Born on October 21, 1964, Sandra was the youngest of five siblings and known as the bold one of the family. She was beautiful, independent, and the kind of person you could always count on. If someone needed help, Sandra showed up, no questions asked. She had a generous heart, a strong personality, and big dreams of becoming a hairdresser, following in her sisters’ footsteps. At the time of her death, she was already working toward that future in nearby Blytheville. In the early morning hours of September 30, 1986, Sandra’s sister received a call that their parents’ home was on fire. When firefighters arrived, they found the house engulfed in flames. Inside, in a bedroom, they discovered Sandra. What first appeared to be a tragic fire quickly turned into a horrific crime scene.Sandra had been shot four times and stabbed dozens of times, a level of violence investigators described as overkill, suggesting the attack was deeply personal. Authorities believe the fire was intentionally set to destroy evidence and cover up the murder. Sandra had been home alone. There were no immediate signs of a break-in, and investigators quickly began to suspect that she likely knew her killer. The investigation was massive for a town of its size. More than 700 people were interviewed. Rumors spread. Suspicion grew. But despite the effort, no arrests were ever made. Nearly four decades later, Sandra’s case remains unsolved. Her family has never stopped searching for answers. Investigators have consistently maintained that this was not a random act of violence. Someone out there knows what happened that night. Sandra was only 21. She was just getting started in life, building a career, surrounded by family, and stepping into her future. That future was stolen. If you have any information about the murder of Sandra Alberda, you are encouraged to contact the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office at 870-933-4551.Connect With Us:• Instagram: @TrueCrimeUnwind• TikTok: @TrueCrimeUnwind• Facebook @TrueCrimeUnwindSupport the Show:• Rate & review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify• Share with fellow true crime fans• Tag us while you listen and let us know your theories!

Episode 46: MYSTERIOUS DEATH: Terron Evans Jr. - Potsdam, NYA mother and son advocating for justice and equality, a small town that is anything but diverse, and a young activist found dead in the home of two police informants. What really happened to Terron Evans, Jr.?Episode SummaryTerron Evans, Jr. was born on February 24, 1994, and was deeply loved by his family and community. In the summer of 2020, Terron moved from Syracuse to Potsdam, New York, to live with his mother, Jennifer, and support her activism during a time of heightened racial tension and scrutiny of law enforcement in the North Country. Jennifer Baxtron was organizing protests, founding the local Black Lives Matter chapter, and publicly challenging law enforcement and prosecutors over cases such as Garrett Phillips, Nick Hillary, and Treyanna Summerville. Just days before Terron’s death, she again spoke out about police leadership and the need for reform. On January 8, 2021, police responded to a 911 call from the home of Terron’s on-again, off-again girlfriend. Terron was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was ruled a Wellbutrin overdose despite no pill bottles being found, no residue or vomit present, and toxicology results that do not clearly support ingestion. The 911 call has never been released, and four of the five responding officers’ body camera videos remain withheld. FOIA records also show police activity logged hours before Terron was officially discovered. The woman Terron was staying with, who had previously threatened to kill him, and her adult son were later revealed to be police informants. Their statements changed multiple times and focused heavily on portraying Terron as mentally unstable. Investigators did not address key contradictions, and the case was quickly closed.Terron did not use drugs and remained close with his family while building his future. SERIAL KILLER: Pamela Maurer - Woodbridge, IL

