentary film “Harry Chapin: When In Doubt, Do Something” which told the story of his father’s musical career and humanitarian work. And he is a producer of the soon-to-be-released “Cat’s in the Cradle 50th Anniversary Celebration” - it’s a film about the Harry Chapin’s #1 hit song that continues to impact countless lives around the world on so many levels. Jason was four when his mom Sandra married singer/songwriter Harry Chapin in 1968. He’s currently Director of Workforce Development at The Westchester County Association. After nearly a decade of teaching in Collier County Public Schools, Zach's passion for the hospitality industry led him to open Ceremony Brewing in in 2021.Growing up, Zach often felt like an outsider. He was raised by a single, working-class dad and they didn’t have the luxuries that people often associate with Naples. And then when he got into punk and metal as a kid that just made him feel even more disconnected from the local culture.
