🕰️ Ever feel like you’re busy all day but still don’t get the important stuff done? In our latest podcast, we dive into the sneaky distractions that keep us from achieving greatness! Remember, good is often the enemy of great. What's one thing you could reduce or remove for a more productive 2026?

  16. 38

    Gratefulness Challenge -- year two

Last year I offered a “Gratefulness Challenge” for February, which I hope you'll consider joining me on this year. It's easy to wake up on hard days and cold days or whatever you're going through and immediately gets stuck in what's wrong. It is a little harder to do that if one of your first mental activities of the day is to write down something that you're grateful for.  And since this is year 2 of our challenge, let's write down two things: 1) one related to your job and 2) one that isn’t.  Will you join me? #TwoMinuteMondays

  17. 37

Today is a good day to start ...

Some of us were going to start this year with a new diet … or a new exercise program … or were going to start a year-long Bible read or some other book club … or maybe you decided to take a break from podcasting over the holidays but you are going to resume in January. And then stuff got busy and it didn't happen or the new habit didn’t stick.  Let’s talk about that. #TwoMinuteMondays

  18. 36

Don't forget to pause and look around

The famous philosopher, Ferris Bueller, once said: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." It’s easy to forget to look around when you’re in the midst of something amazing – so, click pause and soak it in.

  19. 35

    Why I love trade shows

I love large-scale, in-person events.  Not for the content but for the people and the opportunities.  Let’s wrap 2024 and talk about the importance and ramifications of connection. #TwoMinuteMondays

  20. 34

No one goes to Las Vegas twice

It’s been said that no one goes to Las Vegas twice – for it is not the same city and they are not the same person.  That’s notthe actual saying, but let’s use it for #TwoMinuteMondays on 30 years of Vegas tradeshows.

  21. 33

Whatever you are not changing … you are choosing

This is showing up more in social media, but I started thinking about it as part of Newtonian Physics – and the Law of Inertia. Are you an object at rest or in motion?  Let’s talk about that on #TwoMinuteMondays

  22. 32

What got you here won’t get you where you want to go

That phrase is usually applied to organizations that started and thrived down one path.  Lately, I’ve been looking in the mirror to remind myself about what got me here and where I want to go … how about you? #TwoMinuteMondays

  23. 31

The difference between Mentors and Coaches

This week, to wrap a three-part series on mentoring – let’s talk about the differences between MENTORS and COACHES. #TwoMinuteMondays

  24. 30

Every mentoring relationship starts with “the ask”

Last week, I had the best phone call.   A work colleague and I were catching up – and at the end, they asked, “Hey, can I get on your recurring calendar?”   It was a request to begin a mentoring relationship.  This #TwoMinuteMondays episode is part 2 of 3 in a series on mentoring.

  25. 29

The best lesson I learned from failing was "Iron Sharpens Iron"

You can learn a lot from failure – if you embrace it – but you often need a lever or catalyst for change.  In my case, the single most impactful book I ever read was “21 Laws of Leadership” by John C. Maxwell.  It was given to me because of a recent failing – and taught me some of the most formative lessons that I still rely on today, including “Iron sharpens Iron.” #TwoMinuteMondays

  26. 28

    The art of introducing someone

I’ve been to 3 conferences – in 3 weeks – on 3 continents – and I learned 2 things:  The power of meeting in person AND the art of introducing someone.  Let’s talk about that on #TwoMinuteMondays.

  27. 27

When traveling, always take an extra day

Here’s the best work advice that I ever got around travel –please take an extra day.  Let’s talk about why on #TwoMinuteMondays

  28. 26

    Social Media & Politics

Last week, we covered “When you argue with the town fool, the town gains a second fool.”  This week, we’ll apply that advice to Social Media and Politics.

  29. 25

When you argue with the town fool, the town gains a second fool

What do Ben Franklin, Abe Lincoln, Mark Twain, two Lions, and me have in common? They all give versions of this same advice.  Check it out on #TwoMinuteMondays

  30. 24

Learning from a caterpillar’s time in the cocoon

Real transformation, unfortunately, often only happens through change or challenge.  Perhaps nothing depicts the magic of transformation like a caterpillar into a butterfly, so there are some lessons we can learn from that time in the cocoon.  Let’s talk about that on #TwoMinuteMondays.

  31. 23

    Perfection is overrated

An old French proverb teaches that perfect is the enemy of good. One of my favorite books talks about the difference between good to great. And I'll just add that “perfect” is overrated.  Let’s talk about why

  32. 22

There will be more work when you get back

This month, I’m back in class for a few days and also taking a few days off. That got me thinking, so I wanted to share some GOOD NEWS: There will always be more work to do.  Over the years, I have missed out on some great classes, vacations, and meetings because I wasn’t fully present in the room … #TwoMinuteMondays

  33. 21

There are no small roles, just big opportunities

Almost every project I lead is through a virtual team that includes new folks because I love mentoring; especially when its helping colleagues gain new experience or perspectives.  Sometimes, those first or second timers get relatively ‘small roles’ … but there are no small roles, just big opportunities.