Episode 46: SERIAL KILLER: Pamela Maurer - Woodbridge, ILA teenage girl on a short errand, a body tossed along a suburban road, and a mystery that went unsolved for four decades. How did DNA finally unmask Pamela Maurer’s killer – and are there more victims still waiting to be heard?Episode SummaryPamela Maurer, a 16‑year‑old junior at Downers Grove South High School in Woodridge, Illinois, left a friend’s house around 9:30 p.m. on January 12, 1976, to get a soda from McDonald’s. When she didn’t return, her parents notified the police. Road workers found her body the next morning near College Road and Maple Avenue. An autopsy showed she had been sexually assaulted and strangled, and investigators suspected a rubber hose found near her was the ligature.Investigators preserved DNA evidence but had no leads. In 2001, they created a DNA profile that yielded no match. The case stayed cold until 2019, when DuPage County detectives used genetic genealogy to build a family tree from the crime‑scene DNA. They identified Bruce Lindahl as the killer. He had died in 1981 after severing his femoral artery while stabbing another man, but his exhumed remains matched the preserved evidence. Authorities announced the case was solved in January 2020.Lindahl has been linked to other disappearances, including Debra Colliander and Deborah McCall, and police suspect he may have assaulted multiple young women. Investigators continue to seek information about Lindahl’s other potential victims. MURDERED: Sophi Sullivan - Fort Davis, TX

Episode 40: MURDERED: Sophi Sullivan - Fort Davis, TXIn the remote beauty of West Texas, a beloved teacher and mother was brutally murdered in her own home. What followed was an investigation riddled with delays, missed evidence, and unanswered questions that still haunt Sophi Sullivan’s family years later.Episode SummarySophi Eleanor Sabey Sullivan was born on February 9, 1987, and was known for her gentle spirit, intelligence, and deep love for people and animals. She was a devoted mother, a passionate teacher, and someone whose presence made others feel safe and supported. Friends and family describe Sophi as kind, encouraging, and the person you wanted beside you on your worst days. Sophi and her husband, Danny Sullivan, married in 2009 and shared a son, Keagan. Over time, loved ones say Danny became increasingly possessive, jealous, and controlling. On Thursday, March 15, 2018, Sophi spent the day with a close friend and her son at the 4-H fair. Her friend noticed troubling behavior from Keagan, including language and hostility that felt learned rather than age-appropriate, and the conversation turned to concerns about Danny and Sophi’s safety. Sophi expressed fear about leaving and what Danny might do if he found out. The next day, Sophi stopped responding to calls and texts. Just before 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16, Danny called 911, claiming he had just arrived home and found Sophi dead on the floor, covered in blood. When deputies arrived, they immediately sensed something was wrong. Sophi had been stabbed more than 40 times. Keagan later told investigators that he witnessed the attack and initially described a masked intruder. Sophi’s phone was never recovered. Her rings and watch, sentimental items, were missing from her body. Despite serious red flags, investigators failed to search Danny’s Odessa trailer for months. When it was finally searched, new tenants were already living there. Surveillance footage was reviewed using the wrong timeline, resulting in lost evidence. Danny was arrested and charged with capital murder just days after Sophi’s death. In 2019, the case went to trial, but due to investigative failures, excluded testimony about abuse, and largely circumstantial evidence, the trial ended in a hung jury. If you have any information related to the murder of Sophi Sullivan or relevant details that may help advance this case, please contact local law enforcement or the Jeff Davis County District Attorney’s Office. It was simply who she was.On the night of February 19, 1964, Lucy was last seen alive inside her store on South Litchfield Street. Sometime overnight, someone came to her door. Investigators believe Lucy let them inside. What happened next was violent and fatal. On the morning of February 20, 1964, Lucy was found beaten and strangled inside her store. The building, including her upstairs living quarters, had been thoroughly ransacked. Investigators quickly believed robbery was the motive, fueled by long-standing rumors that Lucy kept cash hidden on the property. No forced entry was reported. No suspects were arrested. The New York State Police took over the investigation, canvassing the neighborhood and processing the scene, but the case stalled almost immediately. No witnesses came forward. No suspect was publicly identified. No charges were ever filed.Lucy’s murder came during a year that would deeply scar Frankfort. Just months later, another violent crime would rock the village, but unlike Lucy’s case, that murder would be solved. Lucy’s never was.More than sixty years later, her case remains open and unsolved. No forensic breakthroughs have been announced. No public suspects have been named. And Lucy Dade Forrester has become one of the oldest unsolved homicide victims in Herkimer County. She was not reckless. She was not involved in a crime. She was a trusted, hardworking woman who believed in helping