The temple in Kyuktya was destroyed in 1933 and its monks arrested.The village where Tseren lived was 40 kilometers off Astrakhan. To get to Astrakhan, people walked and then took a bus. Kalmyks did not live in Astrakhan itself, but lived in Kalmbazar, which at that time was part of the Privolzhkiy ulus of Kalmyk USSR. Afterwards, Kalmbazar became part of Astrakhan.