  34. 20

We judge others by their worst behaviors

This week, I’d like to share a powerful phrase that I’ve sometimes struggled with: “We judge others by their worst behaviors; we judge ourselves by our best intentions” This applies everywhere in life, but let’s talk about it within the workplace

  35. 19

What are you planting beyond the horizon?

There’s a saying that “The two best days to plant a tree are ‘Twenty years ago’ and ‘today’” – meaning, sure, you wish it had happened way back then … but if it didn’t, don’t wait any longer, do it now. Love that, but there’s another tree story that I think we can learn from.

  36. 18

Six tips on being a better apple tree

In my last episode, I suggested that if you are a leader, then you are an apple. Building on that, if you serve others, then you are an apple tree. Here are 6 tips on doing that, starting with – if you are an apple tree, don’t try to make oranges.

  37. 17

If you are a leader, then you are an apple

Think about this: you can count the number of seeds that will come from an apple, but you cannot count the number of apples that will come from one seed. That's what leadership impact looks like.

  38. 16

Win the race to apologize first

Have you ever been in an argument – and you knew that you were right – so all that was necessary was the other person needed to apologize? Yeah … you might have been right … they might have been sorry … but that probably wasn’t how the argument ended. Let’s talk about that.

  39. 15

    Delegation rarely saves time

Delegating expert tasks rarely yields immediate time savings, but it always results in growing others’ expertise and your impact – and that is time well spent. Let’s talk about why.

  40. 14

What are you going to do about it?

Have you noticed that some TwoMinuteMondays videos are closer to 3 minutes? (never over, but close) Admittedly, ‘One-Minute Mondays’ seems too short to be meaningful – but ‘Three-Minute Mondays’ seems too long to try. Let’s talk about what those ‘Two Minutes’ are really supposed to be.

  41. 13

    Roses, Buds, and Thorns

If you’ve ever gotten through a big project/event and wanted to talk about how to do it better, you might have had an “after action” meeting – usually framed around Start, Stop, Continue. There’s a twist on that which I like better. Roses, Buds, and Thorns explores the WHY as well as the WHAT to do differently. Let’s talk about that …

  42. 12

    Innovate as you Iterate

People and organizations often have “core values” that define who they are or want to be – which in turn, ought to drive every other decision you make. One of my core values lines up with what my employer calls “Innovate and Iterate.” Let’s talk about how that works.

  43. 11

Repetition (alone) does not make you better – feedback does

Repeated attempts is NOT the only key to improving a skill. In fact, sometimes when folks repeatedly just “do”, they develop – and then the repetition reinforces – bad performance. So, the answer can’t be just “try harder” or "try more often" – the answer is feedback through coaching. Let’s talk about “A Tale of Two Speakers.”

  44. 10

Never stop learning ... Invest in you

Never Stop Learning! This week, I'm completing an education experience, so let me reflect on where education fits within an IT career. After 35 years in technology, I’d argue your fast track as an IT Professional probably has a lot more to do with certifications than anything else. Some may argue that – but certifications unlock at least three massive accelerants to your IT career.

  45. 9

    Take Care of the Caretakers

Lately I’ve been watching folks taking on some heavy personal responsibilities, becoming caretakers for an elderly or other family member. They’re doing an amazing job of taking care of what needs to be done – in fact, they are taking care of everything … except sometimes themselves. Here are some ideas to hopefully help.

  46. 8

    Four Mondays and Two Fridays

I used to tell folks that “I can handle four Mondays and a Friday … but I can’t do five Mondays.” So, how do you protect your Fridays? Start by protecting your Saturdays. Here’s what I am doing.

  47. 7

It is okay to 'Care too much'

If you’ve been frustrated at feeling unheard or being too passionate in your advocacy, here’s some ideas on finding balance between your passion and finding harmony with others.

  48. 6

Be the one who asks HAW YEE

A lot of folks are struggling with a lot of stuff – here’s some ideas for doing a buddy check.

  49. 5

Start your day by naming one thing you are grateful for ...

If you want to have a better day, start it by naming something (anything) that you are grateful for. Here's a 'Gratefulness Challenge' to consider for next month. ps, Thank you for watching!

  50. 4

I have Imposter Syndrome ... here's how I get out of my own way

It’s okay to be anxious, but don’t let your doubts impede your potential. Otherwise, you become self-defeating. • Prove your doubts wrong • Prove your doubters (haters) wrong • Prove those who had faith in you, right