people, and someone took advantage of that trust.Lucy deserves to be remembered as more than a cold case. She deserves answers. If you have any information related to the murder of Lucy Dade Forrester, no matter how small, old, or uncertain it may seem, please contact:Frankfort Police Department: (315) 894-3594 New York State Police – Troop D (Herkimer County): (315) 366-6000Tips can remain confidential. What really happened to 26-year-old Marquis Martin?Episode SummaryMarquis Martin was born on August 5, 1993, in Monticello, Arkansas. Known as “Mack,” he was described as kind, outgoing, deeply faithful, and someone who went out of his way to make others smile. He was a paraprofessional at Drew Central Elementary School through the Drew County Consortium, supporting special needs children who adored him, and a devoted father to his young son, whom he “cherished with his soul.”On the night of February 9, 2020, Marquis left his shift at McDonald’s with a coworker and was dropped off at a Murphy gas station in Monticello due to car trouble. Surveillance shows Marquis walking away at 9:21 p.m. The coworker later claimed he dropped Marquis off at his home in Wilmar. That was the last confirmed sighting of Marquis alive. When Marquis didn’t show up for work the following days, his mother, Lakisha, attempted to report him missing but was told to wait 48 hours. He was officially reported missing on February 11. That same day, a disturbing Snapchat photo surfaced from the sheriff’s family camper containing a racial slur. The sheriff acknowledged his son posted the image but denied any connection to Marquis. Lakisha firmly believes the image depicts her son. While the photo’s authenticity remains disputed, it added to growing concern and mistrust within the community. On February 12, Lakisha received a ransom-style text message claiming Marquis had been kidnapped and demanding $7,000. Despite turning the message over to law enforcement, Lakisha reports repeated difficulty getting responses or updates. Twenty-seven days after he disappeared, on March 7, 2020, Marquis’s body was found in a creek in Wilmar. The coroner ruled his death a close-range gunshot wound to the back of the head and claimed his body had been in the water for nearly the entire time he was missing, despite reported gunshot residue and blood spatter findings that raised serious questions.Over time, rumors spread rapidly, many of them horrific, while official information remained limited and inconsistent. Episode 24: Azzie Martin – Ashburn, GAA small Southern town, a late-night chicken supper, and a young woman whose disappearance exposed the deep racial divides of 1930s Georgia.Episode SummaryIn this week’s episode of True Crime Unwind, we’re sharing the story of 27-year-old Azzie Martin, a hardworking cook from Ashburn, Georgia, whose mysterious death has haunted the town for nearly nine decades. In December of 1937, Azzie was hired to cook for a “midnight chicken supper” at the Evans House—one of the finest homes in Ashburn. The party was hosted by 26-year-old Ila Mae Hickox and attended by a group of young white men and women from well-known local families. Azzie was the only Black person there that night.By morning, she was gone. Her family reported her missing the next day, insisting she had never made it home. For months, rumors swirled—some said she fell and hit her head, others whispered that something much darker had happened.Three months later, Azzie’s remains were found near the Little River. A coroner’s jury ruled that she died “at the hands of unknown parties,” but no one was ever charged. Despite conflicting testimonies, growing suspicion, and public attention from Black newspapers across the country, the case quietly faded away.Decades later, the story still lingers in Ashburn—alongside whispers of guilt, silence, and even hauntings tied to the old Evans House. Azzie’s grave is unmarked, and her case remains unsolved, but her name continues to be spoken thanks to local historians and community members determined not to let her be forgotten. Azzie’s story isn’t just a mystery—it’s a reminder of how easily justice could be denied in the Jim Crow South, and how the echoes of those failures still matter today. If you have any information about the death of Azzie Martin or family history connected to the case, please contact: The Turner County Project – [email protected] can also visit their website to learn more about Azzie’s story and other documented local histories: www.turnercountyproject.orgConnect With Us:• Instagram: @TrueCrimeUnwind• TikTok: @TrueCrimeUnwind• Facebook @TrueCrimeUnwindSupport the Show:• Rate & review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify• Share with fellow true crime fans• Tag us while you listen and let us know your theories!
