    78. Obedience: When Waiting Becomes the Greater Response

Rebecca Pratt and Deb Baliko were asked by a listener, “Can you share a story, from working in Africa, where the Lord asked you to be obedient and it bared fruit?”Rebecca recounts a deeply moving encounter with a severely malnourished eight-month-old baby weighing just 4.7 pounds. Faced with the urgent instinct to intervene directly, she instead chose to follow what she believed was God’s prompting. That decision set off a chain of events—through local staff and consistent medical care—that not only saved a life but sparked a broader cultural shift. Mothers in the community began learning how to properly nourish their children, leading to lasting impact beyond a single child.Deb reflects on her own experiences preaching in West Africa, emphasizing the importance of listening to God’s voice and acting in obedience—even when it doesn’t align with instinct or logic. She also speaks to the power of personal testimony in ministry, and how sharing lived experiences can open hearts and bring hope.Sometimes the most impactful response isn’t immediate action—but faithful obedience that allows a greater solution to unfold.Learn More and Get Involved:Inspired to Action: How Following the Promptings of Your Heart Can Change the World by: Rebecca M. Summary:In this episode, we explore how investing in children today creates a ripple effect of transformation for tomorrow. Orphan Relief and Rescue (ORR) has watched children grow up in our safe homes and go on to achieve remarkable success — and now, they’re giving back. One graduate, now a top medical school alumna working in a hospital, will be partnering with ORR to provide monthly medical clinics for one of Freedom Centers. Another, a business graduate, is leading the development of our Savings and Loan program to help families build sustainable livelihoods. As Rebecca shares insights from Proverbs 22:6, we’re reminded to be present and champion those who may have little — because when we invest in children, we plant seeds that produce lasting hope and change. How to Connect or Learn More?Would you consider becoming a monthly donor and enjoying the Ignite Community? Summary:Chad first went to Africa chasing an ex-fiancé but instead discovered Orphan Relief and Rescue (ORR), where he became deeply moved by the devastation and orphan crisis following Liberia’s civil war. During his 3.5-month stay, he joined rescue missions, met the founders, and realized that while he wasn’t called to live in Africa, he was meant to be a voice and supporter for the children there. Upon returning home, he rallied friends to raise $50,000 for ORR, beginning a long journey of advocacy and fundraising since 2007. Chad is especially passionate about ORR’s Savings and Loan Program, which empowers locals to start sustainable businesses, restoring dignity and hope. 46. Part 2 – Healing Through Legacy: How the Christopher Freedom Center Brings New Life

This episode continues the story of the Christopher Freedom Center through the eyes of Christopher’s sister, Michelle Toukan. Visiting the building for the first time brought both release and restoration through her journey of grief and healing—transforming the memories she shared with her brother into a living, breathing space that now carries her brother’s legacy. The Center stands as a testimony that Christ is still redeeming lives through her brother’s story. She shares how this moment tied into her lifelong pursuit of athletics, shaped by memories of watching the Olympics with her brother. The discipline and drive to make each day count for Christ is deeply rooted in their bond, and the Freedom Center gave her a renewed sense of purpose. Instead of needing to achieve the Olympic dream for her brother’s life to matter, she realized the opportunities to serve and make an impact are already all around her. Because of her brother’s life, the Freedom Center now stands as a legacy of freedom, service, and joy—embodying all that he represented.Throughout her time at the Center, she experienced profound moments of connection and hope—encounters that transcended language and culture and reminded her that grief is a universal language. In these interactions, she felt the weight of loss lift and was given new light to live with the assurance of reunion in heaven with her brother and the people of West Africa. How to Connect or Learn More?Would you consider becoming a monthly donor and enjoying the Ignite Community? After talking with Rebecca, he chose instead to “give Jesus a shot.” Whether in West Africa or in a car ride across town, hope and rescue are breaking through in powerful ways.At this fundraiser dinner, Rebecca and Deb share urgent updates from West Africa where 640 children in our Anti-Trafficking Program are preparing to return to school this October. Right now, only half are funded—leaving 268 children still waiting for safety, meals, and the chance to sit in a classroom. We’re seeking to raise $160,800 to meet this need. 42. Brave Hearts, Bold Worship

Summary:Rebecca reflected on a powerful post-trip experience where God gave her deep compassion and insight for the people they were ministering to. Ushering in the presence of Jesus through worship was the strategy for setting people free from bondage. Many were trapped in fear that leaving their idols would bring harm or remove protection from their families—the best way to combat fear is through worship. Even her bodyguard saw angels and joined in worship as a weapon against spiritual darkness. She honored mothers who had courageously brought their children back from trafficking, celebrating their strength and love. These children would not be standing before her if it wasn’t for Orphan Relief and Rescue. Finally, she spoke from her heart using practical illustrations to show God’s saving power and personal love for each of them. 41. After 13 Years of Prayer: An Answer Beyond Expectation

For 13 years, our Country Director has faithfully prayed for this community—and those prayers are being answered.Through practical help like savings groups, school programs, and feeding initiatives, we’ve seen progress. But without the love of Jesus, there is no lasting change. Recently, 900 people came to a community meeting where—for the first time—the gospel was shared in a way they could truly understand: through simple stories and personal testimonies. Nearly everyone responded, saying they wanted to follow Jesus.Hearts, lives, and entire lifestyles are being transformed. Lies are being exposed, freedom is being found, and light is replacing darkness. Our bodyguard even had a vision of angels covering the gathering as protection—God’s presence was undeniable. This is the fruit of 13 years of prayer, faith, and perseverance. 39. The Boy With No Name

