This tape includes Mrs. Henry Bell discussing her ancestors who founded Waycross, the Daughters/Son of the Confederacy, Girl Scouts, Tebeauville, The land before Downtown Waycross became what it is now, life in early Waycross and so so so much! Mrs. Bell mentions her family line of the Remshart's, who's family members inspired all the current Downtown street names we have today! This personally is one of my favorites tapes I have heard so far, from her tone of voice to the way she explains herself. Discovering these tapes at the Waycross Ware-County Library led to a world of first hand information. My adopted grandfather, featured in a pervious episode on moonshining, never knew his dad recorded this tape in collaboration with the Okefenokee Regional Library and WAYX Radio. This was also the first time Mr. Harley Jr. heard his father's voice in 30 years! This tape includes information on the Waycross Boy Scouts, Downtown Waycross, Historic Residential Waycross and more! On the brink of statewide prohibition, Harry Lyles, some claim under the influence of "King Alcohol," murders his wife and infant child with a shotgun, further cementing Waycross and the rest of the Southeast's status of "pro-prohibition.
