'OLD WARDROBE’ mixtapes September 2006 was beautiful - the temperature was still high enough to open a window and autumn was still shimmering with all the colours of the rainbow when the idea popped into JSM's Rootskontrolla head to start recording periodically short 'mixtapes' with 10-20 of his favourite tunes at the time. We were getting ready to fire up the first version of our soundsystem, so in a room on the first floor of a block of flats on the southern outskirts of Warsaw, the conditions were perfect (hehe) to fire up the recording in the evening after work and rummage through the collection. First listenings, testing Jah Tubbys new at the time 3way preamp, which arrived in hand luggage straight from north London, and selection that slowly crystallised the Roots Revival Soundsystem selection. After a couple of recordings and sharing them on local online discussion site, the topic developed to the point where other selectors and vinyl collectors started to post if they could record a short set. Over time, mixes from various friendly selectors arrived - and so the series called ‘Old Wardrobe.' And so we present to you another series of mixes from the past, which will regularly appear on our channels! As well as Roots Revival flying into space soon, we also occasionally travel back in time and do a little digging here and there. More music! More love

This time in our Dub Plate Series a real heavyweight sound system monster. Voiced by very talented Rhea out of Copenhagen Denmark and originally released on Danish Dub vol 1 earlier this year in a different version produced by Almost HiFi. Here we present a powerful remix version composed and mixed by one and only Violinbwoy. Played by few chosen sounds for the past couple years and demanded by many for an official release it is now available on a limited polyvinyl. Don’t dilly dally on this one as it will fly out quick. 80 copies available. Late night vibes incoming! Originally the Rhea wrote the song based on a riddim from Ital Mick but she never went to the studio or finished the song. When the Danish dub community started growing almost a decade later, she revisited the song with almost hi-fi in 2016 and in 2017 the final vocals where recorded. And then it has been a Dubplate thing shared with a couple of sounds until it came out :-)

Then it reached Berlin and got some jazzy trumpet treatment from Vale. Fast forward good couple of years (you know due to what) and its out here with universal Prince Far I, Nazamba vibes. Trevor Roots aka Bevi is a Manchester born Jamaican Artiste who's career dates back to the 80's. Trevor was a part of a vocal group Hippie & Bevi as well as worked as an MC on Manchesters very own Sound System - Mega Tone. Nucleus Roots relationship started with Trevor Roots around a decade ago when Paul Lush started playing session guitar for his Bob Marley tribute act (Trevor Roots & the Buffalo Soldiers). The eleven-man roots reggae ensemble from Copenhagen - Guiding Star Orchestra is set to release their second LP "Communion" on May 5th, a follow up to their super strong debut double LP, “Natural Heights” an album that was sitting on the shelf for 6 years and then finally saw the light of day in November of 2022. Since the band took shape in 2016, the musical collective's tunes have been played all over the world by fans, sound systems and DJ’s alike. The overarching, wordless theme of the hard-hitting, horn driven, organic music is a longing for a bet- ter, more fair world and the music is designed to aid this development. Guiding Star Orchestra is an instrumental roots reggae band with a full horn section and clear dub elements. Here, the hard and meditative beats of the bass and drum section are blended with the melodic phrases of the horns, which are in turn supported by the pulsating expressions of the guitar and keys, which are finally taken to cosmic heights with the effects of the live engineering. Together, this constitutes Guiding Star Orchestra's distinctive sound, a sound that is strongly inspired by the roots of the 70s and early 80s, but which the band has also taken towards the future, forming the 8 track LP “Communion”.

Guiding Star Orchestra is a collective of musicians from Copenhagen area in Denmark. The vision manifested itself with a small group of musicians (including some well known Danish jazz players) inspired by the spirit of original roots reggae music and their dream of gathering all the musicians needed to record songs live and direct simultaneously in the studio. The album was recorded in 2016 over a period of 8 days completely without use of digital technology. When you record without possibility of post-editing and cutting, you have to focus on the most important thing - which is the vibe. This has been philosophy of all recording sessions thus far and in the future. This album contains 12 instrumental, heavily jazz influenced roots reggae riddims with full horn section backed with dub versions.