In this episode, two powerful stories highlight Orphan Relief and Rescue’s commitment to restoring dignity and hope to vulnerable children. The stories highlight two core themes: 1) God Gives us identity and purpose 2) Healing and transformation happen in the context of love and belonging.1.    Daniel’s Story:A boy suffering from seizures and unable to speak was rejected and beaten by his community, who believed he was demon-possessed. The Social Welfare Department asked ORR to intervene. ORR’s Country Director and his wife took the boy into foster care, naming him Daniel. Just six weeks later, Daniel began to speak—marking the beginning of his healing journey. The story emphasizes that knowing our identity and value in God changes everything.2.    The Baby Girl:While talking with local women about child trafficking, Rebecca encountered a critically underweight baby girl (4.7 lbs at 8 months old). Although tempted to rush her to the hospital, Rebecca felt prompted to find a different way—one that empowered the community rather than creating dependency. This moment revealed how God can move supernaturally through natural decisions when we truly listen. Summary:In a tragic case of exploitation, a woman trafficked 25 children from a rural village under the false promise of feeding and schooling them. To the parents, it seemed like a solution to poverty, but for the woman, it was purely a business opportunity. The children endured harsh labor, beatings, and neglect while she waited for social media donations to come through. This situation reflects a deeper issue: without a relationship with God or an understanding of the value He places on life, people can become blind to the worth of others. True wisdom and compassion come from God, and His Spirit gives us the ability to see and love others rightly. Proverbs 8 reminds us that wisdom brings life and favor—something deeply lacking in this heartbreaking scenario. How to Connect or Learn More?Orphan Relief and Rescue: orphanreliefandrescue.orgRebecca M. 33. Restoring Safety and Freedom_Trip Recap Part 2

Go into the audience and there is a child that grabs my attention. God rips my heart apart for the life of the child in front of me.A young girl abandoned by her mother, was left to care for her 7-month-old brother while enduring abuse and harsh treatment from her aunt. She was forced to handle household chores, care for her cousins, and faced neglect and hunger. Orphan Relief and Rescue intervened, enrolling her in their program to ensure her safety while investigating her situation and searching for her mother. This case is part of a broader mission, including past rescues that have freed children from abuse and trafficking, impacting dozens of lives. Thanks to the organization’s efforts, Rose is now on the path to safety and protection.Confession in community brings freedom by breaking the power of sin when it’s brought into the light. In the area we serve, there’s a struggle between gods, similar to Daniel 6, but chiefs and villagers are seeing that Jesus Christ is victorious. Despite daily curses on our staff, Jesus always prevails.Trip Highlights shared by Chris Wimberly, Lead Pastor of Selah Hills Church in Austin, TX.How to Connect or Learn More?Selah Hills Church: https://selahhillschurch.com/our-teamInspired to Action: How Following the Promptings of Your Heart Can Change the World by: Rebecca M. 31. Prayers that Move Mountains

God calls us to pray for His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Through prayer, we hold incredible power to make an impact. Prayer can change lives, circumstances, and destinies, as evidenced by biblical heroes like Moses, Esther, and Daniel, and by modern testimonies of healings and transformations. A local staff member’s unwavering faith reminded me to pray with expectation, trusting that God answers prayers daily. This challenged me to deepen my faith and believe in God’s ability to work powerfully through prayer. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! John 15:7 (NLT)“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7 (NLT)Questions to ask yourself:·      What is something you know you need to commit to pray for moreconsistently?·      What kind ofreminder each day can you give your- self to pray for that certain thing? How to Connect or Learn More?Inspired to Action: How Following the Promptings of Your Heart Can Change the World by: Rebecca M. 30. Georgene Rice Show Interview

Summary:Rebecca shares how in West Africa, ORR works to protect children at risk of trafficking by providing education, feeding programs, and financial support for families through savings and loan initiatives. A powerful example of this impact is an 8-year-old girl rescued from trafficking who overcame abuse, regained her education, and is now pursuing a baking apprenticeship at 19, aspiring to open her own bakery. Forgiveness and faith play a significant role in the healing process, and we are inspired by older children who now want to protect others from trafficking. For 17 years, we have witnessed God’s work in rescuing, redeeming, and restoring lives, reminding us to focus on His ongoing miracles and maintain a sense of awe for His presence in our world.Guest Host:Georgene Rice has been a talk show host with KPDQ for more than 30 years and has traveled internationally as a station correspondent. In 2003 Georgene served as the chief spokesman and debater for the Defense of Marriage Coalition, which successfully amended Oregon’s constitution. She has lectured on university campuses and is a frequent speaker and worship leader at Christian conferences and retreats. 29. Relieve the Suffering of Others

God wants to use us to relieve the suffering of others. In this week’s episode, Rebecca shares a miraculous story of financial provision for ORR's safe home through a Holocaust survivor who was "paying it forward." She survived the Holocaust by serving in a convent in Switzerland. After the war, she was given a small stipend to begin a new life. Instead of living off the money, she invested it for the purpose of protecting others. Years later ORR was the beneficiary of her generosity.Acts of compassion not only bless others but also bring spiritual fulfillment and peace as highlighted in in Isaiah  58:10-11.How to Connect or Learn More?Random Acts of Kindness: https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/Inspired to Action: How Following the Promptings of Your Heart Can Change the World by: Rebecca M.
