    Mindset | #10

Earl Nightingale once said the following “We all come from different backgrounds – some rich, some poor, some middle class, but the beauty about our mind is that we can re-program it like a computer.” In this episode we talk about the fact that regardless of where you come from, it is possible for you to program your mind in a way that leads you to what you desire. Presently, we all have access to the tools and resources needed to re-program our mind to achieve success. These tools are Youtube and Books, among other things. Back in the day it was much more difficult for the poor and middle class to re-shape their mindset to think like the wealthy. We discuss how each of our individual mindsets were shaped. We talk about topics such as financial freedom, keeping an open mind, and our goals both past and present. Follow the show on Instagram @wealthispossible

The Game of Credit | #9

Ever wondered how the credit card companies think? What is the correct way to use your credit card? What is the incorrect way? We discuss all this and more on today’s episode. MIT did a study on brain activity during credit card use vs. cash/debit. We get into the results of that study and what that means. We break down how interest on credit cards is calculated and of course talk about our own experiences with credit cards and interest. No one really addresses the elephant in the room that is credit card debt. Meanwhile, many people struggle with it and are too embarrassed to fix their situation before it’s too late. It's important to understand how it works and what the credit company wants you to do so they can profit. You need to do the opposite of what they want you to do in order to win at the game of credit. Credit Card companies want you to be a revolver (carry a balance on credit card) but ideally you want to be a transactor (pay your balance in full every month).  At the end of the day, businesses like Visa and Capital One have a primary goal and that is to make money off your behaviour. People who have learned from experience or have been educated on how the credit card system works, never carry a balance and therefore never pay interest. This episode was inspired by the second episode (‘Credit Cards’) in the Netflix Documentary series called Money Explained. Explaining ETFs | #8

Vanguard was founded by Jack Bogle in 1975. Jack Bogle has been credited with creating the first index fund that was available to individual investors. He was also a big proponent of enabling low-cost investing for individuals. The mission of Vanguard has always been to put the investor first, innovating for the investor and not themselves, while keeping costs as low as possible. Vanguard does not have a private nor public owner and so they have no one to serve but the shareholder. The typical mutual fund system as described by Jack Bogle, started with an entrepreneur created a company that forms mutual funds, and that company runs the fund and gets paid for it. That is the way any company starts – it’s the conventional way. However, the difference in the mutual fund industry is that “when that little baby (fund) grows up and doesn’t need all that parental care (Management Fee) anymore, they still have that parent watching over them and taking money away”.  Some mutual funds are over 100 years old and in principle the “child matures, grows up and goes off on its own – and Vanguard recognizes that”. Vanguard saves the investor about 1% a year in fees. This is the difference between getting 30$ (7%) for every dollar invested and 10$ (5%) for every dollar invested, over the course of 30 years. The index fund saves you money period. In this episode we discuss a great analogy of how ETFs work and the purpose they serve. For the 100th time since the inception of this podcast, we discuss VFV.TO – aka the Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund for Canadians. Also, we go through a twitter thread on how Fashion Nova was built – completely unrelated, but still interesting. We hope this episode provided you some value or at least pointed you in the right direction. Follow the show on Instagram @wealthispossible

    Bitcoin Obituaries | #7

Ethereum was crowd-funded in 2014 and launched publicly in July of 2015.  What is the difference between Bitcoin and Ethereum? We discuss bitcoin obituaries, also known as the various headlines over the last few years that described Bitcoin as being dead or a scam. As is the theme of many episodes, we stress the importance of doing your own research. This episode wraps up with a discussion on how the world works in terms of information that is distributed to the public. Why do headlines always seem to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt? Prior to the internet, it may have been difficult to get alternate sources of information, besides the news. Presently, big names in the world of Finance such as Kevin O'Leary have come out and voiced their opinions on the merits of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies. Kevin O'Leary has publicly disclosed that 5% of his net worth is in Bitcoin (his net worth is in the 100s of millions). Follow the podcast on Instagram & Youtube @wealthispossible

    NBA Top Shot | #5

How do you make money on NBA Top Shot? We discuss the 5 main ways to make money on the platform. NBA Top Shot is an NFT marketplace for NBA fans to buy, sell or trade NBA moments. Moments are essentially highlights of specific players and are limited to a specific serial number. NBA Top Shot moments are the modern version of collecting basketball cards. We live in an age of instant gratification and Top Shot has designed their product taking that into account. Sales on the platform can be both listed and completed within minutes. The traditional method of investing in basketball cards involves buying physical packs or individual cards from a marketplace, getting the good ones graded, and then finally re-selling for profit at some time in the future. This process could include paying for shipping costs 4 different times (for optimal profit). Gary Vaynerchuck was one of the first big names talking about the platform. Currently, there are many celebrities on the platform who own moments, including NBA players. Since launching in fall of 2020, Top Shot has added many new features and ways to interact with the platform. We discuss the many features, including how to purchase a moment. Real Talk About Real Estate | #4

What are the benefits of investing in or purchasing Real Estate? If we are purchasing a home to live in, we build equity in our home over time and can leverage that equity using a HELOC in the future to purchase a second property. If we are buying an investment property for the purposes of rental income, we reap the benefits of having our tenant pay down our mortgage, potential cash-flow from the property, tax write-offs from the interest payments, and more. In this episode we discuss all things real estate, from single-family houses to condos to multi-family real estate and even commercial real estate. We talk about the Toronto (and surrounding) Real Estate market and also go over some strategies such as House-Hacking and Airbnb arbitrage. Follow the show on Instagram @wealthispossible

    Investment Risk Tolerance | #3

Do you wish you had bought Amazon stock for $300USD in 2015? Just 7 years later you’d have 10 times your money. In this episode, we explore the risks and rewards of what it means to be a long-term investor. We talk about the ups and downs that are commonplace in the stock market.  Why is risk tolerance never discussed when speaking to beginner investors these days? Most people shy away from the market because they lack understanding and in general, we fear what we don’t understand. However, in the social media age we live in, ‘finfluencers’ generally are after views and don’t really stop to think about their impact on beginner investors. Your risk tolerance is comprised of your time horizon and income stability. A solid understanding of your risk tolerance in combination with a long-term mindset, can really set you up for success while giving you peace of mind. Future episodes will go into more detail, but we outline that both individual stocks and index funds exist, both for opposite ends of the risk tolerance spectrum. This episode features many great insights into the market that come from Morgan Housel’s book, Psychology of Money. Follow the show on Instagram @wealthispossible

Market Cap is the only cap | #2

In this episode we start off with a quick discussion on NFTs, the metaverse and venture capital investments. We get into the process of buying an NFT and talk about the utility of NFTs now and in the future. Vinth talks about his experience stumbling upon an NFT project that aimed to capitalize on the recent success of the blue-chip project “Bored Ape Yacht Club” or BAYC. Believe it or not we find a way to relate Hero Bread (which is something Tom Brady invested in) to the utility of NFTs. All three of us share our individual stock market investing journeys with the audience. We started out being dividend focused but soon realized, at our age growth is the way to go. Vinth goes over what he generally looks for before investing in a company and we talk about why it’s important to invest. We talk about the reality of saving up for a down payment in the GTA. Today’s rate of inflation makes saving your way to a down payment like trying to climb up an escalator that’s going down twice as fast. Imagine if everyone put the same energy into learning to invest as they did when they studied for their midterms and finals during undergrad. Instead, many people nowadays who are new to the stock market treat it like a casino and throw their money way. It’s important to learn about how the machine that is “the stock market” works and functions and that is what we get more into in Episode #3. In the meantime, we talk about the top 20 most valuable public companies in both Canada and the United States. These companies are valued according to market capitalization or market cap for short. We go on to talk about some lessons from Morgan Housel’s book Psychology of Money and explain how market cap relates to stock price. Follow the show on Youtube and Instagram @wealthispossible

In this episode we introduce ourselves and talk about why we started this podcast. The three of us had been meeting up over the last couple of years to talk about getting into the multi-family real estate market. Entry into this market requires a significant amount of capital among other things. This realization took us down the avenue of constantly discussing ways of making money and investing that earned income. Real Estate is one of the main wealth building tools and is especially effective where we live. We live within the Greater Toronto Area and although this asset-class provides consistent returns for investors already in the market, it does come with a significant barrier to entry. A large down payment is required for admission into the real estate market in the GTA. We are fully aware that this is no easy task, especially with student loans, toxic debt, and a high cost of living. Coming up with a down payment for a home is in fact possible, regardless of how much income you make today. It involves following some of the money principles that the wealthy follow, which include the 40 percent rule for investments, the 10 percent rule for car payments, increasing your streams of income and most importantly, living below your means. The bigger the gap between your income and your expenses, the more wealth you can create. We talk about setting financial goals and why that’s one of the most important things on this journey. The three of us have our own side hustles that we do to supplement our main streams of income, including Uber, Turo and Ebay. Having said all that, the main focus of this podcast is investment and throughout future episodes we go into detail on the Stock Market (Vinth), Cryptocurrency (Vino) and Real Estate (Heaven). We talk about a Grant Cardone video that Vinth watched which featured the likes of Kevin O’Leary and Dr. Jordan B. Peterson. Heaven talks about what he took away from reading Think and Grow Rich. Other books mentioned include Rich Dad Poor Dad and the Value of Simple.  Follow the show on Instagram @wealthispossible
